JONESBORO, Ga. - A 9-year-old Jonesboro boy is being hailed a hero after saving his brother's life.
Malik Gipson's family was visiting his grandmother's Jonesboro home in December when his 2-year-old brother Michael started choking on a piece of candy.
“All the sudden I looked and he was foaming at the mouth,” said Elaine Pines, the boys’ grandmother.
Malik grabbed his brother around the waist, and immediately began performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Clayton County firefighters honored Malik on Tuesday. Chief Jeff Hood presented him with a certificate and a firefighter’s helmet.
“He has a gift that he utilized that day. It certainly paid off for him and his family,” said Hood.
The Brown Elementary school student said he learned the Heimlich maneuver from watching the Disney XD show "Pair of Kings,” a popular children's program.
Also trying to draw a link to what episode it was and I'm drawing a blank.
