I think the lack of a passionate fandom for the Avatar IP actually benefits Pandora, it almost feels like old “concept based” Disney rather than new “IP based” Disney, I think it’s a large part of the reason that Pandora is universally praised while Galaxies Edge, which is equal in detail and execution, is seen by many as a miss. GE is amazing but falls short of the bar set by passionate Star Wars fans, Pandora never had that unattainable bar to begin with.

It also doesn't help that Galaxy's Edge supposedly takes place between the two least popular Star Wars films.

Toy Story and Frozen are INSANELY safe, Monsters is VERY safe. Toy Story and Frozen are literal lay ups and like I already said HAVE ATTRACTIONS. In fact every single Pixar movie that has gotten a sequel recently in my knowledge has an attraction somewhere or is getting one so I fail to see your point. Disney finds Pixar very profitable. Simple as that.

Monsters is not an exception and I almost guarantee that the discussion of the door coaster was pitched again as part of the show's run time. I've recently been able to speak with an imagineer who worked on stuff like this and they said that often times with any new show, Disney likes hearing out an attraction/ride/SYNERGY idea of how to further the IP. Hell even Gravity Falls got an attraction pitch. Muppets got one. And I know quite a few others that got one but were left on the cutting room floor.

If they were smart they would have expanded Pixar Place and added the door coaster there. Instead they got rid of Pixar Place built the god-awful ugly Toy Story Land and decided that instead of having Pixar IP all in the same area they would build whole lands constrained to one movie or series of movies.

I love Monsters Inc. I've wanted a Door Coaster for most of my life. My mom, who thinks I'm too obsessed with theme parks (she's probably right...), loves Monsters Inc as well, and this is the one theme park desire I've ever heard her express—and they're finally doing it! I don't mind them doing this to placate fans and put in another family attraction and coaster.

What I hate, hate, HATE is that they're putting MuppetVision on the shelf for it. I would have literally no problem with any of this if they would just announce that MuppetVision will be entering the Sunset Showcase Theatre when the Villains sideshow concludes its run. I would finally have a project I can fully support.

As it is, I'm happy Monsters Inc is finally getting a theme park land to (hopefully) be proud of, but I'm enormously nervous about the future of MuppetVision. If MV3D doesn't show up in a physical location again, this Monsters Inc land will NOT have been worth it.

And for that reason, it was a stupid idea.

If I may briefly address the Avatar question (at the risk of getting too far off topic), Avatar at DCA will not be successful BECAUSE it is themed to the Avatar IP. They could make a thrilling dinosaurs-themed boat ride with majestic mountains and forests and enchanting vistas, and it would still be successful because it's NEW. NEW ADDITIONS are almost always more successful than what they replace, at least initally, and that's all that really matters until they add something else new in another corner of the park. (Beastly Kingdom would have been just as successful as Avatar, and been truer to the original theme of Animal Kingdom.)

Even if they were to build a replica of Monstropolis for that corner of DCA, it would be just as successful as Avatar.

you are acting as though Disney doesn't care about theming anymore. Where would you get a crazy idea like that? We all know Pandora is in California just like Mexico is for the Coco ride.

I definitely prefer Pandora, though Galaxy’s Edge beats it on scale.
