And then you wait half an hour for your burger because 50 other people are also using mobile ordering.

Meanwhile, every one that was in the register line already got their order way ahead of you.

Mobile Ordering Food =/= Fast Food

It doesn't get shifted away to other dining other than when its actually better. If you're a family and you see that the Casey's Corner has a 30 minute wait to get your food while Cheshire Cafe is immediately, you might end up choosing Chesire Cafe. That family doesn't have to roam across the entire park to make their choice and end up overbearing 1 restaurant over another. It allows for underutilized restaurants that don't have long lines usually to be more equalized as people can check directly how long they will have to wait to get their food and make an informed decision. So while it doesn't increase actual capacity, it does increase the overall capacity of people who can realistically eat at once as it helps divide the people up around the park easier.

What gets shifted is the experience impacts caused by strained capacity. Instead of waiting in line at a register you wait elsewhere and at the pickup window. People spending the wait elsewhere contribute to crowding in those places.

Mobile order doesn’t optimize across the park at scale. It doesn’t give various wait times. People shouldn’t have to trek across a park for a meal. But most importantly, a snack window is not a substitute for a true QSR venue. Why wasn’t your example of Mobile order directing people to Cosmic Rays?

Even then, if they were to save the lower island of TSI and have the Belle run a circular route around it, as imagined by Eddie Sotto on his Twitter, while filling in the northern RoA, this project would be a much easier pill to swallow.

Waiting anywhere other than behind a bunch of aggravating people who don’t understand how lines work, how to order, pay or pretty much anything else is a blessing.

When use is wider you go from someone not knowing what they want to being stuck waiting at a pickup counter as someone complains that the computer should have known they messed up their order.

Joe Rohde has a brilliant set of posts on instagram talking about “intuitive navigation” - it’s about a proposed modern condo building in Santa Barbara but much of it applies to this expansion. He touches on many of the same themes including “your just defending nostalgia”

Those are really cool posts, and I was interested in his comment that archaeological knowledge was lost during the last century. I also wonder if the zeitgeist is at a period of low risk taking at the moment, which tends to result in gravitation towards an acceptable but rather unexciting mean. In some ways I think social media has pulled us back towards an almost draconian level of conformity (due to the risk of online harassment and piling on, idealistic images of “perfection” shoved in people’s faces from a young age, the idea that what doesn’t sell or get likes isn’t any good, etc.) while great artistry tends to result from a passion for self expression. The big building in Santa Barbara is only getting some minimal amount of attention because it’s so discordant with what’s already there. If we were talking about a new development, there’s no question which style would instantly win out.

Moveable bridges? It becomes more hassle than its worth

there would have been 2 solutions. 1 would be keep the maintenance canal and add a movable bridge.

The other is design a new maintenance dock for the liberty Belle so she doesn’t have to leave the MK.

Neither would have been particularly difficult.

I'm intrigued by the argument that 1. Mobile order people are immediately going to be crowding other places? Like someone with a 20 minute wait for mobile ordering isn't jumping in a super popular crowded line. They're going to go to Carousel of Progress, M.I.L.F., stuff like that because it's a reliable amount of time they can spend. They know they can get into the next showing almost instantly and be done by a certain time. Maybe they'll do some shopping around Main Street, keeping them out of the much more crowded other sections of the park. Mobile Order does give the wait times and helps it so people don't have to trek around the park for a meal??? Let's say my family wants to eat an actual lunch and they're currently hanging out around the Circus/Mad Tea Party area. Someone who doesn't mobile order would have to walk to the nearby Cosmic Ray's, see the line is too long for them, then get out and find something else.

Someone who did mobile order can look at the times their food would be ready for the nearest restaurant, see that Cosmic Rays is way too long for them but oh look Pinnochio's will be ready more quickly and Philharmagic is about to start in a little bit. That's taking away the guest work. I find it interesting that you claim mobile order spending time waiting could cause more congestion and crowding but not walking around to find a suitable line/menu for your family. Mobile Order gives you your options and can be made further in advance so if you know you're already going to be in a land, you can mobile order that food for around the time of a LL or something.

That's someone not using mobile ordering right. Mobile ordering is best for when you're not actually at the restaurant yet but you're hungry and want something. If a register has such a short line and you're already there, why would you pull out your phone to go look for the options, see the time, and then still proceed with the order?

I especially love the folks at Aloha Isle who literally place their mobile order while blocking the entrance for the rest of us.

That would make sense! BOG lunch was great... only did it once but it was a highlight. Haven't been back for pre fixe

I wish they had a different option for addressing people only ordering a small item in a highly themed area other than going full on to a prefixe.

I get not wanting people to go for breakfast or lunch and only ordering a cupcake, but then do a table minimum $ but let people order as they wish or something (would say same as for places like California Grill whick we love but struggle to pay $89 each for my three "Disney adult" kids)

Question I’m not sure I’ve seen been brought up, I think others have speculated that Villains Land may have some food options, but has there been any rumor or information on if there may be some type of food options for the Cars area?

There has been no mention of anything and nothing specific on either of the concept art pieces shared.

My guess is there will be snack carts, maybe with like a themed churro or something but no actual quick service or table service restaurants.

What part of Tom Sawyer Island required any familiarity with Tom Sawyer? Since when do people need a relevant media franchise to understand concepts like play and exploration?

It doesn't; however, if it were a Cars themed expansive playground area (any popular IP), one would guess that it would have a much busier presence.

I just commented elsewhere how I enjoy that the DL / WDW have different attractions on each coast; but as a primary WDW traveler - I would LOVE having those cones in WDW ha.

The kitchen is the primary constraint. If a kitchen can only support 500 meals per hour then that does not somehow increase because the orders are being placed differently.

But here’s the kicker, because dining areas are sized to kitchens, if people taking tables during the clear course of having their meal is a serious issue then you do in fact have a capacity and design problem!

My only question is... is the kitchen the primary constraint on non-mobile order restaurants? If the kitchen can take 500 people per hour... but the registers average 450 people per hour... Mobile order would add capacity.
