I just booked on the Magic, sailing from New Orleans in January. Any tips for must-do activities in town before we board? Hotel recommendations?

We like the Westin and the Hilton at the river. Both walking distance to the Vieux Carre. Although you probably can't go wrong with any one on Canal Street. Red Fish Grill is always a good place for non-expensive meals. Maybe Bourbon House or Arnaud's? Also, get a po-boy. I wont recommend as I haven't been in a while. But ANY native will tell you the best place as the see it (Frankie and Johnny's?).
As far as to do, I would have said Aquarium of the Americas but the was pre-Katrina (which devastated the collection). Maybe the National WWII Museum. Stay away from Riverwalk, way too generic American mall. There is the zoo but, again, not sure what the experience is actually like since Katrina.

Just bumping this to ask again if anyone is sailing with us on the Magic on Jan. 31, 2024??
