Challenge 6 - Hey a Movie!
A Double Blitz Challenge

(A Double Blitz is Double Elimination)

lcoie3841.jpg

Welcome all to the year 2005, this year we celebrate Disneyland's 50th Anniversary with the Happiest Homecoming on Earth celebration! However Disneyland, doesn't get all the festivities, no thanks to Eisner's beautiful innovative mind we're able to proudly welcome new additions to each of the parks. Here at Disney's Hollywood Studios we are proud to open _________ which is a part of the land known as Streets of America.

The challenge is to fill in that blank with your very own creations! It must feature at the very least two attractions, and you may only clone one existing ride. Anything from 2004 and prior is fair game. It will continue to be a part of Streets of America when it opens in 2005. You may use any IP Disney owns or has access to at the time, and if you wish to use an IP that does not meet one of those criteria you may ask me either via PM or here. You may only use the area that has been allocated fr this expansion.

View attachment 172060

You may use as many sentences as needed, and as many images as needed. The project is due on Friday, 11/4 at 11:59 PM EST.

Any questions, if so feel free to ask! I may not get to any asked tomorrow from 5:30 PM - 11 PM.
1: Can this be a miniland (multiple rides)?
2: Can this involve the reworking of other areas of SoA?
3: Does it have to use all of the land?
4: Does it have to be a part of SoA?
5: Does it have to be a clone or a version of a clone, since it is a part of the 50th promotion?
6: Can we add to the tram route?
7: Do we have to use the whole plot?
8: Does the whole plot have to be used for the same ride/land/theme?

6: Can we add to the tram route?
I was wondering this also. Before LMA, the backlot tour was longer and went over that area; are we allowed to manipulate the path however it fits into our new expansion best or should we keep what change to the path LMA brought and work within the plot posted on the map in the challenge prompt post?

  1. Yes
  2. Just the area in yellow
  3. No
  4. Yes
  5. No there does not have to be a clone
  6. Sure
Do we Have to have a clone?
No
I don't think it's a requirement to clone anything? Only that if you do clone something, you can only clone one attraction. At least that's how I read the instructions.
Correct

Keep what LMA did to the tram, and work with that plot.

So just to make sure I understand what you're saying, you cannot make the Backlot Tour path shorter than how it was after LMA, but it can be made longer of we so chose?

I have a new idea in mind :D
You can add to the tram route, but not make the path longer. Like you can add a new show scene, but keep it the same length as it was when LMA opened.

Grey is an expansion of the Muppets’ Courtyard. I will not detail this as I will be using a non-original idea of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Season 3 from Team Mickey. This expansion will add one attraction - The Great Muppet Ride. I am not counting this as one of my three rides; therefore, I will not detail it more than it is seen in the link above. (It is probably my favorite attraction I have ever seen on these boards, though.)

Red is an attraction called “It All Started With A Mouse.” It is a dark ride.

Green is an attraction called “Kingdom Hearts.” It is a thrill ride.

Yellow is an attraction called “Plane Crazy.” It is a flat ride.

Purple is the Downtown Area of this land, with shops and a restaurant called Mickey's Promenade.

It All Started With A Mouse (opening 2005)

The exterior facade is similar to “It’s A Small World” over at California in the way that it is a boat ride, with an outdoor loading dock. However, it shows artwork of Mickey and his friends throughout the ages, instead of the towers seen on small world. The ride also uses boats, similar to Small World, and but these boats can be turned and piloted with much more control and speed. All scenes are created using animatronics

Scene One: Steamboat Willy
As our boat pulls out of the station, the familiar whistle of Steamboat Willie is heard. As the boat moves down the manmade river, the iconic scene of Mickey piloting the steamboat is seen to our left. Pete is behind Mickey raising his foot to kick Mickey. After this iconic intro, the other side shows the musical number from these featuring Minnie, Mickey, Clarabella Cow, and a goat?

Scene Two: The Gallopin' Gaucho
In this scene, Pete and Mickey face off in a bar, while Minnie dances in between the two of them. This bar is located in the old West

Scene Three: Building A Building
Pete is stomping his feet angrily in the background as Minnie and Pluto sells lunchboxes to Mickey. The setting is a skyscraper construction site.

Scene Four: Silly Symphonies
MIckey is conducting a large orchestra made up of various of his friends. Beautiful orchestral music plays and the setting is a park.

Scene Five: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
The iconic scene of Mickey and the broomsticks is recreated as well as the scene where Mickey is surrounded by stars on the podium. Beautiful orchestral music plays in the background, and Chernabog's eyes can be seen in the distance.

Scene Six: The House of Mouse
Mickey's dinner theater is seen and Mickey welcomes guests from various other works as they enter and exit the theater (it works like a conveyor belt where they go in the theater, backstage, and then out around the street). Some characters include Aladin, Mulan, Hercules, Pinocchio, etc.

Scene Seven: Mickey’s World
Mickey and his friend are standing in front of Cinderella's Castle at Disney World wishing us goodbye, as the Micky's March plays. Donald is dressed up as a pirate, Pete as a bandit, Goofy as a space ranger, etc. to represent the different rides.

Kingdom Hearts (opening 2007)

QUEUE (FastPass, Single Rider, and Regular): We go through a door at the very start of the queue, which leads us to a room inside Castle Disney, where the cornerstone of light is sitting. We go through the castle to the gummi docks, where Chip and Dale are waiting for us...

PRE-SHOW: Sora, Donald, and Goofy have been called on another quest to protect the Disney worlds from villains like Organization XIII, Maleficent, and Pete! This time, they are recruiting help from citizens of Disney Town, which surrounds Disney Castle, to help them battle the hordes of Heartless and Nobodies!

RIDE VEHICLES: This ride is a combination of Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear. Each vehicle is completely enclosed and holds two people. There are twenty of these pods constructed in the gummi docks and the ride takes seven minutes. In the pods, one person is given the role of pilot and the other is given the role of gunner. The pods can make 360-degree revolutions if the pilot chooses. (Also cast members can limit the pods’ spinning capacity depending on the height of the guests)

EXPERIENCE: Each scene takes between thirty seconds to one minute to complete. After one minute or the killing of all the heartless, Chip takes control of the pilot and soars us out of there. If a rider completes all scenes in under seven minutes, there are given the ability to fly around in any world and fight additional Heartless for their remaining time.

