Though Star Wars Celebration 2017 hasn’t even kicked off yet, Lucasfilm has officially announced that the convention won’t be returning in 2018 and instead will next take place in 2019. They wrote the following on their official site:

“Celebration is the official, definitive Star Wars event, with entertainment, interactive experiences and exclusives that can only be found at this Lucasfilm production. They are the ultimate community fan gathering as well, and friends will want to start planning to be together again to commemorate everyone’s favorite saga. The next official Celebration is slated for a location and date soon-to-be announced, in 2019.”

Fans expected Star Wars Celebration would have become an annual event once it restarted in 2015 with the Star Wars franchise itself releasing a new film a year. 2018 won’t be entirely Star Wars-free though, as the Untitled Han Solo film will be released on May 25, 2018.

Lucsfilm did make two more announcements about this year’s Star Wars Celebration, confirming that Dave Filoni, executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, will host a panel on Saturday, April 15, featuring some special guests and a sneak peek of Star Wars Rebels‘ fourth season. In addition, Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), and Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla, Star Wars Rebels), along with Matthew Wood (supervising sound editor at Skywalker Sound and voice of General Grievous), will be signing autographs at the Star Wars Celebration Autograph Hall.

Star Wars Celebration 2017 takes place in Orlando, Florida from April 13-16, 2017, at the Orange County Convention Center. Some of the previously-announced guests for the event include Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), who will all be signing at the Star Wars Celebration Autograph Hall; plus Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.

Ah, Another Disney budget cut, Why should Disney spend a nickle catering to the rabid SW fans when they will be opening their (probably craptastic) SWL's DW and her BFF are the Star Wars fans and they go for the VIP packages I stay home because frankly I'm just not that into SW. They are heartbroken because their favorite joint activity has been canned by Disney.

My guess is Disney does not want to see the comparisons between the show quality of the Celebrations and the quality of the 'in park' SW attractions. SW Celebration full scale model of X-wing vs Star Wars (Failure to) Launch Bay - poor quality prop replicas... Celebration 501'st trooping in screen accurate costume vs the 'Star Wars Fashion Show'.

Pathetic Disney, Just Pathetic. and anyone expecting this back in 2019 is deluding themselves.

It would make sense to bring it back to the newly expanded Anaheim Convention Center mid 2019 after Star Wars Experience opens. Those two Experiences seem like they would fit well together, especially with all the many fans who would want to see it.

2019 will be a big year for Star Wars. Conclusion of this series, celebration, and Star Wars Experience.

Guess Celebration Europe IV is coming in 2018.

Funny that the Celebration events in America line up with the release years of the sequel trilogy... (2015, 2017 and 2019)

Experience would dictate that this is a routine development and that 3 annually sequential conventions is the outlier and not the norm.

Disney does not want competition for their likely underwhelming SWL. Just as SWW weekends were replaced by the craptastic 'Seasons of the Force' promotion. And how the SWW went down in quality the second the ink was dry on the Lucasfilm contract.

Disney wants to extract value from the SW IP not do any heavy lifting on their own Which means licensing cheap plastic toys made in sweatshops located in various armpits of the universe for pennies and sold for first world prices.

How did Lucas recently describe what happened with the Disney deal

"I sold my children to slavers"

Yep that describes 'Today's Disney'

How much, if any, money would it save Disney if this was cut? Disney doesn't run the event, so they could actually be loosing money by cutting it since they won't get the licensing fee.

We are still devastated. D-E-V-A-S-T-A-T-E-D that Star Wars Weekends is no more. Thanks for the land in 2 years, but the social interaction and joy of being among other Star Wars freaks around the world in one place still will be missed. :( ...And now this :in pain:
