Yep, my Dad told me they had a cool lazy river type slide that dropped you right into the river.

How did they ever keep the gators out? It's really a shame. It's bad what we've done to our waterways... and sadly Disney is partly to blame... although I know they try.

WOW, those pics are amazing. What a waste, though. They need to get American Pickers in there, ASAP to salvage some the stuff left behind!

Seriously I have great memories of that place as a kid. Sad that it went but when I think about it, the water was pretty gross. What can you expect from swampland though LOL

Which is unfortunate!
If anything at all it will probably be DVC cabins or more campsite loops for Fort Wilderness.

River Country and Discovery Island such a waste. Have been to Discovery Island may times and all ways wanted to go to River Country but never made it; each trip we said we'll go next visit----never made it