Scene One: Disney Castle Escape (Tutorial)

Scene Two: Mysterious Tower

Scene Three: The Pridelands

Scene Four: Olympus Coliseum

Scene Five: Port Royal

Scene Six: The Land of Dragons

Scene Seven: Hollow Bastion

Plane Crazy (Opening 2005)

A clone of Dumbo which features planes, as they represent the original cartoon Mickey was in. center orb will portray various Mickey comic strips to try and make it fitting as the centerpiece for the area.

Mickey Promenade (Opening 2005)

House Tours of Mickey, Minnie, and Donald are moved here from the Magic Kingdom.

[Restaurant A]

Author's Note
I have a really busy week, and I don't know if I'll have time to edit this, but I am certainly going to try and add things little by little.

Special Challenge - You can Can Can!

can-can.gif

Yes this challenge is about trash cans, how did you guess? So in this challenge you guys are tasked with creating a trash can for any Disney park, and in any time period. You may use up to five sentences and one picture. The challenge is due Monday, 10/31 at 11:59 PM.

For this special challenge we are overhauling the system so that everyone gets points! This will be decided by your overall total points after the main challenge points are calculated. For example Johnny has 1 point, he wins this challenge so he gains another one. His total is now two, but since he is in last place he gets an additional 1000 points, and wins.

The bottom two for total will receive a bonus of 2 points, the middle two will receive a point, and spacemt/Magic Feather if they do it will receive 0.5 points.

Now go off imagineers, and bring forth to me the best trashcan concept there is!
Behold, Walt Disney World new En-can-ted Trash Cans!
Throughout the day, guests may notice a special trashcan, decorated with vines near Enchanted Tales with Belle, Mad Tea Party, or Tangled Tower. During the day, these cans seems normal.
But at night, a mysterious glowing wand arrives on a pedestal nearby. Guests can attempt to toush the wand, however, it will not budge, however, after every 25th guest attempts to remove it, it shoots a beam of light towards the can. All of a sudden, the can comes alive with glowing pixie dust, as the vines soon grow into gorgeous flowers. A different can has the wand near it every night, so you never know, which one is en-can-ted.

PS: I know it is late, just wanted to turn in what I had been working on.

First up in Central Park, when entering from the Muppet area, guests will intitially enter next to the Garden of Friends where guests can meet their favorite princesses. This area will feature Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella initially, but characters will eventually rotate.

When entering from the New York Street side, guests will pass the new coffee shop called
The Grounds where guests can buy coffee and other assorted beverages in a lounge-like setting. In a joint building with the cafe, The Shack, where a multitude of merchandise can be found.

Between the Garden of Friends and The Shack is a new ampitheater/common space:
The Great Lawn Ampitheater
Here, at the Great Lawn Ampitheater (very akin to Universal Music Plaza Stage) is the new show "Minnie's Tea Party" featuring Minnie Mouse as she invites some of her favorite friends to help her put on a tea party. She calls upon Daisy Duck, Cinderella, Snow White, and lastly Alice and Mad Hatter as they throw the ultimate tea party, until the evil stepmother, the evil queen, and the queen of hearts crash the party. Who will succeed? Watch to find out.

Last up in this new mini area is the latest E ticket attraction at Disney's MGM Studios. Atop Vista Rock, on the corner of the massive Vista Lake lies a 1:2 replica of Belvedere Castle, home of the newest E-Ticket attraction at Walt Disney World Resort, with the largest showbuilding ever used in a Disney attraction: Mysteries of Belvedere– On Location!

image.jpeg

This ride is a new, thrilling, water based attraction, that will accomodate most family members. Guests enter under a traditional park canopy, where Stand By and FASTPASS seperate. Guests first wander through a set of park canopies, as they have a great view of the lake, featuring animatronic swans, and their fellow guests splashing out of a cave under Vista Rock. Intrigued, you continue forward. Into the production trailers for a movie called mysteries of Belvedere.
As you enter, you notice that you have entered the main offices, where surrounding you are enveloped in a world of cubicles. Keen eyed guests may notice newspaper clippings laying around about strange occurences while filming. After exiting the production trailers, guests enter the caves under belvedere castle. You enter a main chaber, where Fastpass and Standby merge, here, you get a briefing by a man of the name, "John Lewis", head of Lewis Films, who infirms you that you have been slected to take a tour of the movie set, although most of it is flooded due to a strange flash flood that occurred in the caves earlier, so you will travel by boat. You exit the briefing chamber inti the loading area, where guests board their wooden boats for the journey of a lifetime.
You turn the corner our of load into a massive cave, where you see John Lewis standing over an intricately carved. He begins, "Welcome friends to the tour of a lifetime! Now look here, this box is an prop that we are using, donated to us by the Museum of History. It is said to contain magical weather sprites that can create some of the most extreme weather. But that is not true, as you can see..." Johnopens the box, and out spring five colored beads of light, brought to live by fiber optics and fishing line. "AFTER THOSE SPRITES!" John screams, as your boat enters a Medival chamber, here, you will see a row of five gargoyles, that the beads of light enter, resulting in a glowing, moving gargoyle.
image.jpeg
There is the yellow lightning spirit, the grey tornado/ wind sprirt, the blue rain spirit, the red lava spirit, and the green earthquake spirit. All of a sudden, either the laser eyes of the Lightning Sprit, or the fog mounth from the wind spirit fire at you, suddenly launching you 5-30 mph up a hill, and into a helix, where a fog tornado is in the center, or lightning strobes flash to simulate a tornado and or lightning storm, respectively, before you are thrown out of a helix, and splash down into what you can only assume to be the flooded great hall of Belvedere Castle. You slowly make you way through this magnificently large hall. Outside, it seems that a brutal rainstorm is occuring, as lightning continues to flash. You turn a corner in the hall towards a pair of grand doors, akin in size to those of jurrasic park, above which is the cakckling water spirirt, possesing another gargoyle.
The Doors open into the massive ballroom of Belvedere Castle, as magical rain falls from the ceiling. Relentless waves continuously rock your boat, meanwhile, the water gargoyle spits at you. Your boat passes a whirlpool, that you barely manage to skirt around, before you enter a parlor. Here, the water level seems to be rising, bringing you closer to the leaking ceiling (really, the ceiling lowers), just as the water become akin to rapids as you speed out of the flooding room. Suddenly, you have reentered the caves where one more sprite awaits to torment you. Depending on your trip, this will be the lava or earthquake sprite.
If you have the lava sprite, the rocks will glow red as heat cannons fire, you seem tobe entering an inferno! You round the bend, as shots of pyrotechnics fly around you, before launching upwards at a 60* angle at 40 mph. You wind past glowing caverns and into a smoke cloud where you drop out of nowher. A hissing sound is suddenly heard, as you fly out and into Vista Lake. If it is raining outside, then your boat will splash down into an unmarked, stone chamber before continuing to the final scene.

