Luke is behind the mask
That is actor Adam Driver behind the mask. He does not play Luke.

Luke won't even get 2-minutes of screen time in this film. Most of which will be the short cliffhanger at the very end, just before credits roll, when we finally get to see his face. But it is still Mark Hamill as Luke. No bad guy, no mask, etc. If you pay attention to all the trailers, posters, & other materials related to the film, you will see how Luke's presence in this film is bare minimal.

@PhotoDave219 confirmed this in another thread.

Luke having what amounts to an extended cameo in episode 7 is exactly what I was expecting.

I just wonder if this is all another one of JJ's tricks....making all our fan speculations look idiotic once all is said & done. Not unlike him at all.
That is certainly possible, but a lot of my little red stings on mt Episode & conspiracy board are starting to align.

The initial spoilers of the story have Luke as a hermit. He was afraid of his power and becoming his father so he decided to check out of the world, not unlike Aragorn did in the Lord of the Rings.

That would mean no resurgence of the Jedi after the Emperor was killed. That seems to hold true in what little information has been given to us in the trailers. The destruction of the second Death Star has fallen into legend. That would mean no Jedi School of any significance The Death Star Went boom, Luke found a cave.

What we do see is in the book Aftermath are hints to the Rise of the Cult of Vader. Again based on the trailers, it would appear that Kylo Ren is a member, if not the leader of said cult.

I have a feeling that we will see the cult really become a problem for the New Republic in Episode 7 forcing Luke out of seclusion by the end.

Of course that is just my opinion. I could be wrong.;)

To me, Luke having to go into hiding for fear of his own life also makes sense. The far more practiced Yoda and Obi-Wan were fearful enough to go into hiding and they didn't engage in political assassination.

I'm a big fan of the expanded universe and I was looking through an old comic that I have. It had Jaina and Jacen Solo in it they are twins. Jaina became a Jedi while Jacen turned to the dark side and became a sith. It didn't hit me until later on but the picture of Jaina looks ALOT like Rey. And the picture of Jacen captures the essence of Kylo Ren without his helmet. I don't think this is by accident. I believe that some material was taken from the expanded universe but the names were changed. it would just be perfect you have this conflict within the Solo family. Rey much like Luke just lives on a dessert planet as essentially a nobody and doesn't know her great family history. Then you have her brother Kylo who somehow is raised by the first order and they keep pumping up his ego that he is Vaders grandson and is meant to continue his legacy. for my money this is the way to go story wise.

They've been doing this in Star Wars Rebels too. While the EU as a whole is no longer canon, that doesn't stop creators from grabbing bits of it and putting it into canon material if they like.
