DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

This is where my thought process is as well, the new art looks nice and more fleshed out etc, but what about details, is this going to be a bland extension of the generic tap house and ugly apartment facade across the way, or have sights and sounds that really make it Monstropolis. They removed the little cars from the art among other things, yes the fountain looks so much better, but I hope there are little details a plenty to take in.

I expect little nods to the movies like
Monsters in windows/tv screens, etc. I expect a lot of inspiration from Zootopia, honestly. Despite what some may say I don’t see Disney building Zootopia in AC with it being another cityscape brick building neighborhood with interesting characters added to it. Seems too similar.

With Toy Story and Monsters, I kinda hope AC goes to a live action property. Maybe something Marvel they can use.

It’s very evident you don’t understand the appeal or popularity or why a certain generation cares so much about it. But your lack of understanding of it doesn’t make it false. Perhaps its just something that exists outside of your bubble. And that is fine! I don’t really expect anyone who isn’t plugged into Gen Z culture to know what all is going on there. But to continuously cast doubt on things that have heaps of proof (seriously, it would not take much work to explore online and see how alive the IP is) simply because you’re personally mad about Muppets going just makes so many of your points unworthy of engaging with.

You're doing with this what you do all over this forum. You're mad about something Disney has done so you jump into every thread to bully your way through a subject so that anyone who disagrees with you stops talking. You are not open to or interested in anyone presenting you with anything that disturbs your predetermined feelings, as evidenced by the way you either have ignored the multiple different people in here telling you about the endurance of the IP or belittled them when you have engaged with them.

All you do is make posts that imply (or directly say at times) that anyone who disagrees with your take on something is either 1) stupid, 2) a Disney shill, 3) in denial, or some combination of the three.

I have on multiple occasions now tried to engage with you in good faith and speak about things from a point of view that you maybe aren't privy to given that you're just not a part of the cultural group that a certain subject may pertain to. But you are not interested in a conversation. You just want to jackhammer your point over and over and make the folks who dont agree with you shut up.

So Im asking you very kindly and very directly to please stop engaging with me on this subject or any other until you're ready to have an actual conversation instead of the stuff you're doing now.

Yep. On both coasts. Just as I have experienced HISTA and TTBAB on both coasts as well. Muppets is above Captain EO, Philharmagic, and maybe even T2 at Universal. It wins the bronze for me at the current moment.

Bean Bunny and Waldo are terrible characters, so that doesn't help. I really hate 3D movies that present the movie as a movie rather than a 3-D element of the world we are in. And I'm a sucker for in-house effects like the spiders, the fog, hopper, the bugs under your seat, etc. Plus, a much better-looking theatre and facade.

Requesting evidence is neither unreasonable nor an attack.

I have never once tried to shut down debate. I state my opinions and others are free to state their own. It is not my intention to bully you or anyone else and I have never called anyone a shill.

You are interpreting disagreement as a personal attack and y attribute disagreement to the ignorance of others. You are clearly passionate about the Monsters property but you accuse others of blindness based on their cultural preferences without considering your own. We’re all in bubbles, we just have to try and see out of our own.

If you have problems with specific things I have said, feel free to criticize or discuss them. However, try to avoid sweeping statements that not only don’t single out individual statements but attribute things to me I have never said.

Monsters is a great movie. I also think the sequel is very, very good. It is clearly a popular IP. However, if you want to claim the IP is a monumental cultural touchstone, I’ll continue to want to see evidence rather then anecdotes and personal feelings.

It doesn’t. It functions as a TV spin-off that made very little cultural impression.

I don’t think it made a huge impression either but the interesting thing is the 2nd season leaves a cliffhanger that could potentially be resolved in a yet to be announced official monsters inc 3. (Even if I think it might be somewhat unnecessary)

I still dread the day when it's confirmed that the whole coaster isn't fitting in the Monsters Inc building but instead will need a much wider show building painted with blue 'sky'. Why not just build a larger MI building?! That would even make it more film-accurate!

That's more that Harry Potter ($7.11 billion), Spiderman ($14.526 billion), and Looney tunes ($16.777 billion).

I'm sure some of the numbers are outdated... but its a top 20 merchandising franchise of all time even at the 19 billion number.

As I stated, almost $17 billion of the $19 billion in merchandise revenue from that franchise number is pre-2015 (the rest is box office and home video revenue). That's not "a HUGE franchise" that resonates with today's young boys to the tune of billions in annual merchandising revenue. If it's generating $200 million in merchandising revenue now versus the $2 billion it generated in 2013, is it really "HUGE", like at least one person seems to want everyone to believe?

So no, $19 billion is not enough for me, because all of that was generated before 2017. That's like arguing "The Chicago Bulls have the most NBA jersey sales ever, so therefore they are a HUGE franchise!" but 90% of that came from 1985-1998. How is that relevant to decisions being made in the 2020's?

If we're being so for real.... I know they *mentioned* stage show. And that could mean anything, I guess. But this should stay a 3D show VERY similar to how Muppet*Vision 3D was..

My bit of armchair imagineering: We are not the audience-we are the show. When we sit, we are facing (through the "screen") an audience of monsters gathered to "Meet the Humans." The show could be a combo Muppetvision style 3-D with in theatre effects paired with an expansion on the Laugh Floor concept interactivity.

- Chef animatronic
- cannon effects/breaking parts of the theater
- smoke effects
- bubbles
- physical arrows getting stuck to the balcony Bean is in?

Obviously you can prefer ITTBAB but think you are discounting the physical elements in MV3D

An Easter egg to those in the know. Wouldn't have to be anything substantial, static figures even. But, it'd be a cute little setup. Not sure where they could put the powerline poles though and have it make sense thematically.

Imagine if they had some space nearby where this all could have gone. But why pay maintenance for something they can’t further monetise?

Why pay for maintenance for a show I used to have to wait multiple cycles to see and implement a pre-show strategy for optimal seats, and for decades have been able to pretty much walk in and sit where I want? And it was maintained, my last visit, it never looked so good with the digital projection and all effects working. I love and miss muppets, but numbers matter.

I hold a dream Journey to Imagination will return to its former glory, but I also went from waiting in a line that started in front of the Land Pavilion to a walk-on.

I'd mentioned here how excited I was on my last trip to finally see the original Country Bears show as I'd actually seen Vacation Hoedown more often due to the timing of my trips. The theater was empty and outside was a torrential rainstorm that had most attractions closed. (Tiki was packed thankfully)

The "blessing of size" is a tricky issue. The parks, hotels, the entire WDW infrastructure is now old enough that there is a constant need to not only maintain and refresh, but practically rebuild. I can see the want to stay within the boundaries of what's already built, especially living though multiple unfortunate tourist ups and downs that threaten the industry itself.

4. There is a show and it is terrible (10%)

My anecdotal evidence of Muppetvision opinions
- My family did not like DCA Muppetvision
- No one in my CP friend group ever wanted to do Muppetvision with me
- I took a friend who had never done Muppetvision during my Epic visit three weeks ago and she reacted “well, that was… something”

I love Muppetvision. I’d prefer it never left. But is our echochamber thicker than we think? If it was truly a strong performer, would Disney have gotten rid of it?
