The Sword in the Stone ceremony returning to the Magic Kingdom?

I just read over on MiceChat that someone was in the Magic Kingdom on Sunday and, apparently, they were holding a ceremony in which a little boy was chosen to pull the sword from the anvil in Fantasyland, accompanied by a four musician band that was playing "That's What Makes the World Go 'Round." Merlin was not present, however.

The person who reported this said that they talked to a Cast Member, who said the Sword in the Stone ceremony is being revived. They also said that Merlin isn't available right now, but he might be returning in the future.

Can anyone confirm this?

With the Fantasyland Expansion this wouldn't surprise me at all. I think it fits nicely into the new focus on the "royalty" of the Magic Kingdom though I'd be disappointed if Merlin weren't associated any longer... it's the Sword in the Stone afterall. Not much you can "retheme" with that.

They probably don't have an actor who can be friends with Merlin on such sort notice. I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't see a casting call for one soon. I wonder if this also has something to do with the popularity of SotMK and the fact that kids now know who Merlin is. These kind of M&G and special little additions get scrapped as soon as kids forget what story they came from and stop being excited.

Excellent point on the Merlin thing (SotMK). I hadn't even thought of that. The whole "scrapping" thing was kind of my point that unlike other things where when kids don't know the associated story, you can retheme it... how in the world do you retheme a sword stuck in a stone? LOL

There are currently at least two actors still there who could do this tomorrow if need be. But I think this might just be merchandise playing with the button rather than a formal reinstatement.

I agree with Asianway - I've heard that the Magical Moment is getting a little more attention (something about new music perhaps), but it's still essentially a Magical Moment not an organized show.

What an addition this could be for Fanatasyland. This was such a simple show that was so much fun to see and be a part of. One could only hope that TDO would make a good call and bring this little gem back.

Now if this actaully happens, can we all promise to be nice to TDO for one full week and not make a negative comment about them?

That's funny because I was talking to someone in another thread (I think one of the "how do they do that?" ones) and they swore that MK HAS been doing it daily already (this was several weeks ago). This was from me talking about how when I worked as an Ent Tech, I had one of the guys show me the old console where the tech would release the "brake" on the sword when given the signal and how they had cut the wires so no one could come up there and free it now. They told me they hadn't heard anything about a room with a control thing in it (but as I stated, it's been 4 years since I worked there, so they could've fixed it easily), but now I'm reading it "might be coming back." Guess I wasn't going as crazy as I thought.

it is back, kind of...

the fantasyland woodwind society surrounds the person trying to pull the sword and they play triumphant music. if the person can't lift it, they stop playing mid-song.

if the guest pulls it, they continue to play the music.

it's associated with entertainment and i'm not sure if anything is being given to the guest who lifts the sword.

This.....this....this...... these are the small thimgs that matter to me....more of this please. If you can have a hundred magical moments everyday just thnk how Magical MK would be. And how much does it really cost? These things are what we all talk about.....the details of a visit. Sure it isnt earth shattering but give me big doses of this all over WDW and then we have something.

Again... they give them a Tom Sawyer's Island Paint Brush