If the earthquake sprite is chosen, then the rocks will begin shaking, as bass pumps under your vehicle to simulate the tremors and shaking. The rocks move, as a few fall from the ceiling onto a nearby path. An air cannon's downward blast, followed by a huge splash, simulates a rock falling, causing your boat to shoot up into other caverns, where rocks continue to shake from side to side, as co2 blasts simulate rock dust. Bass tremors increase before a large drop into a smoke cloud which drops you out into Vista Lake, or an unmarked stone chamber if the weather is bad.
Your boat (in fair weather) floats out and around the massive vista lake, passing animatronic swans, frogs, and turtles, and watching guests along the fences. Watch out, as some frogs's lilypad will spin, allowing them to spit at you (if guests along the fence notice hidden buttons on the rail). Of you look towards the Great Lawn Ampitheater, you may catch, or hear, a glimpse of "Minnie's Tea Party". Boats slowly sail back towards another cave under vista rock.
Upon entering the cave, guests will see the five beads of light, representing the weather spirits, fly back into their bix, as it shuts. Guests round the corner and discover a film crew, with cameras pointing right at them, and a boom mic hanging over their head, just as you see John Lewis say, "Cut! That's a Wrap! Thanks everybody for being our stars. You can purchase your movie at "That's a wrap" thanks for helping." Your boat then pulls into the unload cavern, as you walk down a lakeside path to "That's a Wrap Gifts", where guests can get their on ride photo (taken during the Great Hall splashdown), or on ride movie (featuring clips from the initial launch, the great hall splashdown, the waves, the second launch, the lava caves/ earthquake caves segment, and the final splashdown, edited together into one storyline).

Backlot Tour Enhancements:
This new addition to the backlot tour ties in to the attraction. A car passes a set of camera equipment, as John Lewis comes over the audio, requesting for the tram to be an extra in a scene. You enter a soundstage into a mystical cavern, with vines draping everywhere. A small light exits the side, as the front and back showdoors close in on the tram. All of a sudden, a fog based tornado fills the center kf the room, swirling in a way similar to Universal Orlando's Twister- Ride it Out! In addition, at the tram turn around, a new central park fountain is added in the center.
image.jpeg

Time Warp:
This attraction is very popular, and as MGM/ Hollywood Studios transitions away from the "Studios" aspect, this attraction is essily able to amke the transition with it. "On Location" would be dropped from the ride name,as well as the production trailer portion of the queue would be changed to an exhibit of weather gods/ sprites lore, and the ride would be framed as a tour of a mysteriously flooded Belvedere. John Lewis will be rebranded as your tour guide, and all refrences to "the set" will be left out of his dialogue. At the end, the camera crew will dissapear, and instead the wooden box will move in front of John Lewis, and it seems like he will catch the sprites, amd send you off. "That's a Wrap gifts" will also be renamed "Garden Wonders Gifts". The narrarative will be removed from the on ride video.
In 2013, a "Brave" overlay was considered, and still is being considered, however for now, the ride remains in its current state. Seeing as how this is the plot Star Wars Experience was going to be on, the project will move to the area surrounding Echo Lake, and Indiana Jones. In addition, this makes SoA stay, but with significant upgrades, including a new streetmosphere show.

Posting the intro for now so I don't loose it. Really excited about this concept :)

TheOriginalTiki Presents:
The Wild Frontier: A New Sub-Land to the Streets of America
Bringing Disney's Theme Park Roots Full Circle

One of the big complaints with modern Disney Imagineering is the lack of attractions not based off IPs. While it's true that in the glory days of the 1960's and 1970's Disney created some of the most mind-blowing original theme park attractions in history, the fact remains that in the early opening years of Disneyland in the 1950's the park was very much focused on using intellectual properties. This was most notable in Fantasyland but also Frontierland. Few people acknowledge it these days, but there was a reason the original Frontierland took up nearly half the original park's real estate...Practically the entire land was a giant promotional vehicle for Disney's "Davy Crockett" series which was a huge pop culture touchstone in the 1950's.

Davy Crockett went a long way towards children of the 1950's and 1960's embracing the western and cowboy genres which expanded with other series such as Disney's "Zorro", as well as Frontier-themed famous short films such as "Paul Bunyan" and "A Cowboy Needs a Horse".

So when asked to come up with an expansion to the Streets of America, I saw it as an opportunity to return Disney to its Frontier roots and to have Disney's Hollywood Studios travel back to an America that's long since been in the history books. The Wild Frontier promises to be a sprawling new addition to the Studios park which brings together the cultural heritage of American legends such as Davy Crockett with the behind-the-scenes philosophy of showing off movie magic that the park embraces.

The area will have four locations...An E ticket called "Davy Crockett's Wild Frontier", a D Ticket thrill ride themed around "The Mark of Zorro", a sit down restaurant fit for a giant in "Paul Bunyan's Pancake House", and your go to stop for all things in Western-themed merchandise with "Cowboy Needs a Horse Mercantile". It's all within the borders of Disney's Wild Frontier sub-land!

Layout

14910285_1254594357913057_3213661477911419373_n.jpg

Guests will enter The Wild Frontier off the Muppet Vision corner of Streets of America. Attracting potential explorers to the area will be a quarter scale inch recreation of the Alamo in Texas. This draws the two main heroes of the land together as Zorro has roots in Texan mythology while Davy Crockett took his iconic last stand at the Battle of the Alamo. The six Texan flags fly high over the entrance point to the Wild Frontier which serves as an appropriate "Castle" to the land.

