Tips for a rookie HKDL tourer?

My boyfriend's family may be making a last-minute decision to go to HKDL next week when they visit. I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to WDW, but I haven't been to any of the other parks.

So do any of you have any advice which is useful for a first-time visitor (who otherwise isn't planning out their visit, nor has done any research, grrrrr....)?

Focus on the non-clone attractions first - Mystic Manor, Grizzly Gulch, any of the rides you're interested in at Toy Story Playland.

Space Mountain, Festival of the Lion King, Jungle Cruise, it's a small world and Buzz Lightyear are substantially different from or better than their WDW counterparts. PhilharMagic and Pooh are exactly the same.

See the Paint the Night Parade if it's running, as well as Flights of Fantasy (but if you have to pick one, pick Paint the Night). You'll probably find @WDWFigment's guide really helpful:
