The nice people in Disney World

Unfortunately there are a few people you see in WDW that are crabby and annoyed... but the majority of the people seem happy and very friendly. I am just curious if anyone (I know people have) has had any experiences in Disney where they felt someone went out of their way to do something nice for them, or for someone else who was a complete stranger to the person.

I am not really talking basic like helping people find rides or attractions because I think we all here have done that before, I am talking... things that stick in your mind

Like this, and I am sure there are a lot of people that would have done this, but some might have realized it wasn't that big a danger and let my mother or father help me out. But, when I was about... probably 6 years old, I was at Typhoon Lagoon, and I was in the wave pool with my family. Well i was too little and my mom stayed out and watched while my father, sister, and brother swam wayyy into it. Well, a wave came in and was a lot stronger then me and started carrying me out into the deeper parts where i couldnt touch anymore. Soon I found myself swimming as hard as possible against the current. Now it probably didnt seem like much of a danger, but I couldn't get in, I was entirely above water, but the current kept pulling me further out and I some guy I noticed on the shoreline saw what had happened... and I really did not appear to be in any kind of danger (because I was clearly swimming... or trying to swim) but this guy came running out into the wave pool and swam after me, and then grabbed me and pulled me to the shallow part and took me to my mother. And my mom was confused and I just remember the guy saying something about how it didn't look like I was safe and that I was getting pulled into deeper waters...

I was only like 5 or 6... but this sticks in my mind like it was yesterday because this guy really seemed to just kind of notice that I really wasn't just leisurely swimming, but rather fighting this current which was pulling me away from the shallow parts.

I just thought it was extremely nice, and wanted to hear other people's stories where people noticed others (or you yourself even) go out of their way to help somebody else when they didn't need to, and it stuck with you.

One day in June, I was at the Hat in MGM Studios, and the characters were switching off. All of the characters had an attendant escort them to a door, except for Piglet. Piglet started to walk towards the door, but I guess he got lost. He went over to a cart and leaned over to a CM, who said "Oh no, Piglet. Are you lost?" And Piglet nodded. A guest overheard this, and came up and said "Piglet, I saw some of your friends go to that door over there." Piglet did a little excited bounce and started walking in that direction, but then slowed down again and looked around. The guest went back up to Piglet and said "Want me to take you close to where they came from?" Piglet nodded again, and the guest walked him right by the little fountain next to the Great Movie Ride.

I thought that was the neatest thing, that a guest would do that for a character, and not ask if he could get an autograph or a picture or anything.

About eight years ago, I had just finished enjoying a day in the parks when I was walking back to my room in the corridors of the Beach Club. All of a sudden, the woman in front of me collapses and slams her head on the wall. I left my sister with the woman and I ran back to the lobby to get the paramedics. I always remember that when I am at the Beach Club.

Nice stories. Well I am a Cast Member, but even when I am in the parks as a Guest I do what I can to continue the magic. I have not done many great and wonderful things, just nice things. One of my favorite memories though is at the Ride-a-thon in Fantasyland. All the characters were being brought together to ride the Carousel, now we are talking about 30 characters. It was an incredible moment. Well they were trying to rally all the characters together, but of course those attending the event (either Cast Members, family / friends of Cast Members, or people involved in the Arnold Palmer hospital) would do all they could to get their picture with a character as they were walking out.
I noticed that my favorite, Donald Duck, was having much difficulty making his way to the Carousel, you would have thought he was Elvis. So I put my arm in his and said "Hi Donald, do you need me to take you to the Carousel?" He nodded and as I walked him over from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh we skipped along and I explained to everyone that he had an important engagement and invited everyone else to skip along to. It was fun, it involved other Guests, and it allowed Donald to get to his spot on time and not delay the magic of 30 Disney characters riding Cinderella's Golden Carousel.

While walking through EPCOT on one visit to WDW, a little girl came up to me and grabbed my hand while I was walking (she thought I was her father by mistake). After walking for a few steps I looked down at her and asked her name. She was then really scared, and I calmed her down and we found her parents. Both were real happy. I always heard of kidnappings at WDW. :lookaroun

a little girl came up to me and grabbed my hand while I was walking (she thought I was her father by mistake).

