Circling back to my post from last year about the float from Tokyo: that was incorrect. The Peter Pan float, which you all have seen by now, is all-new!

I'm happy to be wrong here because the scale of the new float is incredible in person, and they aren’t even flying yet!
I don't think they'll fly. I'll be glad to be wrong but there's not hardware and where it would be, is encircled by the light rope(?) wrapping all the way around the "moon".

Also distance between props like how Belle pointed out:

I agree. I think it's a solid parade float wise (and I like the music), though I do have further critical thoughts. But they REALLY botched the costumes for the street performers. Shockingly poor. For as much as I despise most of Paint the Night (and stand by that opinion 100%), i've always given praise to much of its costuming for the street performers. They're one of the few actually good things about it.

I’ve seen that the costumes for PTN are considered a problem - they are apparently heavy and uncomfortable, expensive to run, difficult to maintain/keep in good shape, etc. it’s allegedly one of the main reasons they are hesitant to run PTN consistently. I didn’t expect them to have anything similar to those outfits for this parade at MK.

That said, there’s a middle ground where they could/should have something more elaborate that what we saw last night even if not as significant as PTN or other parades.

Then again, entirely possible to change the outfits in the future if it is deemed a deficiency. Actually I kind of wonder if these outfits aren’t the “real thing” because this wasn’t an official parade. Or they might even be a rainy day alternative. Can we hope we might see something more spectacular on Sunday?

Not sure why so many here keep comparing this to Paint the Night whether for better or worse,,,, it was not meant to be or designed to be a version of Paint the Night.....Starlight does need some smaller whirlyball floats or something like that in-between and def more characters,,one princess per float is pretty much all you get. Except for a prince or two on the royal float and a couple more characters in the final.

While not quite as flamboyantly crazy as the ones from PtN, Dreamlights has also had very elegant costumes for decades. I don't know if they have the same supposed discomfort or maintenance issues (OLC doesn't follow the same sort of managereal cheapness as TWDC). But still, i'm sure something better could have been made. These are terrible. As I said, worse than the ancient non-LED lit costumes used for Spectromagic/Fantillusion. Remember those butterfly wing costumes from Spectro? Seriously, what on earth were they thinking not doing something like that for the Encanto part instead of the props on a stick? Especially since they literally marketed this as taking inspirations from that parade...

I'd guess these costumes are the final intended ones. They appeared in their recent making of videos on the parade and they were acting like they were proud of the result. I was actually concerned about their quality when I first saw them there, and it appears that my fears were confirmed.

Yes they COULD swap them out at some point. And costuming WOULD be one of the easiest things to fix. But lets be realistic, the odds of that happening are very low.

Paint the Night mostly sucks IMO. What I was most worried about for years was that it would become the template for how all future parades are designed. Or that we would end up receiving either a clone or that one of the existing variants would be shipped here. I'm glad it didn't, at least not completely (though its shortness does appear to be the new normal unfortunately). It is inevitable that all parades are going to be compared with one another.

They will fly, it’s tucked into the same positioning as the Dreaming Up float. It will take some time, but knowing the float was designed for this…. I don’t see it getting scraped.

So, after a few hours since the premiere, having slept on it and watched it again, I feel more than I did before that this parade, while pleasant, just seems to be lacking in a few key areas as I mentioned before. It seems like they ran out of steam (or money) when doing the final plussing on it and filling in the gaps with the fine details that would make this parade great and stand the test of time.

I think the sad little “Starlight” float after whimsy comes across as more of a sigh than an exclamation mark after the pretty great Whimsy float. Seems like moving that to the front of the parade ahead of the Blue Fairy with a selection of classic Disney characters might help. Make it more prominent and tie in with the idea of starlight with some clouds and a hot air balloon or something and then go to Blue Fairy. Personally, I would welcome some sort of narrated introduction as in Spectromagic.

The spacing between floats with ninja-clad participants holding light poles or waving strings of lights just accentuates the darkness and delay between each float. Fill it with some smaller floated and spinners, add lights to costumes and add more performers. That would make the parade seem smoother and more continuous. Right now, to me, it is sort of like watching a community fireworks show where there is one explosion in the sky every few minutes and then you just sit and wait on the next one.

More characters! I think most people like seeing those that walk along with the floats. They add to the audience participation when they interact and it just completes the scene. So many they could choose from.

And for me, and I know this might be unpopular with some, the Enchanted float could easily be deleted and replaced. It just doesn’t offer much as a float itself, the character and story are not that well known and there are other films that could be featured that would be more successful here.

I think bookending it at the end with a smaller version of whatever idea they used for my initial suggestion for the start of the parade would give it a beginning, middle and end. Right now it just seems to start and then it is over.

I am sure many will disagree and I am certainly no expert in these things. Just sharing my thoughts

Monday?

What's the expectation for Monday, the official debut is Sunday the 20th.
I hope get a tweak here or there, like pan flying, but I think what's rolling out now is pretty much what they intend to offer. But fingers crossed for a couple surprises.
Sorry had dates mixed up but still my point was is there any additions or this is it… i see your answer so ty for that!

No
While the floats are absolutely stunning, there should be about 50% more of them. But as many have stated, the biggest issue is the lack of kinetic energy between the floats. The dancers costumes should have significantly more lights, and there should be characters in between the floats like the daytime parades.

I really wanted to love this and while we will see it when we go in August - this feels a little flat.

I literally heard that - it’s not an exaggeration.

It makes no sense to compare a Disney night parade with a Disney night parade???
The person I was watching the video with is not as knowledgeable as the people on these boards but is certainly more knowledgeable than most and asked of the Enchanted float, “Why do they have an Asian portraying Pocahontas?”

Weren’t there some outfits shown in blue with stars on them in the behind the scene footage; that weren’t shown tonight? Or have I overlooked them and they are in the parade?
Sadly those are the ballroom dancers. All that detail they went on and on about with "custom printed fabric with the swirl pattern" and hand applied crystals is all wasted on dark navy outfits in the dark. Why did they even bother?
