Lord of the Rings and more coming to DHS?

They've been making the pitch long before then, and are still making the pitch.

If they thought JKR was demanding, she's got nothing on the Tolkiens. I don't expect to see the property show up in the parks, even though I think Universal Creative could make one hell of a land.
That's kind of sad when a themed land could be beautifully reverent while A Lego Lord of The Rings game is making a joke of the story...

No one is safe from Lego, but Old Man Tolkein sold movie, play and merchandise rights to Saul Zaentz and the rest they say is history. Lego isn't making a joke of the story more the melodrama of the films which is perfectly fine to do so.

Not a big fan of "Black Pudding". But I am good with 2nd breakfast.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Cumberland Sausages/Lincolnshire Sausages made from real pork shoulder not the sausage you get over in the States. Also the Black Pudding AKA Blood Sausage that is served in WWOHP is disgusting - it may be because its been pre-frozen or that they are using a blood substitute with food dye.

For what it's worth, Disney isn't exactly blowing anybody's mind with Marvel in the parks they CAN use it freely. Not yet anyway. Until they announce something bigger than a virtual Iron Man game at Disneyland, WDW fans don't have to feel like they're missing out on anything.

^^ THIS. Thank you.
I can't help but laugh at the idea that Disney's Magical Lawyers will wrestle the rights to theme park attractions featuring the Marvel characters away from bad ol' Uni.
And then what?
It's not like TDO would build anything, even if they did have the rights. They have Mouse Arrest bracelets to implement.

I prefer theme park attractions that I can actually visit, thank you very much.

Corliss is reporting deal is done between LotR and Disney. I'm considering the source, but it was just posted. Can't post link as that URL is restricted.

Yes, that’s right. It sounds like Disney and Warner Brothers have either signed or are very close to singing an agreement that will bring “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” movie-inspired areas to the Disney Parks.

If true.... The Hobbit trilogy will be long finished before we ever see any artwork or actual plans.

I would love to see what Disney can do with LOtR but am not holding my breath, still waiting to see what they plan for Avatar & Star Wars.

It doesn't make much sense to me since he's claiming Disney is feeling the heat from Potter and keeping it out of Uni's hands. I've seen no evidence that Disney feels the heat.

This comes on the heels of rumors that it would be Universal that would acquire the theme parks rights several months ago.

Disney began talking to executives at Warner Bros. about the idea late last year, and it seems now that Disney is looking to finalize or announce the deal in hopes of turning the tide in the Orlando theme park wars.

Rumor has it that Universal Orlando’s parks may show stronger attendance numbers in 2014 with the opening of a second Wizarding World of Harry Potter area, actually defeating Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. This has Disney frightened.

With already announced AVATAR inspired attractions going to Animal Kingdom in the not-so-distant future, Disney is rumored to be overhauling a planned expansion of Hollywood Studios focusing to focus Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. It would seem that any Cars Land additions planned for the park are now on hold or may never be built so that Disney could quickly move along with these other projects for the park, opening them between 2015 and 2018.

While we haven’t heard anything about what a Lord of the Rings-inspired area would include, it seems that an announcement from Disney might be imminent.

As with any rumor, you should take this with a grain of salt until it is actually announced. Things often change, especially when negotiations with other companies are involved, so who knows if this project will ever see the light of day. Until then, it sure is fun to think about…

Well, we're not sure this is for DHS, but it would make sense.
I didn't think about this thread, posted the link as a new topic, and it's been taken down.
Sorry about that.
I figured this was another 'bus driver rumor' thread and an actual news
story on a rumor site was good for a new thread.

So, let's discuss . . .

Wouldn't any negotiations also have to include the Tolkien family?

I think the DHS part is speculation. It ALL might be speculation. TDO isn't spending any more cash, so I'm not sure where this would end up.

Wouldn't any negotiations also have to include the Tolkien family?

Indeed. I believe his rumor from earlier in the year had them involved.

If they really do get Hobbit theme park rights, part of me thinks they're just buying the rights so Uni can't - and they'll never actually do anything with it.

Or possibly, leverage for a trade for marvel rights back?

(that said, I really really doubt anything will come of the LOTR rumor)