Immediately following the Alamo will be the main queue and show building for "The Mark of Zorro", a D-Ticket themed coaster. An impressive recreation of the Smokey Mountains, one of which mountain-top our hero was apparently born on...lies the entrance and show-building to Davy Crockett's Wild Frontier, the E-Ticket anchor of the land which combines the thrills and cliffhangers of the iconic "Disneyland" series with the edu-tainment behind-the-scenes film-making the original Disney MGM Studios was known for.

Tall forced perspective redwood trees loom over a courtyard which serves as the entry point into Paul Bunyan's Pancake House. In a small settler's cabin nestled within the Smokey Mountain set piece is the Cowboy and Horse Mercantile.

The exit pathway of Davy Crockett's Wild Frontier is destined to become a highlight of the land, as we pass by two of Paul Bunyan's creations as seen in the 1956 short...The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Falls. The Grand Tetons are nestled on the backside of the Smokey Mountains to as a smaller mountain range and a stunning transition once you exit the Crockett attraction.

Walking along the Tetons, you come to Yellowstone Falls where you walk through a cave to get back to the central hub of the area between the Davy Crockett's and Zorro attractions. This walkway will be cut off from the rest of the area but will still be able to be accessed for guests who do not wish to ride the Crockett attraction and serves as a perfect example of how engrossing I am to get with the setting of this land!

Davy Crockett's Wild Frontier

The queue starts outdoors as we wind around the naturalistic looking nature trails placed around the smokey mountains, which is an impressive mix of realistic natural park and clever masking of a show building ala Radiator Springs Racers. The trails take up a large part of the queue as we bask in the wonder of the mountains.

We enter the show building through the side of a cliff and go down a long hallway. In the middle of the hallway we come upon the film room which is doused in black and white. The film room has the "Disneyland" TV show opening projected onto it. After the narrator lays out the lands, Walt Disney comes on to give us a personal introduction to the Davy Crockett legend before we enter the final stretch of queue before the loading platform. This film room is meant to put guests in the time and space of the 1950's watching the legend of Davy Crockett play out on their televisions for the first time.

The loading area is simply a projection mapped sunset against a canvas, while the Davy Crockett theme song plays as we prepare to board. A simple and elegant way to call back to iconic cowboys riding off into the sunset, only this time our adventure only just begins with it! The ride vehicles will be horseless stage coaches manned by a "host" cast member who will serve as the attraction's narrator.

The stage coaches will have room for a total of 29 guests a piece. There will be four rows that can fit up to four people on the floor level of the coach, while the upper level has room for four rows of three people each. One lucky guest each trip gets to sit next to the host in the passenger seat. These stagecoaches are rigged to give off the feel of realistic bumpiness as we traverse the frontier terrain, but this is more for a realism effect and less for thrills like attractions such as Dinosaur and Disneyland's Indiana Jones.

As you ride off into the sunset, you're treated to a recreation of the Davy Crockett theme song complete with your host engaging the stage coach in a sing along rendition. We pass by giant screens displaying famous images from the series as well as a Sing-Along style bouncing ball spelling out the lyrics.

The next room is an example of a typical American living room in the 1950's, with Davy Crockett playing on TV, all the family wearing skin caps, and a framed picture of Fess Parker and Buddy Epsen on the wall. Our host tells just how big of a cultural phenomenon Davy Crockett was when it premiered on the "Disneyland" TV show.

The living room transitions out into a backyard which then leads to a forest. Getting deeper into the forest we come upon two feuding groups of native American tribes (portrayed by about 5 AA's a piece on either side of the coach) Davey Crockett rides up on horseback. At first it seems there will be some conflict as one of the tribes aims their bows and arrows his direction.

After a brief conversation in the native language Crockett tips his skin cap and rides back off. The narrator tells us one of the many heroic traits possessed by Crockett were that of a diplomat. This scene is a diorama style retelling of the "Creek Wars" section of the original Davy Crockett film

Our coach heads further down the creek where were met by Mike Fink and his famous keel boat, the Gullywhumper. Fink challenges Crockett to a race as a Crockett AA appears opposite side of the creek as Fink. This results in the most thrilling sequence of the attraction...The keel boat race!

hqdefault.jpg

Crockett and Fink are racing their keel boats on either side of us as the stage coach rides along a very narrow peninsula of land that divides the two sides of the river. Eventually Crockett crashes, but earns Fink's request as he offers Crockett a safe passage back down the river in the Gullywhumper.

Heading down a tunnel we come out into a historical first in a Disney attraction...a recreation of Disneyland on opening day in 1955! Most notably, the Frontierland portion of the "Dateline Disneyland" broadcast hosted by Art Linklater...

We see a recreation of the Mark Twain docks and Golden Horseshoe saloon as an AA of Linklatter, pencil microphone and all, fumbles over himself amidst the jungle of wires scarred on the ground. Fess Parker and Buddy Epsen are waiting patiently for their cue on the side of the Golden Horseshoe as children...and more than a few adults in skin caps come rushing up to greet him!

As our narrator tells us of the historical significance of Davy Crockett to the entirety of opening day Frontierland were once again on the river surrounded by "pirates" in a crude makeshift ship. Our host stresses that we've wandered too far off course.

D238a.JPG

Davy Crockett and Georgie Russell appear on the other side of the river from the pirates and engage in a fire fight with us trapped in the middle! In the end a sharp shot by Davy sparks a gun powder fuse on the crude ship and the River Pirates are blown sky high.

After that raucous and adventurous scene the tone changes for the final scene of the ride...The Alamo Standoff. We hear gunfire going off as we approach a recreation of the fortress. Inside we see Davy Crockett taking on an opposing army that vastly outnumbers him. The host tells us in somber closing final words that Davy's bravery at the Alamo that night is a big part of what cemented him as a legend in the history books.

While he did perish, him taking on so many men led many others to escape with their lives in tact. We exit out another side of the mountains and come upon a bronze statue of the real Davy Crockett before heading down the path back towards the rest of land.

Mark of Zorro
zorro-wii-prontogames.jpg

This will be the Wild Frontier's signature thrill ride. Guests will ride in six car trains of what look like barells on a twisting and turning track as banditos are on the hunt for the legendary masked vigilante Zorro. The exterior is housed in a church that has come under the attack from the attraction's antagonistic band of outlaws. We see a shadow of Zorro from a corner of the bell tower above...surveying the damage and looking for clues to the identity of the culprits.

