Tigger's Nose

I've wondered that myself. I can only guess that the black nose is actually a kind of mesh for the costume-wearer to see through and/or breathe. And maybe that's important in the parks because of having to walk around a lot in the heat.

Tigger is one of my all-time favorite characters and I've never noticed that before... but - wow... good question?! Mind. Blown.

I did a little googling and great minds think alike because a few others had asked the same question here (and other places) years ago - here's some speculation/answers:

But this seems to be the best answer (warning - clicking may take way some of Tigger's Magic):

"Actually, I asked a friend last night who's friends with him and he looks out the nose. The mouth is a meshy foam but it's mainly used for ventilation. If you look in a certain light and angle, you can see right through his nose (saw it yesterday during ACF which further more backs up my friend's answer)."

In the Disney Live shows Tigger has a pink nose so it is doable.

Plenty of characters see through colors other than black.

It depends on which part of the head they're actually looking through, and how the light hits that area. If it's going to offer a straight-on view and would allow sunlight directly into the performer's eyes, darker is better.

If they're looking through the roof of the mouth or some other obscure area (like the neck of a bear), they can use other colors that match the surrounding fabric better.
