Calling Tokyo Monsters a “buzz Lightyear interactive type” is a disingenuous description at best.

Your list of “original attractions” becomes incredibly unimpressive right around 1998. That’s a TERRIBLE 27 year track record. The fact that you had to reach back almost three decades highlights the fact that WDW has been little more than an afterthought and a cash register for a very, very long time.

Test track, everest, Flight of passage, cosmic rewind terrible? If you say so.

Well, Test Track, which is significantly worse then the original it replaced, opened in ‘98, so what you’ve actually got there are three attractions. Everest and Flight are very good but I don’t think either are masterpieces and GotG is a really fun coaster and a flat out terrible themed Disney ride. And those are your three examples over 27 years.

This is the wrong thread for this, but I’ll again state the Monsters attraction in Tokyo isn’t that great. It’s just foreign and experienced less often by this user base. It’s not bad and a lot better than DCA, but it would be disregarded if it was twice cloned to the domestic parks. A half step up from Mermaid, a middle effort dark ride. It can easily be exceeded.

Radiator Springs Racers absolutely will not be exceeded by an inferior clone. So it’s a least a good thing they aren’t pretending and are building something different. I don’t know why this is being framed as bad - outside of all the other complaints that I think are actually framing this argument.

The argument which is perhaps just a fair complaint that neither ride are dark rides.

Did Planes and its sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue not have a theatrical debut? Despite being planned to release direct-to-video originally, can the film really be considered direct-to-video?

At least the first was theatrically released: I saw it with my father in law and kids. I believe the second was as well.

It’s probably in that middle ground of “DTV quality but nonetheless released in theaters”

It’s also much, much more appropriate to the strengths of the IP then is a coaster in a box. And hey, if it really is lacking, Disney could always expand and plus a new version.

Does anyone think there is any chance Cars: Road Rally is actually a better ride than Radiator Springs Racers?

WDW has all the incentive in the world now to build must see, must do attractions since they directly make money on ILL now. As popular as 7D is... the ILL price is always the lowest of the 5...

I even wonder if they would consider 3 ILL at MK

Monsters Inc is a story set in a deliberately familiar and even banal setting with fantastic characters that relies on humor and emotion. I mean, at this point why even use the Cars Franchise? They could base it on the old Disney vacation shorts with the Fab 5...and then the mountains could just be mountains....amd not hjave to look like automobile parts... Frontierland could still be Frontierland....and it would be a better fit overall for the park.

Far more of a moment rather than the movie, I’ll give you that. But there’s very few moments in IP where the characters are basically on a roller coaster. Especially a coaster in a box. It’s a very basic idea, but also there’s a reason this has been like one of the most armchaired ideas of the last 20 years.

Definitely has a chance to be better - or at least better to sum as I don't think will have any speed element like RSR so some might just view that part as making the whole thing better. But could be very creative and fun and different

ILL is an interesting question - definitely think of the two existing ones it would be 7DMT that would drop it for this one as then have one family ride with ILL and one more thrilling one with ILL. Plus I think people are motivated to buy ILL for Tron to reserve a time in the evening/when dark

I've said it in other threads, if they don't want to clone Ride and Go Seek to Walt Disney World, why not use the "flashlight tag dark ride" idea for a Muppets dark ride? Or a Zootopia dark ride, assuming they really want to put that in Hollywood Studios (I'd gladly take that over a clone of Shanghai's trackless Zootopia ride)?

Racers and Splash are the 2 best modern Disney rides in my book. When everything is working Rise is up there too (seeing the canons move again made me realize how good it can be).

Racers is pretty close to a masterpiece.

I agree, I think these are the three best attractions of modern Disney and the odds of Race Rally being that caliber is very slim. The biggest problem is that it is mostly outdoor. For it to compete with RSR it would need some substantial dark ride sections, which appears to be minimal (there may be a cave section, but it doesn't appear very long).

I think of the announced projects only Villains land has the potential to include that caliber of attraction, and that's mostly because we know next-to-nothing about it.

what's even more of a problem is that the money to build a dark ride on that level theoretically should no longer be an obstacle - they have more than enough, but instead prefer to phone it in within already bloated budgets on top of skimping on the necessary maintenance that factors into why the TDR rides are so admired.

I can guarantee you that New Fantasyland would've been a long-term success if they had given it the next Hunny Hunt (not in the literal sense as in a clone [especially since the existing Pooh ride is more than serviceable as a simple classic-style busbar], rather something else of the same or similar "above and beyond" scale, whether it be for Mermaid or a different IP). I can guarantee you that taking the time to build a Frozen ride from scratch would've given them an explosive success. I can guarantee you that Runaway Railway would've been a long-term success if it was up to par with what it replaced. need I go on?