As we wind our way through the church, we end up at the second story bell tower where were loaded into our vehicles which are themed after wine barrells and made to fit four people a piece with six barrells per train and four trains running throughout the attraction.

Taking off, we make a sharp descent out of the station's bell tower and into a curving track that look like the streets of Mexico. Villagers shutter their windows as we approach what looks like a "Z" burned into the ground before climbing the first of the attraction's three lift hills.

The first lift hill gets us up to the roof tops of the Spanish village where we see the gang of bandits firing at us as the cars twist through the track and engage in the built in free-spinning mechanic. We drop down to street level and climb another lift hill into the church from which we dropped out of at the start of the ride.

Climbing to the roof of the church, we drop down the largest drop of the ride before making several spirals and helixes within a recreation of the main church entryway that we passed through in the queue. Right before we climb the third lifthill we pass a sheet hanging in a door way which starts to get a "Z" slashed through it".

Climbing up the final lift hill we at last see Zorro awaiting us at the top. Were about to plunge from the roofs of the church down street level. Zorro tips his hat as we twist through the last bit of track through the Spanish village and end with the gang of bandits tied up in a horse stall, a "Z" slashed into all their shirts. We enter the bell tower again and pass by the shadow of Zorro on our way out of the attraction.

Paul Bunyan's Pancake House

Mead_PaulBunyan_72.jpg

This one's a no-brainer. Pancakes are a huge part of the Paul Bunyan mythology and this will be well suited in a GIANT way within this pacific northwest corner of the Wild Frontier. Passing by a few larger than life redwood trees guests enter a huge barn which serves as the main dining hall.

The menu consists of all kinds of different pancake concoctions from regular flapjacks to French crepes to potato pancakes and pancakes stuffed with any number of different fruits. The headlining item on the menu is "Paul's Stack". This monstrosity consists of five pounds of pure pancake bliss shared across a short (?) stack of three MASSIVE pancakes. Eat it in an hour, and it's free!

flapjacks.jpg

Paul Bunyan's Pancake House is also always staffed with at least one character actor from the original short who tells tales of how they met Paul Bunyan. Occasionally the room will shake and we'll hear the voice of Thurl Ravenscroft singing "With my double-blade ax and my hob nail boots, I go where the timber's tall..." All across the walls are pictures of alleged sightings of Paul Bunyan, all just a bit out of focus.

Horse and Cowboy Mercantile

"A Cowboy Needs a Horse" is a classic portrayal of the American fascination with the wild west during the 1950's, and thus would be a natural launching point for the main store of The Wild Frontier. Guests enter through a small, unassuming cabin in the middle of the land's main courtyard. After entering the shop we see a rather modern 1950's living room complete with a TV, furniture, and a view of a city scape from the wide windows. This is just the foyer of the shop and serves as a transition.

Continuing into the little boy's room, we see the expanse of the store literally rests in the character's dreams. As we explore this store we see all kinds of visual homages to the classic short that's told through the perspective of a little boy dreaming he's a cowboy. The shop contains all kinds of western needs including everything listed in the song...Boots, spurs, lasso rope, and even rocking cowboy horses! You can also pick up exclusive pins themed around the short (and trust me, NONE exist yet...I've avidly tried to check for them online :p )

And that concludes your tour of The Wild Frontier. With this bold new addition to the Hollywood Studios I aim to bridge the gap between the studio park and Magic Kingdom proper while also focusing on the film making and cultural elements of Hollywood we haven't seen since the park's golden age.

A Twist In Time: Challenge 6
IDInstitute's Proposal

The year- 2004! With the DL 50th coming up, a new expansion is planned for all parks, including DHS! (Or should I say MGM Studios?) As we all know, in our timeline, Lights, Motors, Action! is cloned from Walt Disney Studios Paris. While a nice show, it wasn't really what many of us would have called a stand out attraction. In my new timeline, 2 new attractions will be coming to the park on this plot, both of which are sure to be exciting, fun, and memorable parts of the day. In addition, they fit perfectly into the parks 'current' movie studio backlot theme back there, but also are attractions that are likely to stand the test of time far longer than LMA/BLT. In addition, one of the attractions is a clone from another park (as part of the whole idea behind this was to share attractions from other parks for the celebration, etc. LMA, Soarin, and more). So Keep reading to find out about this new MGM Studios expansion!

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
toon-town.jpg

The cloned attraction coming to the park will be Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, as at Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Roger Rabbit has always had an interesting relationship with MGM/DHS, with it having had many big plans for attractions, but never quite getting there. Well, now this nice dark ride will finally make its way to WDW, in the wonderful movie park where it fits great and has been hinted at/has references all throughout. It will go on the part of the plot closest to Streets of America, with an entrance facing the Muppets area (map at bottom of post), as what better IP transition than from Muppets to Roger Rabbits?! The facade will remain largely the same, however will receive a bit of a greater emphasis on the brick design to fit in with the Muppets area theme, and slight color modification to match SoA. Other than that, the attraction will be the same. For those who haven't experienced this attraction before, enjoy!:

The Incredibles: Menace in Metropolis!
The major part of this new expansion is The Incredibles: Menace in Metropolis! This ride is the park's first water ride, with the most apt comparison being the Splash Mountain of MGM. The decision behind choosing this attraction is very Eisner-an! ;) :p With The Incredibles coming up as such a big anticipated hit, this is a great IP choice. In addition the theme of Metropolis from the movie fits properly as an expansion in the Streets of America city line up. Lastly, adding the first water thrill ride seems like a great choice for the park, adding variety with a fan favorite thriller, but not alienating families with Roger Rabbit also opening.

Facade:
The facade, as shown in the picture below, incorporates many wonderful facades of the city, with the chaos of the destruction of the town, and works with the environment well (more on the facades in the BLT section). In addition, it exudes a very exciting and fun atmosphere with lots of kinetic energy out front, with the moving set pieces and ride vehicles coming down the main drop:
IMG_5753.JPG

(I never said I was an artist :p)

Queue:
As shown in the chicken scratch above, guests enter the queue in what is a cinderblock structure, as a building starting to go under construction in the city, but of course is stopped in its tracks due to the chaos! Walking through this area, guests eventually make it outside in the city again for a series of switchbacks, but this time they are indoors and give the impression of nighttime. Guests are then taken into the preshow room for a briefing from Mr. Incredible. The room is very technologically advanced, as it is a new headquarters for the supers. The show beginning to play has Mr. Incredible come onto the screen with a huge sense of urgency. He tells us how madness is going on in the city and the supers are doing the best they can to stop it, but he worries of course of how it seems like the mysterious villain is going to run the town to destruction. He knows we are little non-super muggles, but he needs our help anyway. He has a strong suspicion something is going on on Normansian Island, the island where Syndrome once had all his evil work. He needs us to check it out and get back to him ASAP! (also obligatory "one more important thing!" before cable and electricity for the own goes out gag ;)) The next room, also technologically advanced in this Headquarters, is where guests board their Supers life raft.

