Len Testa - “Disney positions itself as the all-American vacation. The irony is that most Americans can’t afford it.”

Orange County reported record tourist tax revenue for August, up 10% YOY:
  • Occupancy up 2.5% to 63.9%
  • Average daily rate (ADR) up 2.3% to $164/night
  • Short-term rental demand up 18%
IIRC that's the fourth consecutive month of record tax revenue.

Thanks for the info - I am a little surprised about Short Term rental being up so much (I assume that is things like AirBnB) just with, supposedly, international travel to the U.S. down, figured that is the type of lodging that would feel it the most

but maybe this area is just immune to what is plaguing other areas of the country

Wow. With that sort of tourist growth I'm sure we can expect to see MK close due to capacity constraints this weekend :D

Boomers own 25% of real estate in this country and hold most of wealth. They will eventually die off. Will they leave their wealth to their kids or will that dry up due to some economic event.

I know the Disney adults like to think they are the norm, but its such a small minority. If you never have kids are you going to spend your vacation money going to WDW every year. That's kind of weird.
My personal anecdotal experience over the last 10 years is a shift in the attitude of that genny to transition from giving it away to SPENDING it as Father Time comes up in the passing lane…

The mentality is they believe they act as their parents did…but actions are diverging noticeably.

Our financial advisor's advice ~ either we spend the money we worked our butts off to earn, or our kids will.

Is attendance right now as low as clickbait leads me to believe it is? Have Disney's high prices and a struggling economy driven people away? Have we entered a period where there is a gloriously uncrowded off-season at WDW as I so fondly remember? Will Uber's robot cars rise up and destroy all that we hold dear?

For example, I think folks avoid MK on Halloween party nights because the park closes early and that's when the clickbaiters claim the park is empty.

Honestly, my wife and I typically go on a party day to MK. We get on so many rides. And we have a blast doing it.

And I am not a clickbaiter. I have no Disney site, vlog, YouTube channel, etc. Nor do I have an agenda. I’m just a dude who posts here.

Its a fact the crowds are lower on party days.

The clickbsiters use these days to say everyday is not crowded.

No, but Iike a lot of times you can find pockets that make it look crazy empty

Probably flat to slightly down from last year .... Just still way down from what people remember prior to covid and probably down a little from "revenge" travel

Honestly, as a guest it is a good level - still enough people to make the parks feel alive but not jammed pack. Prior to Covid they were too crowded

That explains MK, but what about the other parks? The reports of empty parks aren’t limited to MK. 🤷‍♂️

One question is, did Epic Universe drive enough increased tourism so as not to pull from other parks, or was the impact more along the lines of spreading the crowds out?

Everything “added” since the length of stay duration hit the wall around 2000 has thinned the crowds…offset by normal people increases in frequency of volume/air travel/ non local recreation/etc.

I think it did create some new visitors that were interested in those IPs ... my wondering was if that increase was more or less than the loss of people that weren't traveling/to Florida/to the U.S. and sees like it at least made up that gap

Another video that Bob Iger desperately needs to watch before it’s too late…

“In this context, the Las Vegas brand began to wear down, not in terms of occasional visitors but in the bond of trust with its most loyal audience, which is much harder to win back. That visitor who had recommended the city for years, who came back with friends or partners, who knew the terrain and knew how to get the most out of the experience, that visitor started saying maybe they’d never come back to Vegas again, the new Vegas isn’t dead, it’s still creating millions in revenue, but it’s doing it with a more volatile audience, one that’s much less emotionally connected to the city... and that’s dangerous”

It’s a good thing the company isn’t shifting away from multigenerational families to Double Income No Kids or fickle Millennials that absolutely love their consumed content of choice up until the moment they don’t.
