what was the best WDW guest meltdown you've observed

OK, here's one for the holiday season. Christmas season 2012. DW and DS and I go to HS to get annual passes. Get to Guest Relations, and there are about 6 people in line before us and three windows open with customers. Furthest window opens up and first person in line goes toward the window. From behind us, woman walks right past women heading to the window, plants herself in the window and begins to demand her tickets. Everyone on line, which has now more people behind us, is aghast, but quietly lets the situation play out as it clear the women is not going to be be polite as she is already yelling and starting to swear at the CM. In a few minutes she storms off and we all think it's time to move on. She comes back with her husband and two pre-teen kids and together the husband and wife step in front of the person at the window and demand to be serviced. The women at the window, speaks up and points out that they had left and were not entitled to jump back in front and husband proceeds to verbally assault her now as well. Swearing at her and the CM and doing all this in front of their kids and the stunned families (with kids) on the line. Within a few minutes security arrives. The husband continues to swear and scream about being a season ticket holder and such and sadly security does not escort them out, but lets then stay a few feet away from the windows, still swearing. It was not a Jolly start to the holidays. But we all got over it and onto the Osborne lights.

Ok, this one is kinda scary. It started raining heavily at one of the parks... I forgot which one. My friend and I went inside a restroom, and as we were washing our hands, we saw a dad and his son, age 6 or 7, come in. The dad had a very thick New York accent and was angry because the kid splashed his leg with water from a puddle or something. At first we just thought, "Oh whatever, parents get mad about stupid crap all the time," but then we saw the dad lunge at the boy with a raised fist. My heart sank as I saw the boy jump back into the corner in fear. My friend and I immediately started to run toward the boy to try and protect him as I was thinking to myself, "Oh my god, I'm going to get into a fight at Disney World," but then the dad just stopped mid punch and stormed out of the restroom with the boy quietly following 20 feet behind. I turned to my friend and we were just in complete shock.

My best was at the Grand Californian at DL. We were sitting at the pool and had just ordered a beverage. A guy a few feet away had just started yelling at a CM because his beverage did not arrive in a quick enough fashion to suit him, even though the pool was very crowded, and the CMs were extremely busy. He talked about how he had been in the service industry forever, and that the service he was getting totally sucked, and that it shouldn't take so long to get a beverage. She tried to explain that they were busy, but he didn't care. HIS needs should come first before other people since he had paid so much (like everyone else was staying there for free). He continued ranting for 10 minutes at this poor girl, and then finally physically threatened her if he didn't get his drink like now. We could NOT believe this idiot. We went to the CM manager and pointed him out, told her a few things he had said, and security was there inside 30 seconds escorting him away. The poor girl was in tears at this point, and we talked with her to calm her down.

We found out later from the CM manager (who comped all of our drinks that afternoon!) that the jerk was actually kicked out of the hotel, and told not to come back! Karma was rally working that day!

That poor girl. But kudos to you guys for helping her!

while having lunch in tomorrow land (where sunny eclipse is. forgot the name of the place), we sat on the balcony & witnessed a family totally melt down.
the daughter in the group (mid 30's) actually went off on her parents about how they do everything they want to do, & not what she wants to do.
it went back & forth for about what seemed a long 2-3 minutes before they all got up & left. a meal & a show.
The adult meltdowns are always my favorite.

I thought of another one. I was enjoying a nice dinner in the Brown Derby when I saw a disturbance at a nearby table. Seems teenage daughter was upset about something, stood up and slugged her mother really hard in the arm, and started to exit. Dad tried to intervene, and he was punched in the arm too. He then just stood aside and let her flounce out. A few minutes later Dad went outside to find her. She had apparently calmed down, and came back in, sat down, and finished the meal. Dad and Mom were so casual about all of this that I could only surmise that teenage daughter did this a lot. What a fun family. . .
I'm a grown woman, and the mere thought of what my mother would've done had that been me sends shivers down my spine.

Hopefully General Dad got himself a Dole Whip w/ rum.
And a new wife while he was at it.
While not all that epic, it was a scene my family references all the time.

