I had the pleasure of experiencing Epic Universe this past Sunday. It is indeed a triumph.

I want to start by responding to those here who have said “Universal went 90% of the way but didn’t go the last 10%.” Universal did indeed go the last 10%. The level of detail in each land of this park is astounding. Each land is richly adorned with layers of details. Sure, there are some sightline issues but they can be remedied in due course. No park is perfect (not even TDS) as we are imperfect creatures in a fallen world. Given that, this park is amazing and is worth your time and money to visit.

We stayed at Stella Nova and had early admission. Arriving around 9:40 am, we entered Super Nintendo Land around 10:10 am. We immediately went to Donkey Kong and were on it within 45 minutes. For that wait, it is a great ride with a decent queue line. Either knock it out first or do it in the evening as the crowds start to leave. Yoshi’s Adventure was next and it was a short wait. I love this ride. It’s a great C-ticket.

After lunch at the Toad cafe we wandered over to Darkmoor for Monsters Unchained. The mansion looming in the distance acts as a perfect weenie, drawing you into the land. The queue is well done and the pre shows are excellent. The ride itself is fantastic. I will say, it is better the more times you ride it. I rode it twice (second time later in the evening and there was no wait) and noticed many new details the second time around. It is easily a top three attraction in Orlando (including WDW).

Next, we walked past the Helios Grand on a very beautiful pathway to the Harry Potter area. Unfortunately, we did not get a virtual queue for the ride, but we did enjoy the Arcanus show. The restaurants in this land and throughout the park are stunning, attractions in and of themselves. The food is also well done and reasonably priced compared to other special event food.

From there we trekked over to the HTTYD area. This land is my favorite. There is just so much detail. Animated figures everywhere give the land life. While we did not see the show, I heard great things from my parents who saw it on Monday. My wife and I only went Sunday. While some poor sight lines do pop up, they are peripheral issues that do not majorly detract from the overall experience. That’s because the substance of the land itself is so good. The rollercoaster here was very well done and enjoyable. The placement of the lockers for this ride and MU make them very easy to use, unlike at IoA and USF. The standout here is Fyre Drill. This ride is a blast. It’s actually the most fun ride at the park. Avoiding getting soaked and soaking others was so much fun!! Truly enjoyed it.

We had dinner at the Atlantic restaurant. The filet was reasonably priced at $40 with a fried potato thingy. Very good. The theming of the restaurant is superb. There are fish on a track above you which are supposed to move and light up. They were lit up but not moving (yet). The columns, woodwork, glass work, etc make for a very elegant experience with an unparalleled view of the park.

We closed our day by walking on to Mario Kart, which is an excellent ride if you pay attention to the pre show and with our second ride on MU.

Overall, wow! Great experience and well worth the price.

I’m sorry but when you can see trucks driving by from the lowest point of a coaster that points you straight at the fence, have the carnival looking end of Werewolf, the multiple other sight line issues etc that are not easily fixed and will most likely not be with universals other track record, it’s fair to say they didn’t go the 10%

The biggest lesson WDI & Disney executives can take from Epic is the level of quality/investment made at each quick service location at Epic Universe. They are all well-themed and amazing environments to relax in. A/C, high quality theming, and plenty of seating. While I have issues with UOR's operations, the environments Universal Creative have created are fantastic, and got me thinking as to what quick service locations at the parks are well-themed environments that are interesting (excluding food quality).

MK (3) - Pecos Bill (a stretch), Village Haus & Columbia (Cosmic Ray's is looking rough lately, hopefully refurb happens sooner than later)
Epcot - surprisingly none, all outdoor seating or mall-like ambience (Connections, Sunshine Seasons)
Hollywood Studios (1) - Docking Bay
Animal Kingdom (2) - Flame Tree (outdoor though) & Satu'li

USF (1) - Leaky Cauldron
IOA (3) - 3 Broomsticks, Thunder Falls, Circus McGurkus
Epic (8) - Toadstool, Das Stakehaus, Pizza Moon, Oak & Star, Das Stakehaus, Cafe L'Air, Mead Hall, Meteor Astropub

Restaurantosaurus would deserve a spot on this list if it didn't just close. I'd probably put Backlot Express on here too, and maybe even ABC Commissary (it still has some nice Art Deco touches).

Disney created one, (well, mixed use) that was super successful out of the gate, and instead of learning the lesson of “creating better QS restaurants = win for Disney and guests,” they turned it into a prix fixe with decreased food quality. We are probably so far away from people remembering 2012 BoG lunch options, because it got so slammed. In an alternate universe, there is a version of WDW where there are more of these. Satu’li and Docking Bay have their moments, but there should have been a bigger restaurant refreshment program.

You didn’t miss much. The fountain “show” isn’t anything worth waiting around for.
I think we may be interested in judging different things, as I think we’re in different age groups and have different needs for the last hour or two of our theme park day. On our speed walk bag to the Ministry, we saw several groups sitting on the terraces, just hanging out. A potential example of “putting the park back in theme park.” I am less interested in the specifics of the show, and more about the ambiance. I don’t need Illuminations or even Rivers of Light. More just “something happening,” while you are worn out, but not yet wanting to go home. Enjoying a drink or a snack, listening to pleasant music, etc. That sort of thing.

Go and enjoy. You're the perfect candidate for Epic. If the 19th weren't the final day of previews, I would say prioritize a Monday over a Friday any week of the year. I would probably still give a Monday priority
Went with the 19th. Honestly, happy just to take it all on. If I get to just walk through Nintendo, Monsters, HTTYD and Minstery it will be the perfect day! Bonus if I get to ride Monsters

There isn’t a nighttime spectacular?

Did I completely miss something? I thought we were in for a fountains, music, fireworks type ordeal.

Is it just one time affair or more like a tree of life awakening thing.

I’ve heard from friends who work there that there will be a nighttime show with fireworks. I don’t think they're crazy as it’s in the concept art for the park.

There was a nice Test. Whether it was for Opening or a Nighttime Spectacular, we don't know. Not giving EU it's due Nighttime Hours and Not announcing a Nighttime Spectacular is Not Good!!!!

Yes. 100% would not have these things and if Disney had them in an otherwise perfect park I would say they went 90% too.

Again, yes let’s talk about all the great things about Epic, but let’s not handwave away legitimate criticisms either.

I’m gonna bang the drum for Katsura Grill over in the back of the Japan Pavilion while admitting that the inside is not the selling point of the restaurant, the outdoor seating in a fairly quiet and very relaxed and pretty area of the park is. (plus the food is great, but as you said food quality is put aside) the inside fits the theme of a quaint Japanese restaurant even if it is an understated theme.

I would add Regal eagle, Katsura Grill, Hacienda, Kringla, and Boulangerie at Epcot plus Yak and yeti CS, harambe market and woodys

It only occurs once a night. . There are no fireworks or at least there were not any on my visit. There was also a sad lack of flying dragons.

I’m not really sure what us being In different age groups has to do with anything. In addition I personally find the “putting the park back in theme park” saying kind of misleading when the whole area suffers from a similar problem as world celebration where due to lack of trees lush greenery the whole area feels very hot and overly depressing.