Ride Experience:
Once guests are aboard the life rafts, the ride is off! The boat continues a bit on around the Supers HQ lab, with lots of interesting gear to look at. However, we are actually in a copter right now on our way to Normansian Island! Over the audio Mr. Incredible says, "Ok, we are flying you into the island right now, everyone hold on as the landing might be a little rough". The doors in front of you open, and you go down a small but thrilling out of the surprise factor drop into the island (like Slippin' Falls). Once the initial rush of the splash and thrills are over though, you start to look around, and take in a grand, wonderful scene of the island. It looks so beautiful, you almost forget you're on a mission to stop a bad guy here! This scene on the island is massive to create a stunning view at first to take breaths away, and for the first few minutes of the ride touring the island, all of the different scenes take place in this room (though slightly different sections of course).
nomanisan-island.jpg

The-Incredibles.jpg

21A.jpg

(Note- the characters aren't in these scenes, these images are just to get a glimpse of what it looks like)

All is seeming very peaceful...too peaceful! Out of nowhere an animatronic "flying" weapon swoops down at you (kind of like the pterodactyl in Dinosaur, but thrillier) to kill you (they're the things in the picture below). Editors note- in a year that isn't 2004, this could be updated for a pretty sick drone effect:cool:
861852-the_incredibles_3_of_4___page_00.jpg

(Throwback to before Disney owned Marvel it seems :p)

The audio with Mr. Incredible shoots back on. He is suddenly panicking in his voice, trying to mutter out amongst the static the best he can, "GET OUT OF THERE! QUICK! WE KNO-" and he's cut off, with a new audio hijacking it in his place "You're here now, why bother trying to escape like that? What's the rush?" Any Incredibles fan knows the horrific voice they just heard. "That's right, its me. This is my plan." The boat makes a sudden turn around the corner and it is revealed who the enemy is through audio animatronic form. "Hahaha, I'm back, SYNDROME!" You can see behind the animatronic in a hole in the cave is all sorts of technological evil gear and lava, much like the lab from the movie. He continues on, "I will never give up my goal of trying to incite fear into the citizens of the metropolis. I will bring my terror to them. They will deliver their screams to me. And I will provide control over everything".

We turn a corner, and start going up a massive lift hill. It looks like a metal tunnel, with flashing red lights on both sides, with another Syndrome animatronic at the bottom, talking to you your way up. "Now, my old methods haven't always worked, people seemed to view me as some sort of enemy from the get go, just because I had some big scary robots. What kind of nonsense is that?! But I will transport you people back to the city with me. With you all with me, appearing all happy or whatever, I will look like a friendly figure! They will have to come to me for protection from my evil! You super-soys will be my props, and once I have the people on my side, sorry, but, buh-bye" (cue Syndrome chuckle).

The top of the lift hill finally has come ,and you are riding at a much faster pace now, through the city (you are on the top floor of the whole building, riding over the other show rooms/queue). The city is on fire, cars are being "blown up" by robots (screens here, its 2004, but physical sets for burning city buildings like Pirates, as well as for things like fire hydrants broken and getting a few guests on the left-hand side of the vehicle wet, or spinning/falling destroyed cars). Since you are riding at a rather rapid pace through the city, it feels much more urgent and exciting. A Mr. Incredible animatronic is shouting "Over here, guys, help!", but with a sudden vehicle turn, you see Syndrome. "They're with me, hahaha, SORRY!". Amidst robot animatronics are the other supers trying to fight them, with a spinning Dash on a track around one, Violet using her force field power for a special effect (really just under a plastic dome with projections coming on it every so often), and Elastagirl trying to hold some down. But the greatest hero? Jack-Jack!!! Mr. Incredible is holding Jack Jack, and needs to get over to Syndrome to have the baby destroy him and his master board controlling all of his electronic evilness. So, to let him get there Frozone freezes the ride path in front of you (don't worry, he's chill about it, apologizing and all, like a very cool guy)! This effect is pulled off by just having water under a very clear piece of glass, with is projected to look frozen. With guests having to make a sudden turn with the ride path though, the effect isn't really analyzed critically, and thus it appears very real.

After this turn, you guessed it, is the big drop! The doors open up, and you go down a 40 foot plunge down into the city on top of the ruined buildings! You even go under a tree that looks like it's falling under you! The real innovation in this ride is in the excitement of the drop, which has some roller-coaster type elements. Much like Splash Mountain, the drops are all secret on a track and not free-floating, and with this technology, the drop doesn't just go straight down, but once it gets close to the bottom, it starts to make a bank turn and race back into the building like a half circle, splashing up water as it goes round, getting onlookers of the ride wet if they want to stand there!

There is one more scene once reentering the building, aside from going back into the Super Hero headquarters. It is back in the city, and Syndrome, is being held up by the neck by Mr. Incredible, all dirty and burnt, shivering in PTSD fear of Jack Jack. Mr. Incredible thanks you for the hard work you helped in for completing the mission and saving the town! After the boat pulls in, you exit, back near where you entered kind of but more to the left. Oh, and for an awesome e-ticket like this there's a gift shop of course!:geek::greedy:

Studio Backlot Tour Changes
Because this new addition goes right up against the Studio Backlot Tour like LMA, the tour will have to get a bit of a modification. The the tram leaves Catastrophe Canyon and starts to pass the attraction building, a new behind the scenes script lets guests in on the secrets:

On the right hand side of the vehicle is our newest addition to the MGM Studios, The Incredibles: Menace in Metropolis. However, you will be getting quite a unique view, unlike what you would see outside of this backstage tour. Hopefully the backside of Catastrophe Canyon got you prepared to predict what's it going to look like! That's right, the massive city skyscrapers are just facades, with no real backside to them.
This is used all the time in movie making, as it isn't needed to spend money on what the camera doesn't see. I know what your thinking though, The Incredibles wasn't filmed on a movie set! In this case, the facade trick is used simply as part of our theme park design, as we like to think of ourselves as putting on our own production here in the parks. For more on Pixar's CGI advancements and a behind the scenes look at the making of The Incredibles and movies like it, you can head to the Magic of Disney Animation after the tour.

