Al Lutz, who continues to provide numerous accurate stories from good recources has posted a new article on that age old website were mice tend to chat.

In it he notes that Imagineers have been given the blessing to experiment with placing cardboard cut outs of characters such as Peter Pan and Lilo and Stitch, and MAY ultimately create cartoonish 3D characters of them and place them in scenes.

At Disneyland by next november, one MAY see peter pan and friends soaring above the british children, or lilo and stitch serfing or dancing next to the polynesian girls.

Imagineers will also most likely be gutting and redoing the welcome and goodbye entrances. We in Florida only have a goodbye room and welcome arch.

Expect the tropical rainforest at Disneyland to be replaced with a salute to america, similar to disneyland paris' version.

Seems no one realises that the finale room IS America, a place where children of all ethnic backgrounds and cultures have come to over the years....with the most direct refrence being the cowboy and indian.

The flume and boats will/are being replaced to accomodate us Americans.

This needs to stop! I'm not even complaining that the ride is changing in certain ways....new boats, flume, paint, AA's, costumes, etc etc. All good changes for giving a classic and original ride a nice facelift like they did in florida in 2005.

Adding characters? NO!

This overkill of fads and commercialism that is killing off all the original and unique rides made strictly for Disney parks is creating a bad inbalance.

Stitch, monsters, nemo, three cabs, etc, etc

Hopefully this will not invade the original it's a small world, or our version.

I can't imagine what will be next.....Sam Eagle and the next president rappin' about our bill o' rights in liberty square.

I may have to pull a Merf and start a letter writing campaign....what should we call it? "Save the children?" :drevil:

I am serious though....they can get away with it in Hong Kong or elsewhere, but not in America, not where the original one is, dedicated to children around the world and for UNICEF, a ride that gets well over 1,000 riders per hour on busy days. The attraction and its song is known all over this country.

There's no need for more characters in disney attractions, especially ones created by walt disney and his original imagineers.

At least Lilo has to do with Hawaii...but what does Stitch have to do with it?

If done the RIGHT way...it won't be that bad. If the characters aren't blatant and they're used in "hidden Mickey" type ways...I'm ok with it.

For instance...if you have the hula dancers and one of them happens to be Lilo.

If, in London, you just see the shadow of Peter Pan on Big Ben.

If, in Paris, you see a teapot...or something like that.

Everything has to fit...and it can't be a character overlay.

they may be designed to look like small world children, a concept once played around with for WDW's small world i.e.peter pan and wendy would be small plump children.

Mulan would look like the drawing of those happy kids with the big cheeks you see on doors at chinese buffets.

Hill is like a broken clock, he still right every once in awhile...

Lutz is like a clock with the hands removed, he'll never be right, but the inner workings keep spinning to spite it all

we must be cautious :drevil:

if over 70% of guests to disneyland are native californians or locals, and if many of them feel strongly about small world remaining characterless, than hopefully the characters won't invade california's smallworld, and maybe someday down the road won't hit florida.

The most I can do is write a letter voicing concern over the possibility of them adding in characters.

Atleast anyone can act now and voice concern months in advance before the attraction reopens before placing characters into the ride becomes seriously toyed with.

i just had a horrible, HORRIBLE thought.
Just shut your eyes, and think of Stitch singing "It's a Small World"

Guys, again we're overreacting to a small deal. They're not removing all the dolls, taking the song away, or just demolishing the whole thing! They're adding small dolls to different sections of the ride. The scenes won't revolve around the characters any more than any other doll- unlike Jack Sparrow at PotC. Instead it'll be another in the many different things you might notice while riding- something to point at and say "They worked some characters in... isn't that clever?"

The ride's focus will still be the same. And just because Disneyland is getting this enhancement- yes, an enhancement- doesn't necessarily mean we're getting it either... Swiss Family Treehouse hasn't changed to Tarzan's Treehouse by now, has it? ;)

950th post and a rant!

Ummm...I don't know Lutz's OVERALL track record going back years and years, but he has been dead on the last two years in almost everything he has reported on in terms of Disneyland, and always qualifies things as decided but not announced, being considered, blue-sky, what have you, and will update when things change.

Granted, he jumped the gun on the Year of A Million Dreams Campaign being ended early (it was just re-tooled for Disneyland) but hey, there was a change, he just over-reached on its impact...

I think its unfair to say he is never right. Maybe that was once the case, and I know he seems to have a bias against WDW, but the facts don't support the quoted statement.

Not to burst anyones bubble or anything, but 90% of the people who go to WDW or DL WOULD NOT CARE about this. Granted, most of the purists on this board and a few others care, but the majority of theme park going public couldn't care less if they added some characters. I'm not saying it is right because I don't think they should do it, but in the grand scheme of things, most people don't care.