Let me set the scene....We are near the E:E fast pass machines, sitting down and partaking in some of the local cuisine. We see a typical family. Mom, dad and 2 kids under 10. The thing that catches our attention is mom has a clipboard full of papers. It is quite obvious that mom is the general in this army of 4.

One of the little soldiers, lets call him Private Billy, asks to go to the bathroom.

General mom replies quite sternly "It is not in the schedule."

Private dad points out that there is a bathroom right over over here that Private Billy can use.

General mom again repeats the order in a much sterner tone "I said it is not in the schedule!!"

Private dad points out that this is their vacation as well and Private Billy should be allowed an unscheduled bathroom stop.

General mom looses it. She throws the clipboard in the air screams something to the effect of 'I quit!!!!" and storms off.

Newly promoted General dad directs Private Billy to the nearby bathroom. When Private Billy emerges from the bathroom, General dad, absolutely sick with his new found power, looks at his 2 remaining soldiers and asks "You guys want ice cream?"

While I'm sure somewhat funny or odd to see there is a chance that the daughter has some kind of condition that causes her to lash out because she doesn't know how to handle the emotions. That would be my first guess anyways if the parents were so calm about it.
While you may be right, having grown up around many spoiled kids, I wouldn't be surprised if she were simply a brat and her parents simply allowed her behavior.

The kind of people I read about in threads like this make me fear for the future of our society. My opinion is that even the worst day at WDW is still better than the best day of almost anything else.

I think many of these issues happen because people come to Disney either ill prepared or their kids are not the correct age to handle it. This causes stress and meltdowns.

One night I was on the bus leaving the Magic Kingdom to my resort and the bus was empty except for me so we were waiting for more passengers. A family boarded with a son who was about 5 and a daughter who was about 2. As soon as the family sat down, the daughter lost it. Im talking nuclear meltdown the parents tried to calm her down without success. So the brother tried to calm her down by offering her a stuffed Mickey doll. She snatched the doll from him, threw it on the floor and turned around and slapped the brother upside the head. He started crying. Both parents looked totally defeated. I thought that story was funny, then I became a parent. Now, not so much.........

Happened about 15 years ago. I was on a solo trip to WDW after completing a major IT implementation at work and needing a little "down time". No time to plan a family vacation, my wife told me to just go for it on my own and enjoy the break so I did. I was sitting at the pool bar at the All Star Music about 10:30 PM having a couple of drinks before turning in for the night. Also at the bar was a middle aged couple with a couple of kids that appeared to be about 8 and 12. From their accents they appeared to be British, but of course I have no way of knowing for sure. They were quite drunk and LOUDLY berating their children for not appreciating all the money and effort it took to bring them to Disney World. That all the kids could talk about during the afternoon was wanting to swim. Well G.. D... it, they were at the pool now and they should be freaking swimming. That no one was going back to the room until they got their azzes in the pool and went freaking swimming. The kids were obviously hugely embarrassed and just wanted to be out of there. They begged their parents to go back to the room with them but the parents refused, and started in on them all over again. I couldn't stand it any longer and left, taking my drink back to my room with me. They seemed to be getting a fair amount of observation from the bartender... I hope something was perhaps done to resolve the situation soon. Not exactly the most Magical Place on Earth that evening. :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

To be fair, there could be just as long a thread about all the AWESOME interactions we've had with random people at WDW. We've had a lot of really fun moments with other guests, far more than we've had negative ones.

Too true!! I've also had an incredibly fun evening out at an All Star pool bar... this time at the All Star Sports. I was on another solo visit to the World and it was the night before Hurricane Floyd was predicted to hit Orlando. Everyone was that strange combination of excited and scared you face in such situations. A night to be spent with others, not sitting alone in a hotel room tuned to the Weather Channel. I met some great people that evening including a young couple from Great Britain. The poor young woman was absolutely scared to death... we tried to reassure her that Orlando was far enough inland that although it might get messy and inconvenient, no one was going to die. Not sure if she believed us or not. Also met a large family group from Michigan who were a lot of fun... for some reason they found my Minnesota accent amusing as heck and just HAD to take video of me talking to show everyone back at home. Not the kind of fun you expect to have when you plan a trip to WDW, but a very memorable evening to say the least!
