Faaaab trip report!!! Sorry I'm super late to the party! I love that they have so many character stops along the way in the Marathon! Congratulations on that :happy:Its such a cool thing to do but I bet it was nice to get it finished & carry on enjoying your holiday. Jealous that you're staying at AKL- it looks absolutely gorgeous. Looking forward to the rest of your report :)

Thank you and thanks for reading! I think I'm the one that's super late! Super late finishing this TR! You really do get to meet so many characters it is my favourite part of the races.. Ye it would have even better to have the runs earlier in the trip and get them over with but it's just how the dates worked out. I LOVE AKL.. it's like our home resort now. I went back in the fall and we are booked to go back to OKW in October this year but myself and Rachel have booked two nights at AKL as well!

Day 16 – Bye Bye Parents
Saturday 16th January 2016
Part 2 – Just the two of us

After saying goodbye I had the perfect distraction... The wildest ride in the wilderness!

I seriously wish there was a ride photo on this! I love this ride... sometimes I think I may even like it more than Space Mountain... But then I go on Space Mountain and I change my mind!

There was a photopass photographer out in front of the ride, I've not seen one here before so took the opportunity to get some different photos

This is one of my favourite photos of me and Rachel at Disney! It's one of those ones that takes me right back to the moment and it just looks like such a beautiful day.
26591453070_7e511b2c6f_b.jpg

Rachel REALLY liked having the marshmallows at the camp fire in AKL so she was pretty insistent that we made it back on time to have some. I'm pretty sure it started around 5pm and lasted about 45mins or so. We left MK around 4.30 which should be plenty of time right?

We got to the AKL bus stop around and there was a few people in front of us. We waited... and waited... and waited.... A big line had formed behind us and people were getting really annoyed! I think in total we waited about 30mins which was very unusual for AKL and we were both getting very irritated and fed up. We were in a bad mood... I was already not feeling great having said goodbye to my parents so it probably wouldn't have taken much to annoy me anyway.

We pilled onto the cramped bus, luckily we had seats but it was really crowded and it's a long drive from MK to AKL and I knew it would feel even longer as we watched the time tick away hoping that we could still make it to the camp fire.

And then something happened that reminded both of us why we love Disney

Our bus driver was AMAZING!! First he started talking to us and telling us fun facts and throwing out some random quiz questions. After that he started singing! He was singing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and then the wheels on the bus with a special Disney twist.

This is why I love Disney... The extra little touches that make you feel like you are in a place of happiness and also make you feel like the cast members genuinely CARE about you and about spreading the Disney magic.

And... we made it with just a few mins to spare
32532243072_65de54a48d_b.jpg

YAH! Marshmallows! I definitely recommend doing this if you are staying in AKL!

We chilled in the room for a bit before getting ready for dinner at Sanaa. I know what you're thinking... we've already been to Sanaa.. BUT IT WAS THAT GOOD! I think originally we had booked Jiko but we swapped the reservations with no problems. I would really like to try Jiko one day but it was coming towards the end of the trip and I was happy to save some money and go for a cheaper option plus we REALLY liked our meal at Sanaa.

We got the shuttle bus from AKL to Kidani and checked in for our reservation. We were a little early so we went outside and got some night vision goggles to check out the animals. This was really cool! Definitely try it if you were ever waiting to be seated at Sanaa at night!

30904839502_3a896e4422_b.jpg

We weren't waiting too long before being called for our table.
26025519806_2c77386f99_b.jpg

Rachel was excited
26025520586_1e3a14efd0_b.jpg

Can you guess what we ordered for starters???

BREAD SERVICE!!
25446666464_bed2ffdb08_b.jpg

We still got all the dips even though it was just the two of us because half the fun is trying all the different flavours!

I didn't get a picture of our mains this time but we got the two mains with rice and just ordered two butter chickens because it's EVERYTHING!! There are pictures earlier in the TR of the chicken!

After dinner we were SO FULL but decided to get the bus to MK for a night time stroll! It was pretty busy as it had been all day so we kinda just wandered around. We went on Space Mountain but I think the ride photo was down.

It was nice just strolling around and enjoying MK at night.

We both got a Mickey ice-cream... Yes I realise I just said we were SO FULL but there is always room for one of these!

We decided to pop over to Storybook circus to see if we could meet some characters, we weren't sure if it would still be open but luckily for us it was!

Because it was later in the day (I think close to 10pm) it was really quiet and the characters spent lots of time with us...

Goofy wanted us to dance with him and had us in stitches!

After all that dancing he was happy to pose for a picture

Donald reminded us who was number 1

26796648171_a06d32c212_b.jpg

We didn't get time to see Daisy and Minnie before they closed up for night so we decided we'd go meet Ariel instead! There must have been something in the air that night because Ariel also wanted to dance with us! Maybe this is what happens late at night in the Magic Kingdom?!

First she demonstrated

Then we joined in

She was so much fun to meet!
26796674591_cf2bb4b8a8_b.jpg

We took another picture outside when we spotted a photopass photographer, there's not always one here but it makes for a lovely picture at night
26830384576_df138336e4_b.jpg

We decided to watch Wishes from back here which was really nice! It wasn't at all crowded and it was a very different perspective.
31826223004_fe92b3cc19_b.jpg

The Magic Kingdom was open until 12am but we were really struggling to stay out! We decided to go on one final ride before calling it a night
26830416566_4fd015435b_b.jpg

We got the bus back to AKL and collapsed into bed... Tomorrow we had an early start at Hollywood Studios!

We got up SUPER early the next morning because Hollywood Studios was open for normal park hours from 8am and EMH from 7AM!! It was really painful getting up out of bed but I knew ToT and RnR would be waiting for us! We made our way down to the bus stop and it was completely deserted! It was also still really dark out so it felt pretty weird!

We weren't waiting too long for a bus and made it to HS around park opening. We went straight for sunset boulevard!

It was EMPTY.. I LOVED these extra early EMH hours, it made such a difference to the crowds having them from 7am - 8am and as well as that a lot of the regular park guests didn't show up until 9am so you got an extra long stretch of low crowds. This was the same on our first day in MK and I definitely recommend taking advantage

26591314560_44b7a22a01_b.jpg

With crowds so low why ride only once...

26864166075_ed24fcd076_b.jpg

As you can see from both pics our lifts weren't even full... It was so much fun! We actually rode more than twice but for the first one the ride photo was down.

Rockin Rollarcoasters ride photo was down but you can bet we rode that plenty of times as well. There was a photopass photographer outside the ride on our way out so we snapped some pics

26258641454_96ddc8c2cd_b.jpg

We decided we were finished in HS and made our way out to get the bus to MK, stopping of course for more photos!

I HAVE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!!!

I started a YouTube channel with my sister Rachel so that we could not only write trip reports about our Disney adventures but also make video diaries (vlogs)!

Somethings are just better captured in a video! We actually started our first ever 'series' of vlogs for this very trip so I'll post a link here to our channel but I'll also link each of the videos back in the table of contents page. We have videos from every day of the trip including footage from each of our runs as part of the Dopey challenge.

If you like vlogs please do subscribe to our channel and keep in touch!

Good Morning Magic Kingdom!!
31047104365_ed87c6c40d_b.jpg

We hadn't got anything really in mind to do here other than soaking up the atmosphere and taking it easy. Of course a visit to MK isn't complete for us without a ride on Space Mountain and luckily we had some fastpasses...

Look at this for synchronized posing! The guy in the front is posing too!
32566619090_6a01ef3981_b.jpg

We decided to head over to Gaston's Tavern next for some breakfast.

Looked like there was some filming going on outside...
31047103555_8c1dee7069_b.jpg

We got the perfect combination...

Lefou's brew
31011360116_eb925db8be_b.jpg

and a cinnamon roll
30904865792_7a82d70111_b.jpg

Delicious as usual! I love stopping in here in the morning when it's not really busy. We took the obligatory photos in Gaston's armchair

30904861612_3ed1ffe56d_b.jpg

And then decided to wait to see the man himself! Meeting Gaston in a must do! He is so much fun to meet!

I love the photopass pics from this

Our next fastpass was for Mine Train... HEIGH HO!!

LOOK AT RACHEL'S HAIR!!
32906554996_b3c71bde2a_b.jpg

We had one last fast pass for Splash Mountain so we popped over there next... We totally wimped out and wore our ponchos though!
32103964274_d551dbd49e_b.jpg

After that we decided to head back to the resort and chill, we had a busy evening with dinner in Epcot and late opening at the Magic Kingdom...

