Pre-Trip "Wait, Did We Just Book a Disney Trip?" Pre-Trip Report

Let's start with a little back story shall we? I've been going to "The World" for years (see my signature for details). Started taking DH the year we met (2004) and have been taking DS7 since he was 10m old. We are no strangers to vacationing at Walt Disney World yet somehow, we've never managed to really experience the Holidays on property. DH and I visited in December/January years ago when we had APs but they were quick day-trips only. We've never seen the Osborne Family Lights or the Dreamlights on Cindy's castle so lately we've been talking a lot about how "someday" we'd have to plan a trip during the Holidays.

We had some unexpected expenses over the past month that resulted in having to create some high interest credit card debt, as well as having to take a small loan from my father. DH and I decided we'd take out a loan from my 401(k) to get it all paid off and reduce our monthly payments.

As I was modeling the loan I said "I wonder how much the payment would change if we built in enough to go to Disney." We had a Free Dining PIN in my inbox that expired on 8/14 so it was awfully tempting. DH and I laughed and did our usual "wouldn't that be nice?" thing but then we modeled the loan and realized even with adding that in, our monthly "out" would still be less than it is now to pay the debts. We went back and forth for a good 3 hours about the pros and cons of doing it and then finally settled on "screw it, let's do it!" :D

The Players
Jenn/Mom = Me!
Bill/Dad = DH
Aaron = DS7

The Logistics

We're still debating doing MVMCP. We've never done it (obviously) but we also don't want to over extend ourselves so we'll see.

As of 10/18 we were able to add FP+ selections into the mix so figured I'd share what we came up with here as well!

Wednesday: PPF, Under the Sea and POTC
Thursday: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Nemo and Dinosaur
Friday: TT, Soarin' and Maelstrom

So there it is! Whatcha think folks?

I agree with the comment about Boma! We tried it in August for the first time (dinner) and it was awesome! Enjoy your trip!!!
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to trying that one. I've heard about it for years but could never manage to get an ADR so I'm psyched!

Advice that I intend to follow on my own that was something my grandparents always bugged my parents about and led to us taking annual vacations was, always take the trips and create the memories...wherever...Disney, west coast, east coast, mountains...wherever but spend the time together because you never know what tomorrow holds. Sure it might be a little expensive...but don't ever regret not doing it.

I'm taking my first "holiday" trip this year as well!
I too believe in those words and am trying to get my family started on annual vacays. My MIL dosent see my view she keeps telling me the kids wont remember but i think they will and we need it.

Exciting! I think we have almost the exact same dates (although I leave on Sunday. Wanted to squeeze one more day of magic out of it)

Have a blast!
Thanks!! :) This last trip in March we did that. We were supposed to leave Saturday to drive back home. We decided it'd be a waste of a day left on our ticket to leave at noon and last minute added a hotel about 2 hours North so we could stick around the entire day and then leave, get some rest, and finish the drive. The way we built this trip though we won't have the extra day on the ticket so hopefully we stick to the plan. Knowing us though we'll wake up Saturday and say "let's go play some minigolf (or whatever)" and end up doing it again. LOL

Yay! We arrive the day before you & we're still waiting for ours to come!:arghh:
What day does it say you have to customize through on MDE? Ours was 11/1. Got the e-mail last night they had shipped and they were here at 9am today. I couldn't believe how fast! Gotta give them credit for that!

I was able to customize before we got the invite and once I did, it said 11/1. The invite I got however says 11/21. I bet if I really wanted I could go in and customize again to get another set but no point obviously. I wonder if you're in the same boat (i.e. you'll get yours any day and that 11/20 was the "other" option).

Tada!!! Now the curiosity will be... do we, like many others have reported, end up with a second set when the date that was on the invite rolls around? LOL

Quickie update... just secured our FP+ for Be Our Guest on the 4th! Our arrival time is 1:10-1:40 so we have two options as I see it:

1) Head to lunch after Peter Pan's Flight (arrival of 12:00-1:00) and then after lunch jump onto Mermaid (arrival of 1:25-2:25)
2) Jump onto Mermaid and hope we get on and off in time to jog next door to just make it for BOG at 1:40

Thinking we may go for option 1 but if we're still full from breakfast I'm positive we can make option 2 work. The ride is 7 minutes long so it'd be tight!

Order Summary
Aaron - Whole Grain Macaroni w/ Peach Applesauce
Bill - Roast Beef Sandwhich w/ Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake
Me - Braised Pork w/ Master's cupcake

I was REALLY tempted to go with the tuna because it looked really good too but being that it's going to be a relatively chilly time of year I felt that the warmth of the pork would be better. LOL
