The Land of Narnia - Disney's Hollywood Studios
Much like the Door Coaster and Monstropolis, Disney has deferred using their Narnia connection in any meaningful way in the theme parks (Journey into Narnia definitely does NOT count), but this has been corrected (20 yrs later) with their replacement of Animation Courtyard with the Land of Narnia expansion. In typical modern-Disney fashion, the "land" consists of an E-Ticket (A thrilling Sleigh ride chase through the events of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe) and a restaurant (themed to the Beaver's Dam House and quite cozy). The best part of the land is the Professor's Manor House, which serves as the gateway to the land (with a wide-open Wardrobe to walk through—the Narnians wanted to make their world more accessible), but on its second floor (which takes over the Disney Jr. Live On Stage) also has fantastic animated dioramas that tell the stories of the other books in the series.

BONUS: I chose the Narnia books for this because I absolutely love them (and I wish I could handcraft the dioramas I included in my pitch); Lewis is so skilled at creating an allegorical story that can be easily understood by young readers in a way that LOTR (which I also love) does not.

MOOMINVALLEY

Fuji-Q Highland translates the world of Tove Jansson’s Moomin series to three-dimensional life in this peaceful, accessible-to-all-ages land. Parkgoers can meet the Moomins in their Moominhouse, go for a indoor-outdoor boat ride cruise down the streams of the valley, and hike up the Lonely Mountains for an encounter with the company-seeking Groke.

One of my favorite book series is The Railway Series by the Rev. W. Awdry, which I would’ve based my land on (appropriately for this season, given who was a narrator on its TV adaptation)...had I not already done it last season.

The Land of Nursery Crimes
The zany fantasy works of English writer Jasper Fforde come to life in a new land at Efteling Park–The Land of Nursery Crimes. Jack Spratt is an investigator of the Nursery Crime Department looking into questions like “Who goosed Mother Goose?” and “Why is there a fourth bear (besides Papa, Mama, and Baby)?” There are audio and visual clues around the land but in the trackless dark ride “The Big Over Easy”, guests will solve the question of “Who killed Humpty Dumpty?” from the original book in the Nursery Crimes series.
Humpty.jpg

Bonus: Although not technically part of the same series, Fforde’s “Shades of Grey” (yes, a poorly worded book due to the more famous problematic book/movie) that portrays a land where one’s social standing is based on what colors they see is fun and original.

DISCWORLD: UNSEEN UNIVERSITY
1734479142598.png

Serving as a partial parody and homage to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, this Alton Towers land focuses on the wizards of Discworld in a open ended indoor land with a focus on roleplaying and live comedy in contrast to other IP lands. The E-Ticket attractions are a magic show/sports show focused on a European Football/Soccer match between the wizards where any move is legal, and a dark ride exploring the mean streets of Ankh Morpork guided by the danger prone and neurotic Rincewind. This IP may be a bit more niche to American audiences than others but the focus on classic dry British comedy should make its appeal universal to locals as well as tourists.

Bonus: I struggled with what to nominate so Discworld appealed to me as something untapped not just in theme parks but overall recognition, but its humor, heart, and wonder are all highly reccomended by myself.

Loving all the entries so far!

Just realized I forgot to update the thread header with the Track name and due date in case someone didn't get a notification and only caught the thread names. I've gone ahead and pushed the due date out to tomorrow evening instead.

If you've already submitted and want to make any tweaks before tomorrow night, feel free.

Arthur's Elwood City
View attachment 830314
This new addition to Six Flags New England in Boston, Massachusetts allows visitors to explore the city that Arthur Read, star of Marc Brown's iconic Arthur books (and the TV series that adapted them!), and his friends call home. You can sing along to such songs as "Library Card", "Leftovers Goulash", and "Just a Little Homework Tonight" in Arthur's Sort of Live Music Festival (a multimedia 3D show a la MuppetVision 3D), grab a bite to eat at The Sugar Bowl, or compete in a go-kart race alongside Arthur, Buster, Francine, and the gang in the Elwood City 500 (similar to the Tomorrowland Speedway). It's always a wonderful kind of day in Arthur's Elwood City!

BONUS: I like the Geronimo Stilton books, you never see anybody talk about those.