The tour then continues on as normal until it reaches its close by exit.

Overall
The layout of these two new attractions will have Roger Rabbit on the far right side of the map provided, with an entrance facing the Muppets, with the massive facade and show building for Incredibles in essentially the same area as LMA, just moved to the left a bit. The BLT layout will remain the same in relation to the buildings.
lma map.jpg

As you can see, this expansion will be great way to keep the park exciting and provide a great strengthening to the attraction count and quality of WDW's third gate. (Also, ya know, hopefully if this is here, in a decade or so, instead of building Toy Story Land, they'll build a full fledged Pixar area:rolleyes::p) Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

Chili's
--Yensid Valley--
walt-riding-lilly-belle.jpg

Backstory

As Disney's MGM Studios segues into a new era of premiere blockbuster thrill attractions, such as Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, the park needs an area that is for families and delves into not only movies but the genesis of the creators themselves, most notably Walt Disney.

Yensid Valley will be a full fledged replica of Walt Disney's backyard (next to the Backlot Tour) and an extension of the Streets of America. As the Streets of America turns towards San Francisco, you meander down to the valleys of California and arrive at Walt Disney's estate on Carolwood Drive.

Carolwood Drive will be the transition from and attached to the Streets of America, now dividing off into the "Back"lot Tour, and Walt Disney's "Back"Yard...all in the "Back" of the theme park -- keeping things consistent!

Essentially partial areas of the elongated, original Backlot Tour and Residential Street will be removed and replaced with sprawling hills and green valleys reminiscent of the California Valley. While the design will change for the theme park itself, the premise behind the addition will be to create a sense of oneness with film, Disney animation, and the genesis of this all, Walt Disney himself. This will give guests a behind the scenes feel of how Walt Disney grew up, what he enjoyed, what he cherished, and providing that within the context of a studio park will give guests this behind the scenes look at the man's life.
Carolwood-Pacific-Railroad-Layout-8x9-MTH-RealTrax-001.jpg

It's fitting that once the park celebrating his 100th birthday in 2002, plans for a "Walt Disney" land shot up, however no plans were made in regards to the removal of the Sorcerer's Hat, which still stands strong in front of the Chinese Theater for some reason...

Nevertheless, the Yensid Valley concept would consist of the addition of a large and expansive miniature railroad family attraction for the Studios...an attraction style that the studios desperately needed. Furthermore, the park would also see the renovation of the popular walk through of Walt Disney One Man's Dream, and have the premise of the walk through be converted into a dark ride attraction, adding to the park's capacity and attraction lineup for guests. Also providing a much needed thematic home for One Man's Dream in the process.

In addition, compared to the other parks and resorts, MGM Studios has been known as a "concrete jungle" among avid theme park aficionados, and thus, Yensid Valley will provide much needed greenery, trees, water, and other natural elements to the theme park devoid of it aside from Echo Lake.

Lastly, aside from all of the attraction aesthetic upgrades and this expansion would bring, it would also lead to the possibility of futher usage of the park's backlot and animation corridors of the park, and be a bridge for future expansions to come -- see more after the presentation.

Southwest View - Streets of America/Backlot

(As you approach the area, you can travel to a variety of different areas:

1 - Carolwood Drive
2 - The Carolwood Pacific Railroad
3 - Walt Disney One Man's Dream
4 - Walt's Barn Quick Service
5 - Fair Weather Gifts

Attractions:

1 - Carolwood Drive

30143730283_ce1c19e953_b.jpg

Extending off of the Streets of America will be another American Street transitioning off of them, called Carolwood Drive, the street that Walt Disney used to live on in California. Carolwood Drive will then divide off into the Backyard area of Walt Disney's Estate. While not exactly to scale for thematic reasons, the spirit of the area holds true. What we will get to later on is if you walk to the left, you will walk into Walt Disney's "home" or Walt Disney's "barn". Walt's home will now hold One Man's Dream, an omnimover dark ride that follows Walt through to how he became the visionary that he is. If you go straight, you will arrive at the Carolwood Pacific Railroad, which is a miniature railroad modeled after the one in Walt's backyard. Through the ride, similar to Storybook Canals and Casey Jr. in Disneyland, you will be able to ride through the animated stories of classic Disney films, the ones that Walt Disney had a hand in creating.

2 - Fair Weather Route - the Carolwood Pacific Railroad

cp_logo.png

Walt Disney's love of trains will shine through in this location. You can ride around on a miniature railroad set akin to Casey Jr's train at Disneyland. On the attraction itself, it will be stylized to ride past, in chronological order, the various films that Walt Disney produced, as well as the Mickey Mouse cartoons that evolved into Disneyland and eventually after his passing, WDW.

Narrated by Julie Andrews, this attraction will be a family friendly and capacity friendly whimsical journey through Yensid Valley.

Attraction Style:
30662538942_d1759abf71_b.jpg

(Attraction similar to Casey Jr.)

Rolling up and down hills and valleys, this attraction will be roughly 5-6 minutes and offer guests a relaxing ride through classic Walt Disney films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr Toad, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and more.

Ride Vehicles:
30143729023_298b4a01dd_b.jpg

Although it would be fun to ride with no restraints on miniature trains, I'm pretty sure that MGM Studios would not pass its safety exam if they had an attraction like that.

So instead, using a miniature train similar to Casey Jr. in Disneyland, the miniature railroad will ride through the valley at moderate speeds, providing a relaxing family environment...almost like MGM's peoplemover! Trains have a rustic, old-time feel to them similar to what Walt would have had in his backyard decades ago.

Load/Unload Area:
30742738846_27dc5f4359_b.jpg

As you load into your train - you hear "When You Wish Upon A Star" faintly playing in the background. The trail blows steam and whistles as your narrator (Julie Andrews) begins to describe your journey:

"Welcome to Yensid Valley - a place where dreams come true, let's all follow along as we travel through timeless tale sof animated Disney classics created and designed by Walt Disney himself. The train proceeds to leave the station, make a sharp left turn and ascend up a valley hill.

