Guests at Pools

LOL. Seriously though, it would be a lot easier, and more likely to be approved, during the stay at Caribbean Beach since they don't check wristbands at the quiet pools and they are less busy than the main feature pool.

If the front desk says no OP can always just do something else, but I don't think WDW is going to make someone's stay less magical by telling them their mom can't join them at the pool. That would be pretty stupid.

It never hurts to ask staff if it would be okay. The worst that could happen is they say no. But if the OP wants to ask the staff if it's okay, and they give permission, then it's between them.

I have had someone visit me on my last 2 trips, both times she was given a key card with her name on it- this allowed room and pool access etc..

Like @wdwfan22 said, they have been cracking down on this.
Tikiman's FB page just recently had photos of CMs scanning Magic bands at pools..after they were through the gate. Someone else said that a few other resorts have been doing the same.
It might be embarrassing to get escorted out.

Point being- just go to the desk and get a key card.. problem solved :)

Actually, they can and they will. We had three rooms at the WL two years ago and my brother in law and his wife drove up from Tampa. We were told they could not join us at the pool because they were not staying at the hotel.

They may not say no every time, but they do say no at least some of the time.

OP, the answer to your question was in the photo of the signage at the pool. But, I don't think there is anything wrong with asking once you are at the resort. Maybe it will be slow and they will grant an exception. From your questions you are being a considerate guest. I just wouldn't make plans to do so before you get there.

There's nothing wrong with that, if they say no, they say no. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Don't care because I never got my panties in a bunch if a friend used a swimming pool with a guest of the resort. I would never know who was paying and who wasn't. I'm not the pool police much less the tennis court police or the arcade police. I'm too focused on having my own fun instead of worrying who was paying and who wasn't.
It seems pretty harmless, but if everyone did it, there would be less chairs, umbrella's or space in the spa for those who paid a lot of money to stay at a Disney resort and enjoy these items. Not that that was intended here, but it's similar to people who place towels on pool chairs to use much later; or groups that cut in line to meet up with others (in their group) and they're not considerate of those who stood in line a long time only to get pushed back a little further so the cutters aren't inconvenienced by being split-up.

The "black and white" rules weren't put in because they don't serve a purpose; they were developed because a particular problem continued to grow and enough complaints were made that management took action. I (like most everyone) have taken "liberties" from time to time, but I try to consider if my actions could negatively impact others before I continue. I've probably unknowingly inconvenienced people that I didn't intend to, but if it's brought to my attention, or if I learn afterwards that I bent (or broke) a rule, then I just adjust my actions going forward...

It certainly wasn't TwisterMomma's intent to negatively effect other guests with this request and it took a lot of courage to ask the question given how sensitive the topic is. I hope she's able to find other activities her family & friends can enjoy during their vacation that's just as fun and relaxing... :)

"This pool area is for the exclusive use of Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort Guests."

Define "use", because next time I'm staying at WL and invite a couple of my local friends to come see me, I may "use" the pool to entertain my guests.

Would you also like to bring the homeless man you saw outside Walmart to the pool with you? How about that refugee family your sanctimonious Facebook friend keeps going on about?

They just installed umbrellas outside the pool entrances at Copper Creek Pool, so they will be checking for MagicBands. Earl from the Walmart parking lot will need to book a room.

While we're at it, would you also like to bring the flying spaghetti monster? How about Big Bird? Would you be happy with it if someone brought their neighbor's dog? THEIR NEIGHBOR'S DOG!

Well that escalated quickly. I guess I'll just have to ask and see. I can definitely see the friend thing being a "no" and we can definitely figure out something else to do. I hope they consider making an exception for my parents as they are guests at the neighboring resort and it will make swimming with 3 young children quite a bit easier. That, and we wanted to spend time with them on off days. I have no intention of trying to sneak anyone in.

"Alternatively, if you really want to swim in the Wilderness Lodge pool, book a resort stay at the Wilderness Lodge and stop being a cheapskate."

To this point, my parents have an RV. They camp when they go on trips. We do not have an RV. Or a tent. Or the mad desire to camp in a tent with three children 5 and under at Disney! Sure, staying at the same resort is an option, but not one that was an easy choice in this case.

It didn't need to escalate but here we are. They may make an exception for your parents, but if they're also staying nearby on vacation and not local family that you're seeing for the first time in a while that starts to become the sort of abuse that people here are implying and Disney has actively banned.

Exactly. Which is why in my example, I said that I asked the resort staff if it would be okay for our guest to use the pool. I didn't make assumptions it would be okay, I didn't try to sneak them in, there was no sense of entitlement. I just simply asked the staff. If they said no, fine no big deal, no hurt feelings. But they did tell us it would be okay to use the quiet pool and not the feature pool. Which is completely understood because the feature pool has staff that does activities, lifeguards, etc. And there's probably a huge liability issue if a non-guest gets injured. However, asking hurts no one and you never know until you ask. Like I said, there's a better chance of it being approved at the moderate with more than one pool.

Ok my two pennies were rubbing together. I would have to say that first off
1: What level of public or private are you saying. Are we saying ok for Uncle Phil to drive 3 hours and say hi and swim with you guys, because if all other forms of staying at a hotel this would be acceptable. More often then nought the "Local" types have decided to have resort days too with out staying in the resort.
2: I was staying at All Stars, would it be acceptable for my cheap butt to go hit the Volcano Pool at the Poly. Other spectrum, someone staying at the GF decided he wanted swim and have dolewhips, so he went to the Poly or maybe swimming with Uncle Phil at the WL, but still staying at the GF.
Something tells me the letter of the Disney law is that Exclusive is for the specific resort guest only. By what I can gleam from other posts, is that if you are staying on any Disney property and keeping low key you probably won't be harassed, and at most asked to return to swim at your designated resort pool. I am willing to bet that the local types will sit there with magic bands on all decked out in bandits and even customized bands and like other posters have said during the Holidays and long weekends CM's have to go around and scan guests. It would be probably the most busiest these times.
With the magic band technology, They have to be able to track that the resort has say 25,000 registered guests that day. the tracking software says that only 200 guests are not check in at a park. The Manager walks the pool areas and can see well over 200 people are in the pool area, then it would be prudent to start scanning.

I don't think it matters about where someone is staying. Poly's Volcano pool is my son's favorite.. we stayed at GF last time, so obviously couldn't use the Volcano pool... it wasn't about being cheap. I totally understand why your parents are choosing the campground. I would too if I had an RV!!

My prior advice to you is the best route to go.
If they are listed as your guests- and have Key cards- then they are actual guests, and can't be kicked out if CMs do a Magic Band sweep.

Depending on the amount of people in your room it may cost whatever the additional adult rate is...but I think that's like $10? Not totally sure there.. but would be worth it to spend the day together.

Be careful. Before you know it, they'll only allow resort guests to "use" the beaches to watch the fireworks ( especially at the POLY). But, that would be hard to do, especially for folks who have reservations at 'Ohana or any other Magic Kingdom resort restaurant.;)

Magic band readers on the rear exits and gate all the paths.

Come along lets sing the song
And join the jamboree!

They actually do that during certain holidays though. I know on 4th of July for sure. Resort guests have an extra wristband.

People can still have dinner there, just have to leave after...or at least not go on the beach.