:dazzle: I've done that before, I was around 5 years old and my Dad & I went into a gas station in some state. Well a few minutes later I ran up and grabbed this guys hand and was like "Let's go Daddy" the guy just gave me a dirty look. Then I found my REAL Dad
Very scary, but funny at the same time

Hey thanks a lot, I love the Flatts, saw them in concert about a month ago... great show, GREAT MUSIC

anyways back on topic... I just wanted to throw this out there

This forum is filled with genuinely nice people. I mean, I started a thread last week on this forum about a camcorder issue... and people coulda gotten mad because it didnt belong there... but instead I got 14 replies and A TON of help. My issue had ZERO to do with WDW, and I felt bad... but i needed help, and I got a lot of it, and I wanted to thank those people;

Marni1971, dolbyman, Matpez, Thrawn, Jekyll Baker, and McArcDes

Very helpful and they did not need to be

I have come across TONS of other VERY VERY VERY helpful people who I seem to see at every thread where advice is needed... and I just think thats what this forum should naturally be about...

it defenetely shouldn't be about spelling... also ain't for grammar... its not about religion, race, ethnicity, or anything else prejudice...

I know there are TONS of people out there with stories of nice people they have met, talked to, seen doing nice things, in WDW... and thats why we keep coming back... its a safe, nice, happy place... which is why I appreciate when just about every person on here is on here because they enjoy WDW and because they are WILLING to be that person the stories (only 4 so far :( ) are about...

So thank you to the forum and to everyone... absolutely everyone, I've only come across one person on here I felt was a distraction and deserved to be banned... and they were for their racist views... besides that, thanks to everyone!

Please, lets hear some more stories, I know they're out there, its Disney we're talking about

:sohappy:

I have not had a personal experience like this, but have rather enjoyed reading about others! The only thing I can think of is when we were waiting in the line at MGM for Mickey and it was time for his break, as the CM guide was telling the room he would be back in 5 this little girl at the front of the line and said something in the saddest voice, and Mickey stopped and took one last picture. I just thought it was really sweet and the look on her face was priceless in that picture.

Most of our experiences like this involve CMs going above and beyond the call of duty. However, I have noticed that this "extra niceness" does seem to be contagious and guests are all nicer to one another at WDW than they probably would be anywhere else. People strike up friendly conversations while waiting in line, return a dropped hat to a stranger, smile and say encouraging things to a child who's excited or nervous... It really IS the happiest place on earth!

A few years ago, my extended family and I (I'm an adult in a wheelchair) were getting lined up for the parade at MK. For those of you who don't know the spot at the Hub, the front row across from the Tomorrowland Bridge is reserved for wheelchair guests, and the space behind that for their companions to stand. Before long, a kid of 10 or 11 who was obviously very challenged was pulled in next to me, and his family went back and was waiting for the parade with my family behind us.

When the parade started, it was pretty obvious that this kid was having the time of his life, he couldn't do much more than move around a little, and almost slid out of his chair when he did, but he was having a great time. Then Donald and Goofy came over, lifted the rope, and pulled his wheelchair out in the street with them so he could dance. Donald was his favorite and he was so excited, he was just about screaming. Score 5 points to the castmembers for that one.

After the parade, I was waiting for the crowd to clear and no one was pushing me anyway, when I looked around and saw my parents talking to this kid's parents. I saw that my mother looked sort of offended, which is abnormnal for her at Disneyworld - she gets bitten by the happy bug and doesn't heal until she leaves.

I finally found out what happened. The parents of the kid had said they wished they had had a camera when he got taken out to dance. My mother overheard and just started snapping pictures for them so they wouldn't miss it. After the parade, she told them she had, and asked for their address, and while the lady was writing it out, the father was going to all of his kids and asking if they had any spending money left. He took what they had, and tried to give it to mom for the developing and postage, and explained that they were there on a Make-A-Wish trip and would never have been able to go at all if it hadn't been for that. Mom was looking offended because they wanted to pay her for these pictures. She had been telling them that was nonsense, that she'd just do without her usual afternoon Mickey bar and it would all be fine, joking, since my parents have never wanted for anything in their lives.

Mom's sister works for the Post Office and travels the country a lot, and had been there with us and seen the whole thing. She was going very near the family, and hand delivered the pictures, along with the extra copies of her other pictures so they could have them to remember their trip.

when i was in magic kingdom by myself i found a seat right infront of the castle to watch cinderellabration-i was sitting on the edge of the garden by the statue of walt and mickey. i was sitting there 45 minutes before the show and this aussie man sat by me on my right and a woman and man from chicago where on my left. i asked her the time and she asked me where i was from and i asked here where she was from so we got talking. we both said that we wanted to see a storytale with belle so she asked her husband if he would mind her and my seats and he said yes . so we went to see belle which was fab then when we got back to watch cinderellabration people where sitting anywhere they could but me and this woman had our seats already.

the woman was really friendly and nice - i mean i was a complete stranger to her as she was to me but i was glad i met her.

I love being a CP. When you're in the parks by yourself, people try to be extra nice, I've even had people offer to be my family for the evening and take me to dinner with them! I always politely decline, but it's nice to know that people want you to still feel like you're with family when you're somewhere so big.

I remember when I ate at the 50s Prime Time Cafe for July 4th, I was sitting next to a family of teenage girls and their parents. I was sitting all by myself, and we just struck up a conversation. The parents and I were cutting it up with the waiter, and they asked me if I'd like to join them to watch the fireworks. They even offered to have our tables pushed together and pay for my dinner! I said thanks, but I'm treating myself after a long day at work (this was one of the first days where the heat index spiked to 107!), and the parents STILL insisted that they pay for my dessert.

I wish people were as nice to me at work as they are when I'm a guest. Maybe it's the fact that I'm there to serve them, then pitying me for being alone.

I wonder if it was a character attendent or a friend of a character on their day off. I'm not saying it couldn't have been a guest, but most people wouldn't have done that. When I was at Disneyland 2 weeks ago, I saw Mickey being MOBBED by people who were flashing camera flashes into his face. I know I couldn't do anything to stop it, but my character greeter came out in me (it's been 2 years but it's still going strong!) and I ran over to the attendent and told him what was happening. Until that point everybody had dispersed for the most part, but I knew I couldn't just let those people hurt Mickey!

A LOT of people are *SoOo* nice at WDW... When I was staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (it was pouring rain and I just came back from Disney MGM studios, so I was drenched) I was doing some laundry. While I was waiting for that to get done I would go outside underneath a covered walk way where the life guards, CM's, etc sat and talked and helped guests. Well I was there for about in hr doing laundry coming in and out of the building... A very nice CM named Clint talked to me for a while, and he had asked if I watched the animals with the night vision goggles. I told him no, everytime I went down there it was too crowded. He told me if I got there about 5 minutes from 9 pm he'd let me and my family be first in line :sohappy: ... He left a few minutes after we talked and came back with a strawberry daiquiri & we talked some more. I don't think he knew how old I was :zipit: But that Strawberry daiquri was *GOOD* :D & yes, he let my family and I be first in line for the night vision animal watching :)

EDIT: Sorry if this post is inappropriate at all because underage drinking is stated.

One night when Saratoga Springs had just opened we drove over from our place at Old Key West to check it out. There was a CM at the front desk that stayed and talked for about an hour or more about the hotle and parks. And it was about midnight when he did it too. Just nice that he took the time to chat about disney even though it was so late.

Sounds like Clint was putting the moves on you big time, Pixie. That would be another interesting topic for the boards -- things Disney CMs do to try to pick up guests.

Nice chatty people

I always appreciate any time someone is willing to strike up a conversation while we are standing in line, or waiting for a parade or fireworks show, or sitting next to each other at a restaurant. Prime Time 50s cafe seems to lend itself to this especially. I've met really interesting people from all over the world this way. It's even more magic when we run into each other again and again during our stay, and stop and catch up on how our trip is going.

HAHA, and you know what was funny?... My boyfriend called and about 5 minutes into our conversation good ol Clint came over and sat down. He's like, tell whoever is on the phone that I said Hi, and that you're having a lot of fun at the Animal Kingdom Lodge
