I'm considering this since we won't be going into the parks. Is this worth the money? If so, is this typically something I can book the day of?

I haven't done this, mainly because despite trying to book 4 months out, I couldn't!

Having stayed at Kidani and used the night vision goggles I think it would be well worth it. Especially if you aren't visiting AK. But you may need to book it at 180 days if you want to do it. OTOH, you may be lucky. (DS and I were able to book Keys to the Kingdom a couple of days later at the resort one time, it CAN happen but you need a bit of luck).
