Pre-Trip My groom agreed on a Disneymoon, but will he love it?

Hi there! You may have seen me around, but this will be my first pre-trip report. I am beyond thrilled that it will be my DISNEYMOON!! Before I get started, let me properly introduce myself.

This is me, Heather, on my last trip to WDW back in 2012. (Far too long ago!)
Disney World 024.jpg

I took that trip with my mom and niece after going through a year long divorce. :( But life has changed so much in the last 5 years. Just around the time that I took that trip, I began dating someone. That someone just so happened to be a guy that I had met 13 years prior when I started working at the local Piggly Wiggly while in college. It was my first day on the cash register and he was a stock boy/bag boy. He asked me on a date that very day, BUT I had a boyfriend (who I ended up marrying) so I declined and he went on to get married years later as well. Fast forward to 2012 and we reconnected through Facebook. Come to find out he had went through a divorce at the same time as me and so we started hanging out. As much as I tried to not get "serious" it was only a matter of time before he swept me off of my feet.

My Prince Charming, Josh.

Now BOTH of us had tried for many years to have children with our ex-spouses and BOTH of us were told by the medical professionals that it was us that had an "issue" that prevented us from ever having any children. So imagine our surprise when a year later.....

Our miracle arrived!

Our family :inlove:

So like I said, a lot has happened in the last 5 years. We both decided that we didn't want to rush into marriage, having been through what we had. We got engaged 2 years ago and we've finally decided that now is the right time. On April 22, 2017, we will finally become husband and wife in a very small ceremony underneath the oak trees at my aunt's house.

Now, we have went back and forth on where we wanted to honeymoon or if we should even take one at all. Would it be just the two of us, or would we go somewhere with our son? At the end of the day, we decided we'd take a honeymoon, just the two of us. With so much happening over the last 5 years and so early on in our relationship, we have never been on a long vacation together. And let's face it...Mommy and Daddy need a break! But the where was still up for debate. Of course, my first choice was Disney. I've been many times, but he's never been. His argument was that he wanted his first time at Disney to be with his son. My argument was that he needed to experience it first as an adult without a child because when we bring our son it will be a very different trip. Finally he agreed because he knew it would make me happy! :inlove::happy:

Mommy and Daddy are going to Disney! (Shhhh...we aren't telling Cam where we are going.)

I hope I did not bore you with our lengthy backstory. o_O I've been super nervous about the planning process. My only wish is that Josh will have a great time and love Disney at least half as much as I do! (He does love Disney movies, so that's a bonus.)

Next: Trip details!!!!

So now that we have the whose going out of the way, let's get on with the fun stuff!

Where: Animal Kingdom Lodge

I am soooooo excited about staying at AKL! Not only it is my dream resort, but it will also be my first experience with a deluxe. We did not splurge for the savanna view but, fingers crossed, maybe some pixie dust will be in our future. But whether or not we receive an upgrade, I am still so happy to be staying here.

When: April 30th-May 7th

We will fly out of New Orleans some time after lunch on the 30th. Josh works shift work and will be working the night before, so I have to give him at least a few hours of sleep before we hit the road. We live in the Baton Rouge area and that's about a 45 minute drive to the New Orleans airport. The good thing is that it's only an 1 1/2 flight. I haven't booked them yet, but hoping to catch a good deal with Southwest. I keep checking daily!

Itinerary:

Sunday, April 30th - Travel day! My sister and brother-n-law live in Lakeland, so we will hopefully be meeting them at Disney Springs for dinner. I haven't decided on where we will dine just yet. That will all depend on flight times, etc.

Monday, May 1st - Epcot - Lunch at Via Napoli

Tuesday, May 2nd - Magic Kingdom - I didn't make any reservations for this day. I figured we'd just see where the day took us, but we will see!

Wednesday, May 3rd - As of now, this will be our break day. I want to explore the resort, spend time at the pool and do some shopping at Disney Springs.- Dinner at 'Ohana.

Thursday, May 4th - Animal Kingdom - Dinner at Sanaa

Friday, May 5th - Hollywood Studios - Lunch at Sci-Fi Dine-In. I've went back and forth on this reservation. I've read the mixed reviews on the food, but as a kid, I always wanted to dine here, so I said what the heck!

Saturday, May 6th - Our last full day will begin at Magic Kingdom - Dinner at Yak & Yeti

Sunday, May 7th - Back to Baton Rouge. I'm sure by the time this day rolls around I will be sad to be leaving Disney, but ready to get home to my baby. This will be the longest I've been apart from him since he was born.

That's it for now. 109 days until I'm back in Disney World with my new hubby!

Not sure if you've been at that time of year before but the weather is AWESOME!!! Very warm to hot with limited humidity. Perfect, to me at least.
No better way to dive into a deluxe than AKL! You'll love it.
Love how you're going to wing your first day at MK. We love touring that park without a reservation. It's so freeing.
SciFi food is good, but its of course known for its environment. Just remember you're paying for a good meal that gets the job done and you get to be under the stars at a movie!

Nice plans!

What a beautiful story! Cameron is absolutely adorable. :) Your plans look great.. AKL is amazing! I stayed there once as a kid and wish I would have truly appreciated how wonderful it was at the time. Hopefully someday I can make it back there. :D

Thank you! The original plan was to stay at one of the Port Orleans resorts, but he wasn't too keen on the idea since we live in Louisiana. Eventually, I just let him look at the resorts and AKL is the one he chose. I think he chose it b/c The Lion King is his all time favorite.

I haven't been to Disney during that time of year, but I've been in the area around that time with my sister living there. It is great, weather wise. Being from South Louisiana, I'm used the warmer temps and little humidity is perfect! My last trip was in September and that was hot.

I agree with you about MK. I just don't want to feel like I have to rush to be somewhere, especially with this being Josh's first trip.

Good to know! Thanks!

Loving your plans so far! I'm going May 11-15 and staying at the Contemporary! My first Deluxe too, cannot wait! My husband and I got engaged in Disney so he refused a Disneymoon (he likes Disney, but definitely doesn't Love it... yet).

I don't remember the food at SciFi, but I remember loving the atmosphere as a kid, and Ohana is definitely a must each trip!

My husband and I honeymooned at WDW as well and it was, by far, the most magical trip we had. I'm sure the March weather had something to do with it as well. So much enjoyable without all of that humidity dragging you down LOL. 'Ohana and Sanaa are two of my favorite restaurants on property. My husband got teary eyed at the first bite of the bread pudding at 'Ohana :) Not even exaggerating that! Yall will have a wonderful time and I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip :)

That'll hopefully lend itself to him loving Disney and wanting to return year after year! ;) I would love to stay at one of the Port Orleans resorts someday, too! Actually, I want to stay at all of the resorts someday.

I stumbled across this PTR and into a real life fairytale - I looooove a happy ending and boy have you both got one - and what a lovely story - & Cameron is an added bonus if you can say that about a child but you know what I mean!

I defy anyone not to like Disney and if he doesn't then divorce him quick - lol

Hurry up April so the trip reporting can start

Thanks for following along! There are times where we still think back and say to ourselves, wow, we can't believe we ended up together. LOL! And yes, Cameron is a wonderful bonus. :inlove: So right...he better like Disney or ELSE! I have a feeling he will though. ;)

Wow!!! That sounded like an actual fairy tale! Congrats!:D

March weather would be wonderful. That would have been a perfect time, but I was trying to avoid the Spring Break crowds at all cost. We actually chose the honeymoon dates first, then went from there on the wedding date, ha-ha! Really looking forward to Sanaa with all the hype I've seen about the bread service on other trip reports. And bread pudding from Ohana...yummm, making my mouth water!
