EPCOT Entertainment cuts

It didn't looks like they were getting ready to strike the stage, just looked like they were securing things for the moment so nothing went missing, all that gear is expensive, instruments, lighting, mics, pa , etc... wouldn't want someone trying to swipe something or something getting damaged, Security looked professional shook all their hands and looks like they were just making sure nothing happened.

Doing security at an amusement park whenever there is a large gathering of people things can go from completely fine to an utter mess in about 3 seconds so its always good just to be there and show a presence.

Edit: Okay, after looking at the video, I don't see where security did anything weird. Seems pretty normal. Plus with a crowd that size, you need a couple of security people on hand Just in case. Looked like the one guy was just conferring with the entertainment tech before walking off. I wouldnt go off on security about that.

agree. reports I was reading on social media made it sound much worse than the video appeared to me.

IMO, striking the set with the curtain up is bad show, though ... whether it's the first or 100th or last show.

one thing to consider with the security presence was the time of night, too. it was well after 8pm when the show ended. at some point, Off Kilter would have to stop playing. Illuminations would start. it's a dark, crowded area. I don't know what else could've been done. it wasn't ending well, regardless :(

Generally the very first thing to get taken up after a gig are the mics. They are very easy to get misplaced and/or pilfered and a single wireless mic can easily run upwards of $300.00.

It looks to me as if the members of the band were gathering up personal effects not really breaking down. Most bands have a sound company that handles loadin and loadout.

I agree that the security was there to do the job of security of the equipment only.

Yeah I'm actually going to give just need props for a very hands-off security affair. I'm used to heavy security at shows. That? That was nothing especially for a several thousand person Crowd. That appeared to be more like the security guy was asking the entertainment tech what if anything was needed.

(I usually go to a lot of punk shows that involve heavy security and full on Searches for you even enter the venue)

Just watched the last video, many thanks to whoever shot that! On the note of how the show ended we are furious, it looked like they were going to take the stage for another song when security stepped in. My initial reaction is to cancel our next trip (probably overboard). Going to watch again, we did not see the crowd trying to rush the stage. The actual end of the show should have been better planned so the tarp could be rolled down and appropriate end could have taken place without security on stage. Very happy they had the huge crowd support for the final night. The geniuses at Disney seem to have severely underestimated the popularity of Off-Kilter.

I heard that they played right up until like a minute before Illuminations was going to start so that could have been why they were unable to continue playing. Still very very poor show on Disney's part the way it was handled. Sort of ironic...the "show" and what customers saw "on stage" used to actually be an important part of what set Disney apart from the competition. Those days are in the past and have been long before yesterday.

This is from the Paul Bunyan facebook page:

It can now be announced and it is official, we have a year around permanent lumberjack show at Walt Disney World Epcot. The Show is called the Canadian Lumberjack Show located next to the Canadian Pavilion! So when you come to Disney World Epcot hey, please stop by and say hi! The show starts the week of October 5th. I am doing my happy dance right now!

I read that as well. Also said they starting breaking down the stage immediately, right in front of the visitors. Not sure how much lower Disney can go.

So can anyone confirm the escort by D security and this story? This would be a very new low, even for Disney as of recently. What the hell were they thinking?

Never seen a crowd so big for them before. And yes, I know, last show so everyone wants to see them.

Can't imagine the bottle neck of people trying to go around World Showcase

It was crazy. They had a taped off walkway through for people who weren't watching the show, just like at a MK parade, and Cast Members enforcing two lane walking traffic through the middle. It was full-on rock concert level of organisation.

I was there for the final 2 performances of Off Kilter and I am so glad I could make it. I knew it would be packed but I never expected what I saw there. It was amazing and I have never seen a crowd that large packed into that area even on NYE. It was fun, emotional, sad, uplifting and just freakin awesome. That final show was like a rock concert. The crowds cheers between songs was deafening where I was and at times the crowd singing along was almost as loud as the band. While the band are total professionals you could see on their faces how blown away they were by all the love they got from their fans in the end. In the 17 years I have seen them over 100 times and have never failed to be entertained. It was always great seeing a band that played a different show almost everytime. The entertainment cuts this year have gutted the soul of the World Showcase.

In the pursuit of the almighty dollar I don't think Disney has realized what they have done. Do they really think people are gonna stop and get a beer, a snack, fish and chips, etc to watch a freakin lumberjack show. I hope certain execs are bemused and bewildered why sales are down at the food carts in World Showcase in the next year. Maybe because you gutted all the entertainment that people, esp the locals who make up a lot of Epcot's business, loved. Ugh. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