The Ascent
30779264305_23dfdf4dda_b.jpg

The melody from Pinocchio then shifts to "Some Day my Prince will Come" from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, as Ms. Andrews continues:

"In the late 1930s, a new form of entertainment came to the Carthay Circle Theater in California, a full length feature film of animation."

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
30662539252_7d9819b7b1_b.jpg

As you continue up the hill and down a slope, you see Snow White in her tower to your left as the song melody continues around you. The train whistles and rides bast in the the next collection of scenes. The next few scenes see Bambi and Thumper in the forest to your right, as well as Dumbo and a circus area to your left, representing two early films of Disney animation.

Overlook of the Park
Highest Peak - 35 ft
30143732673_d8ac47d9be_b.jpg

The train then rides up a hill once again to get a grand view of the area. You can see the streets of America to the left, almost reminiscent of the journey Walt Disney took to travel to California in search of his dream. This is hinted at in the narration, as the train makes a turn and slopes back down the hill.

In addition to the various films representing in Yensid Valley, the area also has several props and realistic story telling manuvers that make you feel that you are in Walt Disney's backyard. Authentic signs and railroad crossing plaques are around the vicinity as well as signs that tell you how far Walt Disney's Barn is as well as a variety of other areas around his old estate.

The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad
30742740106_4f251e4142_b.jpg

Continuing on the journey you then slope down to the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad, where you see a replica of the Headless Horseman riding in the distance among some scary looking trees, as the narration explains how the animation has advanced and will continue to advance over the coming years as Walt Disney and his team become more and more accustom to different art techniques and story-telling methods.

Transition Scene
30143733063_2a9d83d96e_b.jpg

The miniature train whistles again as you pass under the overhand you just came from, and go through a little crevasse in the hill, hiding the next scene from view.

Peter Pan and Finale Scene
30742739876_c6cf80fff0_b.jpg

The train comes out to a large ship on its left side as Peter Pan battles Captain Hook on it as you pass by and the narration continues. As you turn back towards the finale scene, you see a body of water to your right hand side. At night, this body of water is illuminated to show the "second star to the right" and during the day, you see Jiminy Cricket as the narrator gives it over to Jiminy, where he emphasizes Walt's passion for dreams and dreams coming true if you put your mind to things. All it took was one idea and a passion for that idea to become a worldwide phenomenon. The trains then whistle once more and re-enter the unload/load area for the next group.

3 - One Man's Dream

Walt Disney One Man's Dream will move down the street to Walt Disney's House in the Yensid Valley area. You will queue through his foyer and living room and into the "imagination room" where you will board Omnimovers and journey with Walt Disney through his life.

You begin on a train to California where you see Walt drawing Mickey Mouse. The next few scenes then cut through various Mickey Mouse cartoons such as Steamboat Willie that Walt Disney then created with the idea. The idea of Mickey Mouse would soon evolve into films and the next scene is Walt Disney outside of the Carthay Circle theater for the premiere of Snow White, as hinted at in the train ride. The following scene show Walt in the drawing room and many of the illustrations that Walt Disney had on the walls during the brainstorming sessions. The next scene depicts Walt watching a carousel while sitting on a park bench, where he came up with the concept of Disneyland. You then flash to Main Street USA and the opening of Disneyland as it becomes a success.

The finale is Walt's dream of Disney World and Epcot as a whole, as you see the plans and the Disney World Florida Project Video on a large screen (akin to the ending of the Great Movie Ride) as the ride comes back to the unload station.

At the unload station, you can walk into the post-show area, which is attached to the quick service restaurant and Fair Weather Gifts, where you can see all of the blueprints and plans you saw at the One Man's Dream attraction before. With the plans for Expedition Everest soon to open next year in 2006 being the most updated of the bunch.

Outside of Walt's House, you can see a bed of "lilly" flowers in honor of his wife, Lilly.
30143729963_bb02b41185_b.jpg

4 - Quick Service - Walt Disney's Magical Carolwood Barn
2016BBQ.jpg

The Carolwood Barn will be a quick service location that you can walk to serving bbq hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, french fries, onion rigs, salads, sandwiches, and various beverages. It will be accessible from the post show area of the One Man's Dream attraction via a covered walkway, or from Carolwood Drive.

5 - Gift Shop - Fair Weather Gifts
carolwood_pacific_letterhead_by_unknowninspiration-d4jq90r.jpg

The gift shop in the area will house a variety of quintessential Disney merchandise. It will be located at the exit for the One Man's Dream attraction, as well as a separate entrance and exit for people in the park and on Carolwood Drive.

Conclusion
lillybelle-studio.jpg

Overall, this land will not only be a tribute to Walt Disney himself, but will fit with the California theme and the more "backlot" area of the MGM Studios Park without resorting or relying on big thrills or studio productions. Instead this area will add to the majesty of Walt Disney, and Walt Disney World as a whole, by providing a unique location in a Disney Park,, and an additional "street" (Carolwood Drive) to tie in with the various other "streets" in MGM Studios, and an additional part of the Streets of America.

Furthermore, as I hinted to before and will end on this note. This expansion/overlay will open up the doors for how Disney handles the park in the future, hopefully allowing them a way out of the limbo the park is currently in today.

Disney's MGM Studios is currently a thematic mess, with now real thematic bounds. However, Yensid Valley will offer an opportunity to blend the rest of the park around the values of Walt Disney himself - and take a name away from the Disneyland Paris Resort, by naming the park, Walt Disney Studios.

Naming the park Walt Disney Studios in 2008, instead of DHS, after the addition of Yensid Valley in 2005, will in turn allow Disney and WDI to navigate the future of WDS around Walt Disney and Yensid Valley. Rather than throwing more IPs into the park and just having separate lands with no cohesion, Yensid Valley will change the narrative of the park going forward being about building on your dreams and building on the legacy of Walt Disney himself.

Now, adding a Pixar Place, or an Animation Courtyard area of Frozen, or a Star Wars Land, would blend into the purpose of building on Walt's legacy and that it all started with him. A film park with all Walt Disney products in it, and a place in the park devoted to showing where it all began using Walt Disney's backyard entertainment as a metaphor for it all.

Thank you for reading!:)
