So you need to be ready before 7am and get really lucky to book a virtual slot. im attending first 2 weeks of july and want t make sure the correct procedure. then if im in the park at 1pm i can try to join the virtual Q again

Correct. It's recommended to pull up an atomic clock (time.gov) on another device, so right at 7:00:00 or 1:00:00, you hit refresh and then join VQ (same button).
If you happen to miss the VQ, you could always opt for an ILL. I would personally get this regardless because I like to ride it more than once in a day.

Guardians holds the title. Two years and running.
Rise of the Resistance opened with VQ in December 2019 and stopped using VQ in September 2021 (and the park was closed for 4 months during that time.)
I really like the ride, but many people have issues with it. Thus, I’ve been thinking for about a year that they would go to standby/individual lightning lane anytime (my simple theory was that the more popular the ride was, the longer it would have virtual queue.). I wonder if there’s a new policy that the two newest big rides on property will always have virtual queue. Or, maybe a thrill ride in Epcot is proving to be so popular they don’t dare remove VQ.
