Good morning and happy zen day. My today will hopefully be all about enjoyment and no rushing. I've get pinto beans in the pressure cooker for Chinese inspired "meatballs to go with the "fried" rice and stir "fried" veggies for dinner, I have black eyed peas soaking for rice and peas with coconut milk and Caribbean spice mix(my own) for the boys, I did some nice relaxing yoga, and I have fabric prewashed and paper for drafting a pattern for shorts and I am going to take a nice warm bath with my Relaxation bath bomb from Basin. Other than the bath what gets done gets done. I may even take a nap and live on chamomile tea.:joyfull:

If only the public could be educated to the idea that if there is ice or snow on the highway it doesn't mean that you drive faster so you can get home quicker. It seldom works out that way. Or that 4 wheel drive won't mean you are invincible.

Ha ha ha!! I know, it's just so basic and I'm always amazed at the number of people who have no common sense about it.

Reminds me of a drive that hubs and I had up on the Maine Pike about 15 years ago. It was a big snowstorm and there we were in our old 1997 Ford Escort, going maybe 25-30 mph (tops) in the right-hand lane. Meanwhile, these fools in (mostly) SUVs were whizzing by us at 60--in a blizzard . . . :cautious:

Do you have any idea of how many SUVs (for the most part--a few cars, too), ended up in the side ditches??!! We must have passed at least 25 of them along a 40-mile stretch. Hate to say it, but we laughed every time we saw that (these were shallow, side of the highway ditches--no one hurt or anything).

We just kept plugging along at a reasonable pace for the weather conditions, and never ended up in a ditch!! :p (And oh, because of these fools, the State Troopers ended up shutting down (for a few hours) a long stretch of 95, because of all the idiots who could not drive properly on the highway!!)

So our four to seven inches of snow did not happen. It rained here most of the evening, turned to snow about 9 p.m. Then that only lasted a couple of hours then the rest of the night it was light sleet and freezing rain. There is less than a half inch of sleet and ice covering everything, so you can't get anywhere.
The roads are just a slick sheet of sleet and ice.
We are sorta in the transition area for this time. Some snow north of us, sleet and ice for us and then mostly rain to the south. Weather people really had it wrong for us. The sleet and ice is much worse than snow.
It is in the 20s and windy now, so the road conditions will remain crappy for awhile.
Can't even make a snowball. Maybe next time.

I'm sorry to hear that! As much as I hate snow better that than ice. Be safe and stay inside.

Hello-

I did workout last night. I just started dinner after I showered and forgot to check in. :)

It was from a DVD I haven't used in years. I thought it was a longer workout, but it clocked in at 35 minutes. Oops. Better than nothing.

It is snowing here. We're supposed get 2-5 inches. I guess they don't salt the roads here. Whenever there is snow in the forecast back home, the trucks are out salting the roads here to keep them clear.

In 2011, a blizzard came though Chicago. At the time, I was in grad school and I lived 35 miles away. THEY DID NOT CANCEL CLASSES. There were high winds and poor visibility from the snow coming down sideways. I stayed home and emailed my professors to tell them I would not be attending classes. Most of them had the nerve to tell me they were deducting points for missing class. I did get a bit miffed about that, because that seemed a bit unfair--not everyone lives on campus. But I am glad I stuck to my guns, because this could have been me if I'd gone in.

I felt resolute in my decision after seeing this. :)

But the did cancel classes the following day, the first time since 1999!

Wow. Now that is awful stuff. Something like that and I would not even crank the car, probably would not even get out of bed. I can't see schools not being cancelled, or at least some concessions made for commuters, in a mess like this.

Route 33 seems to be the dividing line between knowing how to handle snow and ice on the roads. North of it and they do a pretty good job for the most part and south of it you're on your own:cautious:
