Waterproof mattress pads?

hello!
I'm putting this in hotels instead of the kids forum, but it could really go either way. Somebody move me if I'm in the wrong place.

We head to the world in less than 3 weeks! Yay! And we'll be staying in a 2 bedroom villa at Boardwalk. It will be my parents in the master bedroom and me, DW and DS4 on the studio side.

At home DS is totally potty trained and is dry through the night 99% of the time, but when he's especially tired (like from walking around Disney all day) he sometimes sleeps so deeply that he wets the bed. We do not want a wet mattress, so we are trying to figure out the best plan. He will just sleep in the queen size bed with us, not on the couch. Here are the options we have come up with:
-buy and bring a plastic mattress cover and remake the bed when we get there.
-buy a shower curtain (cheaper?) and put that under the sheet when we get there.
-see if the hotel has waterproof mattress pads available to borrow

He strongly objects to "diapers" of any kind, so pull-ups are out and we have tried the disposable stick-on absorbent pads, but they are too small since he moves around a lot in his sleep.

With any of these options, I assume we will be able to call housekeeping and ask for new sheets? Since it's DVC they don't come every day. We don't mind making the bed, and would tip whoever came with the clean sheets. Does anybody know if the DVC rooms have extra sheets in the closet? I feel like I've seen some, but maybe that was pillows or blankets. If we're remaking the bed in the middle of the night, it would be nice not to have to call housekeeping until the morning.

I don't expect it to be a problem, but just in case I want to be prepared. Any helpful thoughts?

With the way Disney makes their beds, you aren't going to successfully put anything under the mattress cover/sheets. You're going to have to put something on top that's not going to move when the kid sleeps and will soak up any accidents.

Just a tip, you might want to consider taking a mid-day break for your son so that he can nap. This would probably cut down on the possibility of him being overtired at night and having an accident. Just a thought.

We are definitely going to try to have some rest during the day at the hotel, but he gave up regular naps at 2 years old, so I'm not optimistic on sleep. Hopefully down time will help.

My first thought was something like the sanitary pads they have in hospitals and nursing homes that they put on the beds?Disposable.

That's why I mentioned the puppy pads. They're smaller, but basically do the same thing. We had to use them for my elderly mom during the last few months of her life.

You know what's funny?
I was just going to let this slide, but I can't. The OP didn't make lame excuses - her child doesn't nap, and occasionally might wet the bed when overtired. Sounds pretty normal to me, and in no way does that mean the child "runs the show". The OP asked a simple question in order to prepare for the possibility. To me that's just good planning - anticipating a possibility before it happens.

Yep. Just normal stuff that many other parents think about and plan for just in case.

OP...we went in July with our almost 4 yr. old DGS, who is potty-trained . However, like yours, he is fine at night unless overtired. He also hasn't taken a regular nap since he was two. We took a waterproof mattress cover (Target). We got an extra sheet from mousekeeping and tucked it in ...across the bed (folded it in half), just so it covered the mattress cover. We didn't have any accidents, but since we were in a villa, we had come prepared to wash the linens and mattress cover if necessary.

As an early childhood specialist, I would advise against reverting to Pull-ups or diapers. This will send so many mixed messages to your child.

Enjoy your trip.

Excellent advice. Spot on.

OP, print out this post, paste it to an index card, laminate it, and then walk away from this thread. It's all down hill from here.

I honestly don't care what you are. And secondly, they asked for advice, I gave them advice and they have proven that they don't want to take anyone's advice here and that their kid (as another person has said..runs the show). So that was the reaction with the meme. If you don't like it you don't like it. So let it be, you don't have to agree with me or anyone else here it's a forum. Relax.
Technically, I asked for helpful thoughts. And was primarily asking about the options I listed. And if anyone knew what the hotel might have and whether I could get new sheets if I need them without causing a huge hassle to housekeeping.
My kid doesn't "run the show," but I do recognize that he is a person and forcing people to do things that greatly upsets them, despite his being much smaller and forceable, harms them.
I was asking for advise about sheets. If you have any advise about sheets I'm all ears.

Thanks. This is our fall back plan. I'll ask housekeeping when we arrive for an extra sheet.

I'm really blown away by how hostile people got out of nowhere. It seemed like a simple question. Thanks for being a reasonable human being. It's greatly appreciated.

So many people love to think they are the perfect parent with perfect kids and do the job much better than anyone else.

Don't let the comments of a couple of ignorant posters who stir things up in every thread bother you. There are a lot of normal and helpful people here who understand.

+10 points for being a grown up and not responding to the trolls on their level. I'm not sure I could have written something quite as tactful after reading that nonsense. My just-turned-4 year old also hates pull ups but she wets the bed nightly, sometimes more than once a night, so we compromise with wearing underwear with a pull up on top of it ("just in case"). Thank you for reminding me to pack twice the number of necessary underwear for my trip!

I'll be honest, I don't like to post on here even when I know I have a good answer. Simple questions get all turned around etc.

We've never gotten rid of the crib mattress pads. Ours are older and not absorbent. Just water proof. We use them if someone has the stomach flu, needs special ear drops applied (that can run out and stain sheets or furniture.) etc.

I know some parents "tape" them to the bed if the kids move around a lot.

It's nice you should have a washer and dryer, I suspect, if one gets soiled. Don't forget to take them off the bed and back home.

And, if you have a car to pick up supplies, the hospital type pads are great too. I have some on hand as well.

Enjoy your trip!!
