It was just announced that Scott Trowbridge, former VP of Universal Creative (and probably more famous for his works, including IOA and the Harry Potter project) will be taking over WDI Research and Development, reporting to Bruce Vaughn. For all intents and purposes he can be considered just as powerful as John Lasseter as far as new attractions development goes.

Let the panic/excited discussion/cautious optimism for the future begin...

My first thought, can't say if it is true or not, is that Disney saw what Uni has in store for Harry Potter and were nervously impressed, so wooed him over to their side...

Again my opinion, and I do think that this could be a good move toward getting different types of attractions in the parks.

I'll be interested in seeing how this all pans out.

If he was one of the main people for IOA then he used to be part of WDI I am guessing. Almost everyone from Universal Creative that had anything to do with IOA were ex-WDI people.

We'll have to see what his attention to detail level is. Did he formally work for WDI but went to Uni for IOA in the 90's? This could be good, or bad.
We can only sit and watch now.

Scott Trowbridge has never worked for WDI prior to his new assignment. Before he came to Universal Creative he worked for Landmark Entertainment.

He is amazingly talented. I can't wait to see what he will do with the budget and the labor at his disposal at WDI.

I read about this earlier today. I do not think Trowbridge was ever at WDI. He was the lead guy on the Spiderman attraction at UO though.

I think this is going to be a positive move for Disney in the long run. However I highly doubt Disney stole him away from Universal due to fears of Potter. That train is already in motion and it is not going to be sabotaged by a move like this.

I follow the simplest explanation is usually the correct one ideal. In that case I bet this move occurred due to corporate Disney wanting some new ideas and new blood at WDI.

I'm pretty sure he was the head guy for Spiderman as I remember him on a travel channel special talking about the ride.

Any way for WDI to bring in new, talented people is fine with me. It's too bad it has taken so long for Universal to follow up after IOA. They had a chance to jump into the market big time by riding IOA, and they blew it IMO.

Cool.
I don't know Scott personally, but I hear very good things.

Never hurts to have new ideas over at....
