New leadership(?) for DVC...

Many DVC members received a note from Claire Bilby stating that she was moving to DLP and is to be replaced by Ken Potrock.

"Most recently, Ken has served as the Senior Vice President of Disney Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney in Florida."

I've got a bad feeling about this...

Most recently VP of DTD .....

Does not say for how long he had that position. I have seen VP's be in a position for as little as 6 months in other companies, especialy if they were put there as a placeholder until somone retired and a shift was under way. Maybe he had nothing to do with the past happnings at DTD (Or maybe he did, I have no idea)

Case in point, it was also involved in the past with DLC (I don't know in what capacity), and I think everyone is happy with the way that is bing run.

OK - Did a little digging. In 2008 Ken was Senior VP for Marketing for the DVC. At that point he was moved to SVP of global sports enterprises for Disney. Somtime after that he also picked up DtD. So anything that happend to DtD before 2008 (and for sometime after) had nothing to do with him.

Edit:

I found an article from 2010 that does not mention him associated with DtD - it is an interview and all that they mention and talk about is sports (He also producted the 2000 Supoer Bowl halftime show - interesting)

The earliest I find him associated with DtD is 2011 - and mostly involved with Splitsville - makes sense, bowling is a sport (sort of).

Word on the street (as in various aritcles and business journals) seems to indicate he is a well respected and compitent executive.

And in the end...

THE CONTRACT is the final word on how we will be treated. Go ahead - move people... but unlike anything else at WDW, we have a LEGAL DOCUMENT. Could just be me... but I LIKE that :).

That contract does have quite a bit of wiggle room. Perks, Welcome home Wednessday, Member magazines - all not contract items

They could have a crappy website - not a contract issue

They could hire very inefficent maintence staff - your dues would go up - not a contract problem

They could not do room refurbs - we would not be charged for them, but the rooms would become stale and worn.

By contract, they have to manage the properties. There is nothing in there about how WELL they have to manage the properties. Of course, members get a say and can voice their displeasure, but a contract does not make everything bulletproof.

Here's the entire message.

Claire Bilby Message to Members
Dear Members,

I want to share an important Disney Vacation Club organizational announcement with you, our Member families.

As Disney continues to identify ways to deliver the best-possible vacation experiences, the company is providing new growth opportunities for members of the leadership team. In this case, Disney is giving me the opportunity to lead the Sales and Marketing organization at Disneyland Paris, leveraging my depth of international sales experience.

I am thrilled about this new opportunity, which begins February 1, and also deeply proud of the great work our team has done over the past couple of years at Disney Vacation Club. The team has accomplished so much and truly elevated the benefits, perks and experiences we provide to our Members.

You will be pleased to learn that longtime Disney leader Ken Potrock is succeeding me at Disney Vacation Club as Senior Vice President and General Manager. I can tell you that you're in great hands with Ken. He is a wonderful leader, full of creativity and passion for the Disney brand, and extremely talented. Most recently, Ken has served as the Senior Vice President of Disney Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney in Florida. I have known him for a long time and couldn't be more delighted with his passion for the Disney brand, for innovation, and for always putting our Guests and Members first. In his new role, Ken will also have responsibility for Adventures by Disney, our family guided-tour business.

As I say "au revoir" for now, please know how much I have enjoyed my time with Disney Vacation Club and the privilege of getting to know so many of our Members. I look forward to Ken and the rest of the organization continuing to enhance the Member experience in creative and magical ways!

At Disney Vacation Club, it's all about you - the Member - and that commitment will never change. Thank you for vacationing with Disney year in and year out. We look forward to delighting and surprising you each time we welcome you home.

Sincerely,

Claire Bilby

Did you get that via Email? If so I wonder why I did not. I even checked my spam.

I also got that email. But my husband did not get the email. Maybe it is only sent to one email per contract and it wasn't yours?

I am hopeful that Disney will continue to provide us with good perks. Hopefully they will become even better!!:) I am also hopeful that Disney will maintain the resorts nicely. (A girl has to hope.)

Yeah my wife go it. So strange, sometimes things come in her name via the mail and other times its just my name.

Looking at the explosion of RunDisney events and the seemingly non-stop amount of activity at the sports complex, I optimistic that they picked the right guy.
