Fixes for the Haunted Mansion

If you had control over what project to work on next at Disneyland, what changes or fixes would you do the Haunted Mansion? I would fix the ceiling in the graveyard scene so it doesn't look like ceiling tiles are falling off. I would also add some additional sounds of wood stretching or creeking to the stretching room.

Whatever happen to that giant spider in the loading area? I remember the doombuggies came down the stairs through it.

- Tombstones outside
- April portrait in changing portrait hallway
- Giant spider in giant spider web in loading area
- Attic becomes pre-1990s
- Haunted Mansion Holiday abolished
I'd love for the attic to at *least* get the shrieking heads back...but keep Hat Box. He waited so long for his chance to shine...

The endless staircase from MK could work nicely in the load area. Or maybe a grand staircase like in Paris but not so brightly lit and made to fit our HM.

I'm one of the few that doesn't like the staircase they added to the MK version. I know it's inspired by concept art and Escher, but it looks like the staircases in Hogwarts with the lights dimmed. I preferred the dark staircase with the spider webs.

As for the Phantom Manor staircase, I'm sure it's cool, but I still don't want anything like that added to the Disneyland loading area. I like the limbo of boundless mist and decay. They just need to turn the lights down.

-April changing portrait.
-Change current stretching room portraits back to the Marc Davis originals.
-Renovate the loading area, maybe Escher staircase?
-Completely refurb the attic to its previous form, maybe even move Hattie into the actual attic scene.
-Fix lighting.
-Update/refurb all animatronics.

I haven't seen the MK or DLP Haunted Mansions in person but the endless staircase looks pretty cool in that Haunted Mansion book I bought.

I'd be perfectly happy if we just got the upgraded stretching room that Florida has. Not sure why those minor updates (that go a long way) haven't made their way to DL yet. Florida can keep the staircase room and all the other cool upgrades (meh on the queue, but I actually dig the digital hitchhiking ghosts!), I think it's fair to let them have their own unique differences seeing as how we get HBG and the added queue thru the changing portraits/busts.

For the most part, I don't like any of the changes they've made to either Haunted Mansion. They don't improve the attractions and in most cases, damage it. For instance, let's focus on Disneyland.

- Pet cemetery added outside...kinda dumb and doesn't really mesh with the style of the attraction. Those Tim Burton-looking things on the brick wall are especially atrocious. They added these but removed the ones up on the berm that were classic tributes to WED people. Those disappeared when they put the pumpkins up for Haunted Mansion Holiday. Bad.

- Changing portrait hallway was altered to have the flashing lightning instantaneously change the portraits. However, the April portrait got the axe, which no one agrees with. Instead, we have the MK foyer portrait, but not the way it was intended to be seen with a gradual transformation. It doesn't even look right when it changes because you can see the young guy's hair on the skull. The cat lady went from a sexy girl in white turning into a black cat to a goth-looking chick in black turning into a tiger. Why? There are many that prefer the old way the paintings changed. Kinda bad.

- Madame Leota floats, but I can see the strings holding her up. WED's 1969 floating objects have no visible strings, why does a 2000s WDI effect? Bad.

- Attic. Just kinda awful.

Thankfully, Disneyland's is mostly intact other than that stuff. MK had some serious alterations made to the soundtrack, the corridor of doors and that original opening where the eyes of the portraits follow you.

Constance was certainly a bad change to the Mansion. The attic was the one scene that unsettling and spooky due to its darkness and the screaming ghouls popping out at you. Have you seen what the old bride looked like? A bit like Eva from Ghost Story (1981), who once appeared in Universal's Gory Gruesome and Grotesque Horror Make-Up Show. Constance makes even less sense now that a more fitting character has been added immediately after her.
