How Long Before Disney Starts Charging Infants?

Right now there is no fee for children under age 3 to enter the parks or eat at the restaurants. Disney gets ancillary business from stroller and crib rentals (to say nothing of what the parents pay), but I have to believe this is another "loophole" they would like to close. Especially as infants make up a larger % of park guests than they use to.

Would a $15 or $20/day flat fee for admission or $5 per character meal really deter people from taking their babies to Disney? How much money would Disney really gain from doing so?

It used to be free to have your mouse ears embroidered at the gift shops. There wasn't a surcharge on one-day tickets for MK compared to other parks. It used to be free to park your car at your resort. The trend is finding new ways to generate revenue, and I have to believe this is one of the bigger "untapped markets".

I can't see them charging for infants (considering they sleep most of the time and aren't really consuming the food at any restaurant or going on many rides). I could see them lowering the age to 2. They could easily Fall back on the "industry standard" baloney because the airlines' magic number is 2 before they start charging.

This implies that that they charge for things because they have to offset the cost of something which often isn't the case, they just charge for things because they can. If they thought they could charge for infants and it would help them financially more then it would hurt them in dollars or bad PR, they would do it.

Ive heard rumors of an upcharge if you conceive a child on property.
Future check ins at a Moderate Resort might go something like this;
CM. Good morning sir. And what can we do for you this Magical day?
Guest. Good morning. I have reservations. The name is Smedley. Jebedia Smedley.
CM. Yes Mr Smedley. We have your reservation right here. And is your significant other here with you.
Guest. Why yes. My Wife’s browsing in the gift shop while I check in.
CM. Alright Mr Smedley I have you all set. You have a Preferred room with a lovely view of the Lagoon.
Guest. Thanks. That’s exactly what My Wife was hoping for. She says looking out on the water is romantic.
CM. Romantic? Ummm…… Of course. Uh Mr. Smedley. Are you aware of the Romance Fee that we charge our guests? It was mentioned on page 35 of our "Terms of Usage" agreement that you approved when you made your reservations.
Guest. Romance Fee???
CM. Yes Sir. We at WDW believe that guests should pay an upcharge for engaging in romantic activity while on our property. After all we are providing the opportunity for people to become intimate in our lovely setting.
Guest. But we’re not here to-------
CM. Sir would you like the single time package or will you be getting intimate more than once during your stay? If so we have a multiple experience package.
Guest. What if we don't get intimate while we're here?
CM. That's up to you Sir but we levy the charges to everyone whether they become intimate or not. And you should be glad that you're not staying at a Deluxe Resort. The fee there is twice what it is here.
Guest. This sounds like a money grabbing scheme to me.
CM. We’re just bringing our facilities up to industry standards Sir.
Guest. Who’s industry standards.
CM. Why, whatever industry standards our Management decides they can charge for of course.

I have a question for all of you posters who are completely disillusioned with Disney and the decisions they are making when it comes to the parks: does it really help the situation or make you feel better when you are posting on here over and over how mad or upset you are and how you are not going to have anything to do with WDW any more? Say it once, and then get away from everything associated with WDW, including this forum. Wallowing in negativity does not help you or the situation.

I really doubt Disney would start charging for younger children. If they did Disney would be endangering themselves by losing a lot of business. This move would cause many many parents who would be booking trips to say they wont go then until their children are older and can get the benefits of a Disney park day. As it is there are very few things a younger child can do due to height restrictions. Parents want to go to Disney with their younger children but if it costs more they will easily back away.

I would be fine with that if it meant fewer strollers in the park.

I'm also not sure if someone spending several grand on a Disney trip would be put off by an extra $200 total to bring their infant. People would be initially upset for sure, but I'm not convinced it would really deter that many people.

But here's the rub, outside of one poster, it does not seem as if anyone is giving up the mouseworld. go figure.

as to the original question? Don't know, I don't have any horse in this race since I did not take my kids until they were 6 years old. I wasn't pushing a stroller.

My answer is really a standard general answer, Disney like any other business will charge what the market will bare. they are not a "non" profit organization, they have shareholders who want a return on their investments.
Change will come very simply when the price no longer supports the objective. then Disney will either have to offer something new or they will offer deep discounts to bring crowds back.

Now I totally admit I'm not that "deep", I'm pretty basic. when my family and I stop having a good time at the world, then we will stop going. I can't understand giving a vacation spot an "f" and then going back. While I don't like price increases I'll either absorb them or find a way around them.

but I do agree with Animaniac, if I'm shelling out $7,000 bucks on a trip is an extra 250 going to prevent me from going?? doubt it. now if I'm shelling out 7 grand and I don't have a good time? I'm done.

For the same reason I am a Bills fan. Yes, you read that correct, a Buffalo Bills fan. They create more aggravation than Disney, and I still support both.

So, are you suggesting everything you enjoy always makes all the perfect decisions? People vent, look for validation from others, and hope for better. There is not too much more to it than that.

Well I'm a Philly gal so we finally have bragging rights but whew boy did it seem a long time coming.

I think the big difference is the Eagles don't cost me anything. I love and support them for free most of the time. Vacations though are huge investments in time and money.

The next issue is control over the enjoyment, while there isn't a thing I can do to control if the Eagles don't suck or not, there are some steps I can take to make sure my vacations are enjoyable.
For example my late dh and I got married in September and of course being the natural mensa cases we thought we were, what do we do? we book a cruise through the Caribbean in the middle of hurricane season. guess what happened, yep got it by a storm.
Never did that again. lol

Lastly vacations generally are about more than just visiting a place, as we can see from here, vacations are emotional, for many it's the only time during the year they have to recharge and unwind. we definitely do want as close to perfection as we can get.

How do we profit from infants themselves if they don't know what Marvel or Pixar or Star Wars is? We want those freeloading babies to start paying their fair share.

The day is coming when ALL outside food and drinks will be banned from the parks.* Then they'll get their baby money in formula sales.

* For your safety and security, of course!

Eagles don't coast you anything huh?

What do tickets to the game cost you?
Parking at the Stadium?
Paying for cable to watch the games?
Jerseys?
Other clothing, Eagles related? hats, etc.
Food for Sunday games, for 17 weeks

Seems like there definitely is a cost to being an Eagles fan to me?
Years of frustration of losing until 2018, must of cost you a lot of money for Dr appts, lolol
