Just as reported at the D23 Expo, testing of Radiator Springs Racers is excepted to start today.

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/08/radiator-springs-racers-begins-ride-testing-today/
In the normal development process of any ride-based attraction at Disney Parks, Imagineers spend weeks and even months testing the ride vehicles. Many of you may have seen one of the first ride vehicles, which was on display at the D23 Expo in Anaheim this past weekend in the Parks & Resorts Pavilion. While it might be a while before you see this or any of the other ride vehicles racing around Ornament Valley, keep checking back with the Disney Parks Blog for the latest updates.

For the past few nights Cars Land has had construction lights illuminating the Cadillac Range, and leave it to Mint to capture. While its just big construction lights its still very cool to see.

I continue to be amazed by how massive the Cadillac Range appears. It must really be something in person!

Yes, it is much more impressive in person than any picture can convey.

However, it's also difficult to comprehend in person because we are still being kept so far away from it. Pictures like this one below, taken yesterday for the Dateline Disneyland weekly update on Miceage (that appears tomorrow), are almost always taken from the patio of the Blue Sky Cellar, up on the terrace of the Golden Vine Winery.

It's a great vista, but as a point of reference (using satellite maps) it is 1,100 feet from that patio to the vertical rock face of the Cadillac Range. That's over three football fields long, including end zones, and quite a ways from where the photographer is standing! Two dimensional pictures have a hard time capturing that scale and scope.

The town buildings of Radiator Springs begin about two hundred feet from the photographer, and continue to about the 700 foot mark. The main street of Radiator Springs, from Fillmore's Taste-In to the Courthouse is about 500 feet long, coincidentally almost exactly the same length of Main Street USA from the train station steps to the Coca-Cola Corner/Kodak Store at the very end of the street.

Cars Land is a very big "land", and we won't really be able to comprehend it all until the walls come down next June and we can get in there and explore, and likely get lost a bit.

The scaffolding is now coming down from the upper Caddy tailfins from '57 to '62...

Here's 1959 and 1960 closer up.

A peek down into the valley with the waterfall, where two parts of the Racers outdoor track curve near each other.
IMG0938-XL.jpg

A wall has gone up around the "Italian Tire Garden" queue of Luigi's Flying Tires.
IMG0921-XL.jpg

And more trees have gone in around Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, making it nearly impossible to see the progress from here to next summer.
IMG0916-XL.jpg

And finally, a nice view down the main drag of Radiator Springs, as seen from the up on the terrace of the second floor cocktail and wine lounge of the Golden Vine Winery.

Whattaview from that bar when it's all done next summer!

Not trying to be obnoxious, but there's really only one way to observe this particular picture, and that's the BIG way.

Here's a view we've seen before, but this time slightly different. Mintcrocodile took this picture from atop the Fun Wheel on a recent weekday, instead of the weekend photos we so obviously see.

Because the photo was taken on a weekday morning, there were workmen up on the scaffolding of the Cadillac Range painting and detailing the completed rockwork.

Check out those little guys up around the 150 foot level, and it gives you a better scale of how big Cars Land really is.

There is actually one place that you can see most but not all of the range from, its from the Hyperion Theater, you have to be headed to the balcony level.

Heres an image taken my Macro its from May so its a bit dated.

Seeing it in person from the balcony level is nothing short of breath taking at how large this project really is, just don't look down, your pretty high up.:)

Talk about having WOW factor! :sohappy:

Ya, radiator springs racers is going to be amazing. Talk about an E-ticket. Im usually not for the clones, but I would love to see this come to Holywood Studios. I think it will as it is the only thing that could compete with potter.

Considering this is part of a 1 billion dollar project, pretty sure the bulk of it is in Radiator Springs, IMHO I doubt TDO will ever spend that much. What FLA would get is a cheap lame knock off.

I don't think so. I do think it'll be a modified version, but Disney needs to go all out in WDW as well. It's the only logical answer to Potter.

WOW, This is going to be Amazing.

Uh, yeah, it is. And trust us when the SoCal'ers who have seen it in person tell you that pictures don't do it justice. The scale can't be captured by Internet pictures.

For those interested in John Lasseter's role in Cars Land and the entire 1 Billion Dollar DCA Extreme Makeover, you need to check out the amazing interview Miceage.com staffers had with John Lasseter during the D23 Expo.

They were told they would have 5 minutes to talk to Lasseter, but he ended up staying with the Miceage folks for 45 minutes gabbing about Disneyland and Pixar and Cars Land and all sorts of fun stuff. It's an amazing read, mainly for John Lasseter's thoughts behind DCA and his role in its current and very dramatic metamorphosis.

Check out the Lasster/Cars Land interview at Miceage here... http://micechat.com/forums/features/158750-micechat-interviews-john-lasseter.html#post1056623381

I was looking at the Middle Earth Cars Model D23 Expo, Imagineer explained to me that the highest wall of the rock wall would be 180 meters high and completely turn off all the outside world within the park. I was surprised !
