When the Gameshow network first came out I was totally addicted. Every night they had The Match Game marathons - I watched when I was little (I think in reruns) but didn't get the jokes. SO MUCH FUNNIER as a grow up!!

Me too! I loves how back then the "big stars" went on game shows, guest starred on shows like The Love Boat and risked making a fool of themselves on Battle of the Network Stars (one of my all time favorites!) You'd never see stars of today doing that!!

It's a cane - hence the word canning. Still given as punishment in Singapore, I've heard.

I guess a teacher might have used it for pointing, but that wasn't it's main purpose.
