MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

To what extent are the brakes being pumped here?
They aren’t, just back to the drawing boards and trying to buy an 8k TV when you only have a Lincoln in the bank account. That being said this means everyone has to work extra to make sure this gets finished on time and within budget. This is New Fantasyland all over again there’s not much more that can be changed in terms of layout due to tracks/canals, and Floridian Way being in the way in terms of space/expansion. There also won’t be any further rerouting of waterways as that would halt dates due to having to deal with South Florida Water Management District.

Curious how much (if any) of this “scrapping” or “pumping the breaks” on current plans is coming directly from D’Amaro, and how much might be Josh deferring to something Jeff Vahle or WDI wanted.

I could see Josh working to set a more team-like tone by saying, in effect, “Guys, now that I’m in charge, I want to let you lead in ways we weren’t previously free to do.”

This would do a lot for good will, morale, and internal culture. It could also be really good for the parks.

If Floridian Way is now in the way, that would be a massive framework shift. There was zero expectancy this expansion was ever abutting the road from any boundary.
Even if you generally stayed within the railroad tracks, the land in play is sizeable. There's no reason that more than two rides can't fit there unless the space utilization is following the current inefficient norm—in which case, use it more efficiently.

Obviously lots and lots of people are always involved in these things. But I’m pretty confident this is a signature project for him. Likewise I expect heavy, heavy participation around Disneyland Abu Dhabi.

Even Iger got unusually legacy-like around SDL and Pandora and Iger unarguably has less affection for parks than D’Amaro. Faked, perceived, or not, it’s just fairly known.

This was his proposal under Chapek and his signature announcement with funding seeking under Iger. Unless his leadership goes south, he’ll be there for opening.

I wonder if there’s alternative other proposals waiting in the wings to cover the gap. Looking at Epcot.

There seems to still be concern about urgency and volume if this is now pushed back.

EPCOT will have a few things here and there, mostly refurbishments/refreshes like we're currently seeing. Maybe an attraction. But I have to imagine the biggest and best plans will be scheduled to coincide with the 50th. That said, I wouldn't expect to hear about any of that until D23 2028.

I want to believe you have some insider info, and you may, but when the quote was 'budget secondary', but you're implying they were told to go bigger under the same budget requirements, something doesn't add up. I also don't believe anyone actually in Imagineering is risking their jobs to talk about things like this on a public forum like ours. You may have a friend in Imagineering giving you info or you could just be expressing your opinions in a way meant to sound like you do know insider info. Either way, what you're saying and what Len has said do not mesh. One of you has to be wrong, and no offense to you, but Len has a proven track record of reliable sources.

I too don’t expect nor see need for much more land usage. Maybe optimization behind and around Haunted Mansion. There was clearly a lot of wasted and underutilized empty space.

I know nothing about what's going on, but it would surprise me if D'Amaro is already giving orders before actually being in the chair. That seems like an opportune way to undercut your boss, who D'Amaro clearly owes everything to. Unless Iger is just kind of checked out by this point and is fine with it.

I think that's was @ULPO46 was trying to say: we can be pretty sure the changes won't include an acreage expansion that pushes the boundary too far towards Floridian Way.

That said, is it a plausible hope that they'll use more space past the railroad tracks, now? And perhaps extend the dark ride's show building plot further east (i.e., the space north of iasw)? My biggest concern is the scale/ambition of the dark ride, as the land may in large part be judged by that.

In the post mortem exposés on Iger-Chapek, the parks handover was instantaneous and without real drama, the entertainment division was the fractious one.

I would be very surprised if Iger was micromanaging this portfolio. They’ve been traveling together constantly the last few years. It would demonstrate an inability to give up the reigns and unlike most, I really think he wants to leave on good terms and for good. I also think Iger’s preferred pick was D’Amaro.

He’ll get his legend award in 2028, there’s very little evidence they don’t like each other.
