Have any of you had a lens that really changed your photography? (for the better, or worse).

Recently it has been the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. I used to love taking night shots, wasn't really good at it but I liked it, and now I am all about portraits and "macro". I am also using the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 for wide angle and I am liking it too. But day after day that 70-200mm stays on that camera. Of course these are the most recent ones before I was all about the 50mm f/1.2.

Tokina 11-16 2.8. Really allowed me to get a fresh perspective on a lot of (what I consider to be) tired subjects. If I ever make the leap to full frame, the first lens I get would be the Nikon 14-24 2.8.

I've been interested in one of those (althought they seem to be hard to get hold of). Have you got any WDW examples with that lens? Thanks

I like to keep my photography hobby as cheap as possible. If something exceeds my lens capabilities, I'm happy just letting someone else (like you) photograph it.

I had a thing for the cheap old 50 mm f/1.8 for like a year, and then got tired of it and rarely take it out of the closet anymore.

Check out his Flickr, he's got a ton of awesome pics with that lens. So awesome that it made me buy one too! :) Adorama & B&H both had them in stock recently (albeit briefly).

Just a few of many examples (honestly, just go to my Flickr page...I use this lens 50%+ of the time):

etc, etc, etc.

I would have to say my 50mm f/1.8.
For months I just shot pictures of my kids with it wide open. Its the first time I realized I could tell a story with a picture instead of just capturing a moment. Before that I was always say cheese and pressing the kids to look at the camera and smile. Then one day I caught a moment when my daughter was laying on our boat with a flower in her hair just looking at the water and I snap a photo that I later blew up and framed on my wall. I have not asked anyone to say cheese again.

Yes. My favorite type of people shots are candid ones.

:)