Bus seflie...
30933000271_3e7455c16c_b.jpg

Back at the resort we took a trip to the Mara for some food and then chilled by the pool

After some relaxation we were ready to head to Epcot
32546749421_8955067f2f_b.jpg

We had a reservation at Le Cellier! We'd never eaten here before so I was really excited to try something new. We stopped to take a photo on the way into Epcot
32947648805_3b01375ac8_b.jpg

When we arrived for our reservation they were running a bit behind so we sat and waited to be called.

After waiting about 15mins we were taken to our table
32668856235_712bc97d9b_b.jpg

Now.. Rachel was due to get her exam results during our meal (she's sitting accounting exams) and so she was super nervous! I tried to distract her with food talk!

Luckily some bread arrived to help me out
31826214434_918ec16746_b.jpg

The pretzel bread was YUMMY! We both ordered the cheddar cheese soup and our waitress recommended keeping the pretzel bread to dip in it. Our waitress was lovely and also recommended a cocktail for me to try, she told us that she 'drank it like water' at home... remember that!

The soup arrived... it was delicious and the bread was so nice with it!
31826242204_23e84b7c18_b.jpg

We probably could have shared one though... Rachel's nerves has killed her appetite

My drink arrived... you know the one that our waitress could drink like water?
31856637473_ee5c93b69c_b.jpg

This was the 'Le Cellier Caesar' which was explained as 'A Canadian favorite featuring Iceberg Vodka, Clamato Juice, and a Blend of Seasonings'. Now I liked the sounds of seasoning and I was thinking a bit of spice like what you get in some of the drinks at Cava del Tequila. This was THICK... so HOT...and full of TABASCO... I don't know about you but I think tobasco is an acquired taste and I'd expect to see it listed in the ingredients! Also... HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU DRINK THIS LIKE WATER????!! It's the complete opposite of a drink that you can guzzle down like water... Anyway, safe to say I did NOT like my cocktail. Although I'm not a massive fan of tobasco I can drink it (a bloody Mary for example) it wouldn't be what I'd choose but if I'd paid for a cocktail I'd drink it. This I could not drink... it was SO THICK. The waitress came over and asked if everything was OK and I explained that the drink was too thick and very hot and she offered to top it up with a bit of juice. It did nothing. I didn't finish it.

Rachel's cocktail on the other hand...
31826240164_7c4e5fe0e0_b.jpg

Delicious!

I think this was the Torontopolitan but I'm not 100%.

We had decided to go with a selection of starters/sides instead of main courses.

31826238394_618aef0d5b_b.jpg

31826237054_4dcc7e36f5_b.jpg

The poutine (fries) was SO GOOD! The rest was nice.. but we weren't blown away.

I stuffed myself with poutine... like completely STUFFED!! Rachel FINALLY got her exam results (and passed YAH!) but that was towards the very end of the meal. I was so full but when offered to take the poutine away in a container I couldn't resist!

We left Le Cellier and I think overall we weren't impressed. I loved the poutine and the soup was really good too but I think the issue with the cocktail and overall slow service put us off a bit. I know we didn't have the full experience because we didn't get mains but I wouldn't be in a rush back. When we go back in October 2017 we will hopefully be able to get the soup and steak during food and wine and I think that will be enough for us.

We made our way out of Epcot and over to the Magic Kingdom...

Our first stop was Storybook Circus.. AGAIN! We wanted some pics with Donald in our race top and we missed Minnie and Daisy the night before.

31856634933_dbe65762fd_b.jpg

Goofy was in great form again and we got some fun pictures

32104004184_44aec3431e_b.jpg

We decided to ride Dumbo next! The last time we rode Dumbo I was 9 and Rachel was 4!!
31856633813_3bcbccd1df_b.jpg

WE HAD SO MUCH FUN ON THIS RIDE!! I took a video that you can watch in our vlogs if you check out our youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/doublethedisney) and Rachel was having a HEART ATTACK because she gets so anxious about cameras or phones falling on rides especially up high. Also that little door thing to get into Dumbo didn't feel very secure when we were up high! It was the highlight of the night for me!

