News Coco Boat Ride Coming to Disney California Adventure

We will have to wait and see, but I just can’t see how they could maintain enough space with the existing service road to allow guests to somehow reach the Coco ride, and have parades exiting or starting.

And do we even know if the CarsLand parade building is still used for parade storage? I thought that one was converted to other uses, and they solely use the paradise pier one for storage? I guess they could go back to the CarsLand one if needed?

Either parades have to relocate somehow, or that’s the casualty they aren’t willing to admit yet.

OBB, their most popular and profitable seasonal event, is highly dependent on a parade to sell it. I don’t see them abandoning a parade at DCA, unless they move OBB back to DL proper.

And they may just do that, at least during this project.

The event is do for an update anyway. Could they not create something else to help sell it? Like a special Halloween show in the Hyperion …

I’m not sure. The bigger question is, would they go through the expense to turn this into a much larger engineering project, or do they do this faster, easier, and cheaper?

Faster, easier meaning move the parade warehouse somewhere else? Or perhaps a smaller one only for cavalcades, Viva Navidad etc? Maybe. I have to admit I’m not as invested here as I don’t really care what they do with parades.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they permanently cut parades at DCA. They did the same thing with the three parks at WDW in the past two decades and designated Magic Kingdom as the only park with parades.

Although they did just create a new Pixar parade for DCA last year, so there are signs of intention to keep running parades there.

But agreed that the obvious problem here is OBB. The event seems too purpose built for DCA to easily move it back to DL and the parade is a key offering. They even ditched the Halloween WOC in favor of the parade.

They could just cancel Porto's and build a new parade warehouse behind Soarin and have Parades run from Mission BO to the gate by GC.

But we know they aren't going to kick Porto's. Now, if that was Earl of Sandwich's final location, they would certainly move them again. lol

One thought, what is keeping them from just moving any parade floats daily between Parks? Store any floats nightly in DL's parade storage and then move them in the morning before their use to DCA using the backstage roads. Assuming of course the second parade storage at DCA isn't actually being used for parade storage as intended, as I sort of expect it is.

And while I don't buy into Brickey's whole outline, there is really nothing that says Disney couldn't build a small parade storage into the Coco building. I mean didn't they did do just that with MMRR where they build a space for Entertainment into it to replace the one being torn down.

Yeah true but DL Forward is going to be expensive. Obviously if there is a cheaper more feasible alternative I expect them to do that.

I know it makes money but the whole Oogie Boogey event is a bit tired. Maybe they can bring back a revamped Halloween WOC with some other new offerings to make up for the loss of the parade. Honestly, the parade was just Ok for me but again, I’m not a huge parade guy.

OBB has always been underwhelming in its offerings for me. I'd love to see them do what they did in Hong Kong with Disney-quality haunted walk through experiences. But since the Disney fans gobble up the tickets immediately, I can't fault Disney for doing what they have been doing. If they can keep getting people fighting for the chance to spend more than a single day's ticket to be in DCA with a few trick or treat stations and fun lighting, then why should they bother investing to make it better? They don't need to attract folks like me.

The only evidence being presented to support it looking identical, as you say, is the coaster existing on the left side and a circular planter.

The coaster looks like that from nearly every angle & location you can see it from. But additionally the real coaster in that spot by the wooden parade gate has two layers of track, and the concept art only shows one.

The round planter is not the same as the real life one shown in the boardwalk pizza and pasta. In fact the shape of the planter isn't even the same.

So to me (and apparently to Hey Brickey), that concept art is not showing us the parade gate location but rather a completely different place behind the coaster.

Excellent point. Wherever that concept art is, it's gotta be from somewhere currently on stage, along the main path. They aren't going to hide this thing around a corner.

But maybe they do build it out more where the Pizza and Pasta place is, and they can keep some sort of parade gate and small road for floats accessible.

Good point. I think the entrance is at the parade gate using some of the Boardwalk Pizza area. I think with some tunnels/ bridges they could keep the parade path too if they eat enough into Paradise Gardens but it’s all a moot point anyway as I just don’t see them keeping the parade warehouse there.

That is a great point but I'd imagine that there's much more that we haven't seen yet. How does this tie in to the bridge across Disneyland Drive to the DLForward expansion that we've already been shown?

You'd have to walk through the Coco themed archway to get to all the other lands? That doesn't seem like the answer either.

I think Brickey's idea is that the bridge to DCA Forward would pass right next to Coco, so it would be a heavily trafficked area in the future.

But yeah for now it would be odd, unless they retheme the pizza and pasta place, which they could.

I think Simba lot is so far off they re probably not even considering that right now.

I do think the Simba lot is years away from being used for expansion, but I also think any future builds from here on out in both parks will be purpose built with the DLForward expansion in mind. Especially a project like Coco that's taking place right where the bridge to the expansion is meant to be.

Another example is any project in the Pooh/Hungry Bear area would be purpose built with access to the expansion in mind.

It’s possible but the company hasn’t shown me that level of foresight and planning in a while. What if Simba never happens or doesn’t happen for 15-20 years and you have the entrance to the attraction hidden for a decade +?