Out the gate with a new park this season in Six Flags New England. Fantastic. Awesome start this round with a great idea for a kid’s area that so easily slots into this park. I know very little about the Arthur series beyond the snippets of the TV series I’ve seen pop up, but with its made-up locale based on the Boston area, it is such a great connection for the park. I do not know if this would replace Looney Tunes or Kidzopolis, but either way it sounds like a really nice thematic upgrade for the park and the rides these areas offer. An easy idea to see fit into an amusement/theme park, but one that is a perfect fit by all accounts. I can imagine all sorts of little extras with the Elwood City map and more that would make for a fun imagineering side project if you ever fleshed it out.

Bonus (+1) – embarrassed to admit not knowing of this series after seeing the number of copies sold. I am intrigued though to check them out from a knowledge perspective. Thanks for sharing!

Plainview
View attachment 830375
Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in the near future is Plainview, themed to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Guests can watch a live performance of Rodrick's band Loded Diper, ride the Cranium Shaker (which is just a zipper flat ride), and ride Greg's Wimpy Journey, a dark ride loosely based on the first book. Guests can also eat at Corny's and buy things from the books, including a figure of the Cheese and comic strips like Zoo-Wee Mama!

Bonus: In case you don’t know, the Wimpy Kid books have been one of my favorite book series of all time ever since I was a kid, even though the newer books aren’t as good as the older ones.

Ah, the good ol Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Another solid kids/family land idea that honestly evokes memories of the Back Lot Tour with you placing this at Hollywood Studios. Not sure why, but maybe picturing the land with the school, streets, and neighborhood as a layout. I honestly am ok with Toy Story Land, more so if there were even more simple things to do, but the park could easily use the flat and dark rides your pitch offers. Plainview the name itself does not sound exciting for obvious reasons, but I am sure many would love the chance for a simple walkthrough this area would offer. A nice way to complement the kids/family offerings in the park.

The Land of Oz
MnU4yqSU5nnj5PPOCHuuWseSDoHl7S.jpg

Many miles east of nowhere lies The Land of Oz, an enchanting land that has appeared in northern Hollywood Studios (sorry Fantasmic fans), based on L. Frank Baum's fourteen books. Travel down the yellow brick road to browse the shops of Munchkin Village, meet Ozian heroes within the dazzling Emerald City, and fly through the Haunted Forest in the clutches of flying monkeys. The land's major e-ticket is Dorothy's Adventures in Oz, an advanced dark ride as Dorothy and friends prepare to celebrate Princess Ozma's birthday, but wicked witches, flying monkeys, Wheelers, and Nomes threaten to crash the party.

Oz makes its return this season, but perfectly happy to see it. Though immediate negative points for removing Fantasmic (j/k…..or am I?). In all serious, that location sets up perfectly with the walk from Sunset aligning perfectly for your Yellow Brick Road entry. As much as I would look forward to the Emerald City, I would probably be most intrigued by the Haunted Forest. With both though, and the land of Oz, a number of good contrasting locales with which to frame a really nice experience. I would be insanely curious to see this actually translated in real life and how a more vibrant, almost cartoony aesthetic might look versus a more real-world representation depending on the direction chosen. Either way, a very grandiose set up that would be a great add to the park’s variety and how its theme is shaken out.

Bonus points for wiping out Animation Courtyard, but I digress. An extremely popular book series makes perfect sense, and I was somewhat ok with the few films that were done, though I would love to see them rebooted and give the entire series a try. That said, Narnia is a popular idea for a theme park land for good reason. There are so many characters and locations to pull from that would slot nicely into a Disney theme park aesthetic. A sleigh ride chase sounds like a blast and hopefully longer than that pretty, but short thing they put in Hong Kong. I would love to see this built event more than just the one ride, restaurant, and diorama, but this would be a nice start. I’d be really curious to see the transition into that area with Professor’s Manor from the park’s hub, but easily an improvement on what’s there.

Bonus (+1) – already said it, but good books!

