Universal to host singles weekend

Nothin' says lovin' like a snarling T-Rex.

Universal Orlando is looking to goose business -- and maybe other things, too -- by dedicating the Labor Day weekend to a three-day singles event.

There are lots of special-interest events held at the local parks, but this appears to be the most elaborate to focus on unmarrieds looking for a little romance.

Like its Halloween Horror Nights and Mardi Gras, Universal's U-Nite Florida will gin up after Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure close for the day.

There'll be parties, speed dating and something called nTag -- a pager-size device loaded with personal information that buzzes when you encounter a compatible person.

Universal didn't sponsor any events for Gay Days this year, and U-Nite seems geared to straights -- though a spokesman said everyone was welcome.

And, while finding the love of your life while riding Jaws -- billed as "three tons of Great White fury" -- seems a little unlikely, there's no question about the size of the solo market.

In addition to local singles, 20 percent of adult travelers come here alone or with buddies, according to the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

But if you want to get into this thing, you better be well-heeled in addition to lonely: Advance tickets will be $199 for two days and $299 for three days.

The beeping pager idea sounds kinda HOT, actually.

If there are any hot single girls that want to go round and round on Hulk, then I've got a ring waiting for them. Hah
