20,000 Leagues sub at Epcot

Last week we took the Behind the Seeds Tour and I saw what appeared to be a 20,000 Leagues sub back there and also what looked like a Jungle Cruise boat and something left over from the Mexico refurb. Any ideas what they are there for? I looked on google earth and it didnt look like they were there then.

From time to time, special events that take place in the World Showplace building (old Millennium Village) use them as props. I've seen them at a couple September Pin Events. I've also seen a car from Mr. Toad, an old Monorail cab, and other such vehicles.

Yup, the sub has been there for years, along with the JC boat. The little tower thingy pre-dated the Mexico refurb. My best guess is that it was once in IASW.

It's like a WDW version of U-Pull-It! :lol: Makes me want to go on that tour just to check it out!

To the OP - or anyone that knows - do they give any type of souvenir or hand-out when you do the Behind the Seeds tour?

I love that Nautilus. 20,000 Leauges is one of my all time favorite novels. I love the movie, the ride, and that sub just looks so great. I'd love to see a picture of that backstage.

As far as the tour you get to touch aa few vegtables and the mickey pumpkins as well as a tasting of a cucumber that is grown there. At the end there is a small challenge and you get a small 4x6 version of the magical moments card but thats all.

Im pretty sure we were not supose to be taking pictures there but we were told at the beginning to take all the pictures we wanted. All I will say is it was sometime during the past few months........

When I went (about two years ago) we got to try to tomatoes from the huge tomato tree they grow! They were about the best tomatoes I've ever had! Me and my friend were the only ones on the tour, so it was a great personal experience.

I've always wanted to do this tour, especially since I am an avid vegetable gardener.....a private tour would be amazing, though!

Those were all taken with either a Nikon D40X with the Nikkor 18-200VR lense or a Sony DSC-W170 point and shoot.

Yea I really wish I would have had the Nikon with the zoom lense that day but I went with the small and simple Sony.

Unfortunately, it's in a restricted area of backstage, and that's as close as guests are allowed to get to it. It was recently moved to its present position in the little boneyard, and is coincidentally much more visible to guests on the tour than before. No guarantees that it will be visible on future tours--for a decomissioned sub, it certainly moves around a lot!

No Nautilus submarine from 20'000 Leagues Under The Sea has ever been displayed, or seen at the Backlot tour in Disney's Hollywood Studios. When I went to WDW last year, I asked two cast members at Epcot about the submarine that was backstage.

They said that they moved it behind Mission: Space, but in my opinion, I think the information is quite inaccurate, and I believe that is has been behind Soarin for about 5-6 years, and it is probably still there.

About the Nautilus being at Disney's Hollywood Studios does have some basis of true fact. When I went the first time to WDW in 1999, I did see the remains of a Nautilus submarine from the attraction sitting as a static prop in the Pearl Harbour water tank area of the Backlot Tour. It was a very large green vessel with huge wheelhouse eyes, and appeared to have been cut at the dorsal fin, as no tail or rear was visible.

Unfortunately, by the time I went to WDW for the second time in 2002, it was gone. It was possibly removed in 2001. Other Nautili that I have seen around the Disney theme parks was a huge model that used to be in the Living Seas in Epcot, and one that is currently displayed in Walt Disney: One Man's Dream at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I saw that one last year (in 2008).
