There may small gap indeed between the 1982 theatre and the bakery kitchen added in the past decade.

And crowding will be an issue. I dare say a separated exit lane will run along the entrance / queue route.

As much as I like imagining myself darting through the gift shop, and sprinting down the corridor to beat the opening rush to the Rat entrance, it probably would cause havoc for there to be access that way.

I suppose it's going to be it's own little Splash Mountain-like cul de sac.

The artwork makes it appear that the eiffel tower is moving to on top of the Les Halle building from the IdF theater building.

As was said earlier, for the concept art the tower is made to appear 'behind' those buildings. A little Eiffel Tower on a roof does not good concept art make.

@marni1971, I might be a bit maniac for analyzing every post of yours word by word (XD), but should we be worried that you referred to the IDF theatre specifically as "the 1982 theatre", as if Impressions de France were to go away anytime soon?

I think he is just trying to distinguish between the theater that is original to the park and the bakery kitchen that was new construction a few years back.

Treat the entrance to the new pathway as the entrance to the attraction. Treat the new pathway as an exterior queue.

The Mickey ride is intended to open around the same time as Star Wars Land. The park needs it.

But if for some reason it does get delayed, it could open in 2020 with this Ratatouille ride. Perfect marketing opportunity! The mouse and the rat! Market the two rodent rides together and whoolah... crowds will descend on WDW like never before! Next year you have two big boy launch coasters to market together... oh boy! Imagine how high they could raise ticket prices!! :greedy:

I suspect a seamless IDF?

When was that film last updated? I know i saw something about new digital circlevision rigs having been created, and think they mentioned China specifically, but last time I remember seeing the films, they looked pretty dated.

Is there not a gap between the Les Halles Bakery kitchen and the IDF theater? An overhead view on Google Earth shows a narrow space that looks pretty empty apart from a theater service stairway and bakery rooftop access (which I assume could be relocated):

Looking at YouTube vids, it looks like there's an existing emergency exit door from the Les Halles gift shop into this area, so in essence there's already access.

So once Ratatouille opens, I guess the doorway could be widen, the corridor themed, and the space put into general guest use?

Perhaps the biggest drawback is trying to manage crowding. The eastern half of the France pavilion is already pretty narrow and gets jammed as it is. It may be best to keep Ratatouille crowds to the outside of the main pavilion on the new paths rather than giving them access into the existing areas.

Another overhead. You can see how narrow the existing path past the ice cream shop is.

This new layout reminds me of a huge mistake that was done when they designed and opened the Alladin hotel in Vegas. The hotel and casino was built with a huge mall the wrapped around the sides and back of the property. They had a large entrance on each side of the property. Guests walking the street would go into one of the entrances and continue thru the elaborate mall and wrapped around the whole property and end up on opposite side and exit. As the months progress the hotel and casino began to see the troubling effect the layout had caused to both the hotel and casino. Rarely did people walk all the way Into the property and enter the main center entrance. Since the mall had no direct visible access to the hotel and casino revenue was bad.
Eventually the hotel shuttered and was renamed, rethemed and redesigned so that several arteries were added from the casino andnhotel floor into the mall area.

With the France pavilion, if they do not consider adding a connecting area to the main pavilion a similar effect could happen.
There can be two possibilities

1) guests will have a difficult time finding the off to the side entrance corridor Into the new French plaza for ratatouille especially if walking counter clockwise on world showcase

2) guests will find the entrance because of proper attraction signage and then skip the main pavilion which might decrease guess flow Into the France movie, eateries and shops. This would be even worse if the new addition was built with two access points only. The one left of the pavilion along the canal and maybe another on the opposite side which is now an unused expansion pad. In that case WDI would have created a "U" shaped pathway around the pavilion.
I would HATE if a "U" shaped pathway design was created and ratatouille court was kept as a full separate area which would eventually decrease flow Into the IDF theater. This Would give TDO an excuse to gut out the theater and turn it into some kind of themed area for a ratatouille expansion. that would be terrible for the pavilion as a whole

That is fantastic news. With the new China film coming down the pipeline, I'm glad they are retaining the films to a degree.

No, but it is a 180 show with seams that could potentially be replaced now.
Yes but it feels like more an artistic reason. With CV it was always supposed to be a 360 view of the scenes but technology limitations forced them to have separate screens.

With IDF they don't have that limitation (super wide screen film and projectors have existed for decades) so it was maybe a creative choice to do it that way.

Maybe - I think it was basically going to be another 360 movie, but a wise operational choice was made to give the audience SEATS! and save money on not filming the other 180 degrees.

Going back to the flow, am I possibly missing the access point to the new pathway? Currently, there's the arcade that splits the two perfume shops on the right side - which would be one connection between (kind of) new and old. Then, if memory serves me, they could easily take out the wall or very small bathrooms near Les Halles and open that up to the new pathway right near the ride's entrance. Given the new buildings, there could easily be restrooms added elsewhere to make up for those very small ones.

Relooking at this concept art- it makes France look incredible. Even without the ride itself, just the addition of the show building adds so much more height and detail to the area resulting in a significantly more immersive environment.

I've always said every country needs a restaurant and a legitimate attraction. Some could be a very good theater- like China or Canada- but they certainly need more ride based attractions. Japan, Morocco, etc. Take that into account while adding only 1-2 more countries, so expansion pads could be used for attractions. And can we get rid of Africa at WS already? Do this and Epcot is an immediate 2 day park. Maybe even more.

5th gate? No need. Epcot is ripe for even further expansion around the world all while incorporating thematically appropriate IPs to the world. As a secondary benefit- this would make each country even more immersive thanks to themed show buildings.
