Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I’d be fine with this, or to at least to squeeze legal assurances out of Paramount.

I just don’t want Netflix to own Warner, that was the worst case scenario.

When did China suddenly become anti Statue of Liberty?

There's a popular theme park near Shenzhen called Window Of The World. It has replicas and models of famous landmarks from many nations around the world. For the section representing the U.S., they had no issue placing the Statue of Liberty as a prominent symbol, along with the Washington monument, White House, NYC, Niagara Falls, etc etc.
But they don't like it shown in movies?

Well they literally have an entire Winnie the Pooh miniland.

It is strange, actually, seems pretty silly to ban that and allow Captain America.

Ran across this today, in an attempt to understand why Netflix would spend so much money to acquire a theatrical movie studio if they don’t intend to make theatrical movies, and found it very interesting.

Interesting to see parallels between how the studios combined with the big TV networks decades ago and how the same thing is happening again with streaming.

Updated with the Netflix, Paramount, WB changes.

Okay gang, here we go! Shake off those winter doldrums, because we finally have a new tent pole movie from Burbank! 🥳

Pixar's Hoppers, which reportedly had a comparatively modest production budget of just $150 Million, has debuted in American theaters. Per Social Media, it reportedly did about $3 Million in preview box office yesterday.

Except today, The Numbers site is currently down for maintenance. The moose out front shoulda told ya! :banghead:

But on Sunday we'll have a new movie to track! What's the buzz on Hoppers? Are the kids talking about it? I actually saw several commercials for it on YouTube this week, and there's Park presence for this movie at DCA. So it appears they are trying to hype it, and Burbank feels good about it!

With a $150 Million production budget, Hoppers will need to reach $375 Million at the global box office to break even, using the Metric system.

It was always about buying competition, making them a monopoly.

This is the first (non sequel) Pixar movie in a long time I have high box office expectations for. I think over $500 million is very likely. Starting off the year with a couple hundred million in profit rather than loss would be a nice change for Disney from recent years, they typically pull out a win by the end of the year but its gotta be a stressful way to run a division.

Great film! Thought it was hilarious and it went surprisingly unhinged.

Highly recommend SE Asian theatrical experiences. Somehow they get more over the top.

I was sad “the bed” theatrical time didn’t line up so instead I picked “first class” whatever that meant.

A very upscale lounge, better than North American buisness or certainly plaza premiums pre show lounge with servers. With covered non alcoholic drinks and canapés and dim sum. An included popcorn menu and extremely large lounger seats.

They definitely - one hundred percent, laid up the possibility of sequels towards the end of the film.

I mean it looks fine, if they want to dominate the box office they need to do better than above average though to drive in lots of demos.

Inside Out back in 2015 was a breakout hit because it was really, really good. I think of the Bing Bong arc and I’m like wow this is a well written movie.

@BrianLo would you say it’s that level? I just need to see it and decide for myself LMAO.

Yeah I didn’t mean to say there won’t be a sequel. Just that the story as it was felt very complete to me. Of course pending success any sequel is possible 😅