What a park pull with Fuji-Q Highland! I am neither familiar with the park nor the book series that inspired your prompt, but love getting exposed to both. Putting a book series from a Finnish author in Japan seems off at first glance but researching further I can see why these characters could become popular overseas. With an early 1990s Dutch Japanese TV series and a park inspired from the books, there was clearly interest. I assume this would be an expansion and not replace Thomas Land, but a nice add to the park seeing all of the thrill attractions they’ve got. A really nice exploratory type of IP based on the map and your coaster with a really great natural backdrop for the park already there.

Nursery Crimes. What a great book series title and a downright awesome idea to slot this into Efteling along with its existing Fairytale Forest. With Danse Macabre recently opening, definitely ties into a little darker area but it’s a great juxtaposition to the everyday fairytale. I am laughing seeing the titles of some of these books. Like the idea that you’ve made the land/area a bit of a mystery with the visual and audio clues but leaving the attraction to do the heavy lifting solving the crime. I’d love to see this expanded upon with maybe another attraction, show or formal walk-through adventure, but again a nice fit in the park. Curious if Efteling would tackle another trackless in the park with Symbolica already there but I would look forward to any ride type using these stories.

Bonus (+1) Glad you explained the “poorly worded book” title, but such an interesting set up for the book.

On to DiscWorld and Alton Towers. Another inventive idea here and loving it. Again, learning more and more with each pitch. A fun idea for Alton Towers to go the parody route and capitalize a bit on the Harry Potter genre. Going indoors makes a good deal of sense for obvious reasons weather wise, but from what I gather about the books, a more ideal way to pull of theming, etc. Not knowing anything about the books, you capitalize on your idea of parody/homage to Harry Potter with a “sporting event’ and wizards. A show and dark ride added to Alton would both be nice additions to the park. Regardless of this being a niche IP, as many have done this round, seemingly found a great park with which to fit a book series that would appeal to the park’s guests.

AWARDS
In my eyes, this was an insanely good round of entries (they've all been good), but I thought was a really nice job of ideas fitting so well into various parks, and at the same time capturing the stories they were based on. Of course, it made it that much more difficult to pick any rankings whatsoever.

Track 9
I Feel Fine

We are getting incredibly close to the end of this long and winding road, but we jump back a couple of years this track to 1964. Released towards the end of the year, the single I Feel Fine ended up being one of the highest selling singles of the 1960's, hitting number 1 for multiple weeks on multiple charts. Written by John Lennon, the song simply lets us know that in this relationship, our subject feels pretty fine, as long as their partner is along for the ride. Simple lyrics, but no truer words if you've ever been in love. Take a listen.

We all have one in the theme park world (or at least one). That one ride or attraction. The one that no matter what, as long as we get to ride or visit it on our next trip, the world is right. The stars have aligned. That is, until that ride is gone, and we are certainly not fine. Far from it.

Resurrect one of your favorite rides or attractions that no longer exists. This could be your first kiddie coaster that you rode at the age of 5, a dazzling temporary show, or a quaint dark ride that showed its age but was beloved for it. There's only one caveat, when it returns, major changes are in store. Ensure that you'll still feel fine about that love.

-Rules-

  • When resurrecting your love, it should come back as a new experience and new attraction type. Meaning that dark ride you loved, if it comes back, could come back as a coaster, log flume, show, or whatever you can dream up. Or that extinct, intense coaster will have to resume its new life as something a little less extreme, perhaps as a flat ride, dark ride, etc.
  • Any permanently closed ride, attraction, show, etc. from any theme/amusement park around the world is fair game
  • You may use between 1 to 3 sentences and up to 1 image.
  • No AI generated artwork, writing, or assistance in the brainstorming process is allowed
-Deadline-
This project is due on Thursday, December 26th at 11:59 PM Disneyland Time
(2:59 AM WDW Time)

-Tips-

K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please, let your imagination soar!

- Judging Criteria -
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

BONUS: No bonus this track, just hope everyone enjoys their holidays!

Sorry for the multiple alerts today, giving you a heads up on the remainder of the Season...

I'd hoped to cap the season off by New Year's Day, but my timing around Thanksgiving threw things off a bit. I hadn't initially planned on doing any sort of bonus/catch up round, but with the current framework of the season, I am planning to do that after Track 9 closes next week.

