Credit limits raised at Walt Disney World Resort hotels

The Epcot Manifesto
Correlation does not imply causation.

Because prices have gone up does not mean that they are the cause of the credit limit increase.

That would be embarrassing. Sorry that you had to deal with it. Now I think I understand what you all are saying a little better. I've only ever had a package (rather than room-only) and it's paid in full when we arrive. If room charges were going on the card then we'd be at the limit quite often.
:) not your fault, but thank you. And that WAS part of our issue, we're in State but not local so we're room only all the time.

Quick question. I usually like to use cash or gift cards when I pay. If I charge to my room, and want to go down and pay cash or use a gift card at the end of the day, will that charge never actually hit my credit card, or will they preauthorize the card and just let the preauth expire?

I had assumed the charges were systematically charged to the card on file when the limit was approached. Never have I had to authorize the charge to clear out my room account, other than at the very start of my stay when adding my CC to the account. Hearing now that some folk have had their purchases denied as their accounts did not clear out automatically makes it seem as though this is not an automated process, but one that is manual in the back office. Can you imagine how busy those folk must be with the lower limits?

Given this, I think the limits being raised have more to do with Disney's staffing and to a lesser extent, the transaction fees paid out to CC companies than the guests actual spending, although it probably is true that folk are hitting that limit more often than ever before.

It's timing more than anything. It should not hit your card at all unless you somehow hit the limit before you go to desk (they CAN reverse it and put the cards through if that does happen, it just takes a bit for the process) or if you don't get to it the night before check-out (it's going to process everything that night and if you have any charges the day OF checkout, those will hit separately).

I am kinda confused. Since this will be the first time we are going since the full implementation of the Magic Bands. I planned on having my Disney Visa already linked to my acct . I also planned on loading some Disney gift cards to my acct. I assumed, (this was probably my first mistake :)), that when I tapped my band and entered my PIN that the charge would immediately come off of the gift cards first. Then once those were depleted, my cc would start getting charged. Is this wrong? I am kind of lost...

If I had to take a guess -- and this is only my own wild speculation -- I'd say that this was done simply to encourage people to spend more. Suppose I tie my debit card to my Magic Band, and I check my account on a daily basis. If they're flushing out charges after $500, I'm going to see that hit my bank account more often than if they're doing it after $1,500. I'll notice it sooner, and be less likely to spend more. If they don't flush it until $1,500, the charges seem more "invisible," and I'm more likely to keep spending.

They don't load your gift cards onto your account at the resort unless something has changed. They do, however link your credit card to your Magic Band and can be done in advance like you said. :) Your card gets charged to start with any balance you might have due (you CAN use your gift card here) and then each time you get to/close to your limit (timing is iffy). You have to be proactive and present your gift cards at the desk AFTER charges have been made on your account, but before your limit processes to your credit card. If the latter happens, you can have it reversed, but it's a process.

Price increases, yes. But primarily it's the Magicbands. They want to reduce the inhibitions to spending more...

(Not to mention reducing the amount of individual credit transactions - meaning the Mouse paying far fewer transaction fees)...

The bands or room charges actually reduce credit card fees by combining multiple sales into a single transaction.

I must be in the minority because with the magic bands I actually don't charge as much as past visits. I think it's knowing it's so easy that I take the approach when considering a purchase, do I really need or want this and 9 times out of 10 I put it down. Guess that's weird but that's the way I approach it. Also as others have mentioned, there's not a whole lot I really want there. The previous amount is way more then I need.

I am so tired of the ridiculous comments that add absolutely nothing to the discussion, but are simply constant digs and smartass attempts at jokes. I have found new life on this board by actually using the ignore button. Thanks for being another candidate.

I agree with you 100%. Disney can raise its prices as much as they want and they do not have to answer to anyone. They can even close half of a parks rides (I'm looking at you DHS) and they can still charge full price and they can even raise that parks admission price if they so choose to do so. And please stop with the childless jokes or even worse...barely thought out attempts of what you call a joke. It's embarrassing...pathetic even. I will IGNORE thee.

This is good news. For those staying at a Value resort, you could hit your limit pretty easily in the middle your trip requiing a phone call or a trip to the front desk

You must be eating off property to get away with paying only $60/day for four on your room charge ... or you're on the DDP.

DVC usually stay in a 1BR or larger so eat some meals there but with the huge inflation of food prices. Ie Dinner at Boma now 50 bucks pp and depending on date can go as high as 64!!! Being a Scot those kind of prices simply drive me off property because Disney dining is not worth that kind of money. The dessert parties going up 2x in price this summer.

Just because I'm on vacation does not mean I toss fiscal prudence out the window

Disney grubbing for that last dime at least for me has caused me to reduce my Disney spending. That 2-3K is still getting spent but no longer at Disney

Really? Which particular prices have increased faster than the rate of inflation? If you are going to hijack a thread then at least add some context instead of dropping a lame attempt of humor and leave.
Ticket prices, room rates, parking - pretty much everything has been increasing much faster than overall inflation in recent years. That's been documented plenty of times in other threads.
