Most real country?

Of the eleven pavillions in the World Showcase, which one do you feel is the best representation of the host country? I have been fortunate enough to travel to each country represented except Japan, and I think Morocco most feels like Morrocco, at least Tangiers. It is kinda eery actually, I took a tour of the Casbah, and the Morrocco pavillion is dead on (minus some interesting smells). Mexico feels the least like it's host country to me, how do you feel each country is portrayed?

I have only been to a few of the countries represented in EPCOT, and out of the ones that I have been to, I think France is the most realistic. It really reminds me of a smaller (and cleaner) Paris. I do agree that Morocco is extreemly realistic. I've never been to Morocco in real life, but it does feel more of a flesh and blood place than any of the other pavillions.

I was stationed in Northern Japan, Misawa to be exact, and I don't think the Japan pavillion even comes close. Nothing beats walking down the street and seeing whole fish on a stick cooking over hot coals.

I loved Japan and wouldn't hesitate to go back. While WS is nice, nothing is like actually living in another culture.

I haven´t been to Morocco, but it is the most original pavillion as it was made by moroccans, so it should be pretty accurate.

France is pretty much like Paris looks in some streets too. Same with Italy and the Duce´s Palace in the Saint Marc Square in Venice, but cleaner...hehe.

Mexico is very accurate inside. It resembles a typical plaza from any city in Central Mexico from the colonial years. I think they did a great job in there. I don´t really like the pyramid, although it has a few designs that are just like the ones in Uxmal, a Mayan archaeological site. :)

I have not been outside this country, but I do doubt if Mexico is very represented of what it would be like to visit the actual country.

I do have a question...if anyone knows...How much say did the countries have when creating their pavillons in WS?

Well each land is supposed to be a cultural representation of an aspect of the host country, not a slice of life for that country.

Japan has the look and a bit of the feel for a shinto temple, but totally misses the modern neon jungle metropolis of Tokyo or Osaka.

Mexico is similar. They chose to present their native cultures and how they influenced Modern Mexico.

Each country has picked whatever feature, city, cultural, or historic aspect that they want to show off, and didn't really design them to be what life is like in that country.

So I think it's unfair to say that an Epcot pavilion should capture a the look and feel of a whole country anymore than you can say the American Adventure pavilion captures the feel of the US.

Doesn't the host country put up half the money for the pavilion so I would imagine they get quite a good bit of say into what goes in and what doesn;t

Excellent question Redvette.

I think it all depends where in each county they attempt to portray.

For example, in the UK, you certainly wouldn't find many country gardens in Scotland etc, but may in England. Were the UK to be renamed 'Scotland', it would be vastly innaccurate.

If you take the WSC Treasures tour (I think that´s the right name :brick: ) they will explain to you what they wanted to show in each country and what each thing represents. It´s a great tour.

Concerning the UK, they tried to represent that: the United Kingdom. That´s why it has different styles from each country in it. If you see it as that, it totally makes sense, as Tenchu said. :)

Well, I've visted 5 of the countries represented. They all seem to look like the country they represent, except America. The Canadian pavillion reminds me so much of home :) I know it doesn't look like Toronto, were most of you ( i would assume) would compare it too, but it looks alot like BC and Quebec. Canada is so huge, there are many different 'flavours' in the country, you couldn't fit it into such a small pavillion.

Aside from Canada (I live on the border and travel there frequently) I think the most accurate country is Italy. I was a foreign exchange student in Italy and am quite familiar with the architecture and general ambience of a piazza. The Italy in WS does a great job of the details...I just wish that it went back farther...possible having an enclosed piazza or maybe an extension of the venetian waterways back into the country that wound around restaurants, shops, etc. What a great idea!!!

I lived in Japan for 3 years. My Father was in the Army for 23 years.

While it's true, the Japan Pavillion doens't LOOK much like the real Japan....the gift shop SMELLS exactly like a Japanese Shop.

I couldn't believe it...the first time I walked IN there...it was like I was back in Tokyo...and a kid again. :)

Canada was a close second to Mexico for me for not being like the host country. When I go to Canada (I have driven transCanada 1 from Vancouver to Quebec City) I get a certain feeling, and that feeling (for me) is lacking in the Canadian Pavillion. That is why I asked the question, what cues and signals do the pavillions give off that make them feel authentic. Italy is very accurate archtecturally, but I do not for a second feel like I do in an Italian piazza. The UK and France however do a little trickery to my brain, and I can somewhat feel the host country. Norway misses, until I go into Akershus for Dinner, then it is whammo, back to Oslo. China is just wrong, it feels more like Chinatown in LA than it does any city in China, maybe if they packed about 1500 bicycles into there it would feel better. The comment about the smell in Japan, is great, that is amazing that they get that part right. The US pavillion makes me think of Charlottesville VA, a cool little city with a long heritage. Germany the country is so big and diverse, Germany the Pavillion is a little one dimensional, and again if it weren't for the restaurant, wouldn't seem much like Germany at all. Lets keep it coming, I really like to hear about a Pavillion that really nails it and why.

England was pretty good from what i remember with the pub and the little bone-china shop. I also remember it raining as soon as we walked in and have a photo of it too.

Poor Mexico. Unless you travel outside of the tourist areas, you will not find little towns which look like the Mexico in Epcot. The old little buildings and even the hanging lights....trust me its real.

But I have to give my vote to France. Since I was in Paris in May, I can tell you that its very close.

Morocco is beautiful and I assume very close to the real thing.

thought the countries were supposed to be more then just a look, the pavilions are supposed to reprosent the art, history, food, lifestyle and folklore of the countries they reprosent. in that respect all the countries are dead on.