We decided to call it a night... we took a photo with the castle on our way out
32947624515_e02e2c2d80_b.jpg

32906603286_133f768f34_b.jpg

And then it was home to bed... tomorrow we were heading home... BOO! But not before we had some more MK time... YAH!

Day 18 – Our Last Day
Sunday 18th January 2016
Part 1 – The last bit of magic

It's our last day..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

There is only place we like to spend our last day and that's the Magic Kingdom. It's the best place to go to soak up the last bit of magic.

We stopped for a picture with the castle.... AND the crane lol
32906579776_129d3ca1dd_b.jpg

We strolled down Main Street USA and took in every little detail... I love this place, it's my home... I don't want to LEAVE!

We watched the trolley show and I just tried my best to enjoy the moment and not think about going home..
31826221574_3378aeb2f1_b.jpg

We decided one of our favourite rides might cheer us up so we headed to Space Mountain
32947580485_4c777ecd5f_b.jpg

We'd booked some early fast passes so we went over to Mine Train next...
32103989484_f501b6ff8b_b.jpg

We made our to our next fastpass and final ride of the trip... well if it's going to be your final ride you might as well make it a WILD one!
31826209834_d1d18d9ea9_b.jpg

I love Big Thunder Mountain.. so much fun!

Now... the next thing we did I can't believe I've never done before. I've been to Disney so many times and I've read so much about this snack... I actually thought one time I had one but then it turned out I'd actually had something else...

Can you guess???

DOHL WHIP
31826209444_f3be0a18a6_b.jpg

O...........M..........G

It was SO NICE!!!

So.. how has this happened?! Why have I not tasted this delicious snack?! Like I said I thought I had... I had ice-cream from a place in Adventureland (name escapes me right now) and I think it might have even been pineapple but it was NOT a dohl whip float... This was DIVINE!!

After that snack we decided to eat some more! A trip didn't feel complete without a visit to Caseys so I went there to order a hot dog and grabbed a table while Rachel went to Sleepy Hallow for some funnel cake.

Rachel took a lot longer than me! I think the queue was pretty bad..

I got the chilli cheese hot dog... NOM NOM NOM
32668860045_f9c3496103_b.jpg
31826221094_b4af0cb51c_b.jpg

Rachel finally arrived with her funnel cake
31826220654_1a33e569f1_b.jpg

We savored our last meal and enjoyed our prime people watching spot.

And then it was time... that horrible horrible time.... when you have to leave Disney...

This photo says it all
32103994624_ee2f5d20f5_b.jpg

We walked slowly back to the bus stop... we had left ourselves some time to chill at AKL before our tragical express as we would have to SQUEEZE in our last few purchases to our already FULL cases...

We turned at the train station and waved goodbye...

SEE YA REAL SOON

Back at AKL we packed and left our bags with bell services while we had one last wander around our beautiful hotel.

We popped into the gift shop and I bought my last chocolate milk. Too soon we were boarding our bus to MCO.

At least I had my milk
32668857285_15a4cd755c_b.jpg

Our journey to MCO was uneventful and we arrived in plenty of time for our flight. We popped into the Disney Store and I bought a backpack (the same one Rachel bought earlier in the trip) which made my carry on luggage a bit easier to manage.

I wish I'd taken a picture but I think we were just too sad... boarding the plane we still had our matching navy Disney World sweatshirts on... our matching backpacks and our matching Dumbo pillow pets in our hands.

We settled down for the flight home.... until next time...

Oh ye... about that... so a couple of months after our trip when I was back home in Dublin for the weekend we were talking about our trip and how much fun we had and how much we were looking forward to coming back in October 2017 but it was SO FAR AWAY... Too far away... So I hopped online 'just to check' if it would be possible to go back sooner. And it was... two days later we were booked to go back to WDW in the fall of 2016.. TR coming very soon!!

I was also there in Oct of last year! Will be funny if we were there at the same time again.

Oh that's cool!! I hope you had a great trip! Haha you might spot yourself somewhere lol We have vlogs on YouTube from that trip so might have a better chance of seeing yourself in the videos lol

We were actually there end of August into the start of September... This year though we will be going in October, have you plans to head back?? Thanks for reading!

Great ending to a magical trip! Glad that you were able to book another trip so soon! Looking forward to reading all about it. :)

Aw thank you!! YES it was such a last minute decision to do it! Normally our Disneyworld trips are planned a year or so in advance!