If you missed a track this season, or multiple, that will be your chance for a free point per submission of any missed prompts (no bonus entries/points with each prompt on the catchup round). This will enable some to get back in the game (or take a stab at a prompt for fun) so to speak if desired but still allow our consistent challengers to be rewarded for time and consistency. It also gives you a head start on that round as it will be a short one. Who knows though, a win Track 9 and 10 could be huge for someone!

Track 10, our finale and last hit will drop right after as we'll crown this season's winner!

Splash Mountain returns - but instead of a log flume, it's a gentle boat ride through the wonderful stories of Brer Rabbit and his fellow critters. The queue acts as a mini-museum explaining the characters' origins in African-American folklore, helping to further distance the characters and attraction from Song of the South, before guests jump aboard their boats and head off to see if this time, Brer Fox and Brer Bear just might succeed in catching Brer Rabbit (spoiler alert: they don't). Oh, and some of the America Sings animatronics from Disneyland's version of Splash Mountain have been brought out the archives (assuming they weren't all trashed) and have a new home in this attraction.

The (in)famous Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, once the tallest coaster in the world, returns (sort of), as a children’s log flume? Over at the Golden Kingdom area, near the spot where Ka's replacement will be located, younger guests can ride a small log flume (think the kiddie log flumes at Busch Gardens) with one 10 foot tall hill and drop, designed to mimic the original coaster, only 46 times smaller. There's even a small section of track from the former coaster (provided it isn't entirely scrapped) sitting next to the flume!

Body Wars: Immuno-Compromised!
Body Wars is BACK, and now guests have joined the new ISDF (Immune System Defense Force) to defend the body against viral villainy in a Universal-MIB-style shooting attraction with full dimensional sets and special effects! Using high-tech projection mapping, physical sets and effects, and cutting-edge animatronics (in shapes never represented before, such as viruses and body organs), guests glide through the blood vessels armed with antibody blasters and tackle a large-scale infection (a particularly poignant topic for many in the post-COVID era). Body Wars: Immuno-Compromised brings IP-free edu-tainment back to Epcot with a high-capacity, family-friendly attraction that signals a return to Epcot's founding principles (yeah, right...they'd probably just purchase the rights to Osmosis Jones...).

Ant Man Adventure Through Inner Space

The latest addition to Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus is a throwback to the original Tomorrowland omnimover, but this time presented as a thrilling simulator based attraction. Pym Technologies has developed a new submarine style vehicle powered by Pym particles, and they’ve set up an exhibit to demonstrate the tech to the visitors of the campus, and educate them on the wonders of inner space. The ride begins calmly, with homages to the previous iteration as we travel past snowflakes and water droplets, but as always, “something goes wrong”, the ride becomes more thrilling, and Ant Man and the Wasp arrive to save us from danger.

(I hope it’s ok to join even though it’s so close to the end of the competition! I just recently meandered back to the Imagineering side of the forums and saw the prompt and inspiration struck)

Mr. Toad’s Motor Mania

N018028_2050jan01_toad-hall-resrtaurant_16-9.jpg
Out in the open countryside of eastern Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, a familiar face has moved back in for his much-requested return...

Entering Toad Hall, guests learn that Mr. Toad’s reckless motor mania has landed him in jail again, and only they can help him break out - on a rollicking race against time that sends them on a crash course down the streets of London, nearly colliding head-on with an oncoming train, dashing through the countryside, and weaving through the lush and labyrinthine Wild Woods. A simultaneously scaled-down and enhanced slot car system that allows the motorcars to skid and spin out (not unlike Dynamic Attractions’ Duel Power Coaster), plus loads of on-ride effects, will make this a truly wild ride for the ages!

Rather than being a show as the previous incarnation was, this reimagining of an underrated Epcot classic is a dark ride taking guests on a tour of the body's important ballet of functions from brain to foot, all hosted by General Knowledge and Buzzy as well as other newly created characters to show the audience to respect and give the body the care it deserves properly.

Tot Town: Grown Up at Valleyfair (MN)

From 1981 to 1999, children would access the ValleyFair's island "Tot Town" (including a small water raft ride that could host about 5 kids at a time) by way of a suspension bridge. Now Valleyfair has added a family raft ride (the rafts are in the shape of coconuts) that allows shooting other rafts with water while moving around a giant monkey king (because monkeys like coconuts). On-looking guests can also shoot water at the riders.
