Pirates 4 World Premiere

^^^^ Hmm, I hadn't thought of the need to arrange the seating differently due to the new 3D effect. This should be interesting to see how they do it this time.

Here's a picture of a previous bleacher setup where they were able to keep the Rivers of America attractions running until the very last minute.

Davy Crockett Canoe passes the movie bleachers prior to the Premiere
ROABleachers1-062903-AVP.jpg

This time however, all river attractions have already been shut down completely for two weeks while they assemble the bleachers and movie screen. This should be interesting to see what they come up with for 3D.

Just a side note, this doesn't confirm the world premiere, but it sure does look like it will happen. On another note, the DL calendar is now only posted till May 3...

Fantasmic! also has no showings past April 24th.... hmmm

I stayed up to watch the clocks change to Daylight Saving Time (my wild lifestyle!), and this has popped up on the front page of Miceage early Sunday morning...

"Editor's Note 3/13: The big Pirates IV movie premiere we noted in the last update is now a definite go. Saturday, May 7th is the date and they've decided on the deluxe setup on the Rivers of America. Disneyland will close early at 5PM and DCA will close at 11PM. Expect lots of River area ride closures and construction headaches to begin by early May. It would be wise to avoid visiting that weekend, unless your only goal is to be a screaming fan on the red carpet down Main Street USA. - Al Lutz"

It looks like it's on for another huge Pirates Premiere!

Was at DL today. The area around Rivers of America is a horrible mess due to the set up. River attractions and TSI are closed. No Fantasmic. There is a floating bridge form the shore (near Coumbia/Mark Twain dock) to the Island, where the screen is being built. Columbia moored near the dock, Mark Twain on the east leg of the river. Walls up in various sections around the river. Bleachers block off about 2/3 of the walkway around the south and southeast part of the river, making access to POTC and HM a pain getting through the crowds. Pedestrian traffice rerouted and one-way on some of the narrow availalbe pathways, requiring doubling back and going the long way around depending on which direction you're trying to head.

Add to that Splash Mountain closed for rehab, Star Tours of course still being updated, and you have a pretty odd period at Disneyland park for a couple weeks.

Yup, sounds about right. This is the fourth Pirates Premiere that Disneyland has done, and that's all pretty much par for the course for this event.

But, you can't stand in the way of progress and Hollywood!

Sigh. As much as I want to go again, I'm just too tired to put up with crazy people, the heat, and 14+ hours. I'll meet Johnny one day. I know it.

If DLR knows one thing more than anything of how to operate a theme park, its how to ruin vacations! :p

But really over the years its great to see DLR host these world premieres. I wonder if they will host the new Haunted Mansion and MK(that movies happening right?) movies?

Not sure about Haunted Mansion, but the Magic Kingdom movie is set inside Disneyland, so I can't think of anywhere else they would want to do it, unless they just go for a non-themed generic premiere in one of the big movie theaters in Hollywood or Westwood.

And as far as ruining vacations, can you imagine the shrieks of horror if they tried to do this massive Pirates movie premiere somewhere in the Magic Kingdom Park? I can't even think of where they'd do it really, since the MK's River setup is so different and overgrown with trees and not connected to Pirates in any way physically or thematically. But still, this massive undertaking is something only Disneyland could ever try and pull off.

Mansion's premiere I can kind of see but depending on its release date and if its in Holiday mode. It would be a bit sad to see the MK movie held in a theater when DLR has more than proven itself can handle world premieres all while the park is still in operation. Go TDA:ROFLOL:

I can't think of a place within MK. Course theres always the Fantasmic! and LMA's stadiums, but it lost lose its uniqueness as soon as I even typed that...

But I really do hope DLR will host more world premieres in the future. If I had an extra 1000 bucks laying around I would go in a heart beat. Good thing theres some contests out there

Wow! They always put up some cool pirate props in the water and around the screen on the last day before the Premiere, but this is the first time they've done waterfalls too!

The Studios and TDA both deserve a lot of credit for pulling this event off for the fourth time! Can you imagine the planning and talent that goes into this sort of mega-event in the middle of operating the world's most famous theme park?!?

Only at Disneyland!

Two big updates on the Disney Parks Blog today, one from Tom Staggs who seems to gush over how well Disneyland did hosting this event. When you read the first post of this thread with the Al Lutz note from January that first broke the news on this event coming to Disneyland again, the comments from Tom Staggs seem even more, um, interesting. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/05/yo-ho-yo-ho-a-pirates-night-for-me/

And a look at the event itself with the party and movie and fireworks. Talk about a night of 100 stars! http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...ribbean-on-stranger-tides-at-disneyland-park/

Bravo, Disneyland, bravo! :sohappy:

My wife and I attended the premiere and saw the movie and the whole shebang... Quite the night.

I'll not get into a long winded breakdown of the whole night, seeing as how the DL section of these boards isn't exactly highly traveled. :animwink: But if anyone has anything specific they'd like to know about the event or about the movie itself, ask away and I'll be happy to answer.

Just a note, too... We attended the last premiere as well, and while this one was a good time, they definitely cut back this time around for the people in attendance. Overall a great night, but definitely cutbacks.

Just because we don't post a lot doesn't mean we aren't lookin'!

How did you like the movie?? Without posting any spoilers, of course, just an overall opinion.

Here's a few quick thoughts on the movie:

- It does NOT need to be seen in 3D.
- Very little of the old cast returns. In fact, the only crew member of Sparrow's that returns is Gibbs.
- This one doesn't have tons of CGI. There's nothing like Davy Jones' crew, for example. This movie relies more on the actual storyline, which I was happy about.
- This one still has a couple action sequences that are so outlandish they're ridiculous... Like the swordfight in the mill wheel from the last movie.
- This movie still has SOME supernatural aspects to it... Meaning basically that the whole movie couldn't really take place in the "real world"... But it's not nearly as supernatural as the last couple were.

My wife and I both liked it better than the second and third movies.

Also, if anyone wants a pretty detailed account of my experience the whole night during the premiere, check out the "Inside the Magic" podcast from May 8th. I was interviewed for the show and talked about the whole thing. The part about the Premiere starts I THINK around the 28 minute mark.

Excellent news! When I heard they were making a fourth movie right away I said that the only way it will be successful is if they drop the stupid CGI stuff and focus on the story. Overall, sounds like Stranger Tides is more live movie 1 and less like 2 and 3.
