Trip Report englanddg's Real Life or is this just Fantasy?

This is the start of the Pre-Trip Portion.

Some music to enjoy as you read...

It's been two years. But, we are finally going back. I suppose I should introduce myself.

I'm @englanddg and the kiddo is Kaylee or KK. I'm old, she's young (10), and we like Selfies.

IMG_0326 (2).JPG

I've been going to Disneyworld since 1983, where my parents took me and we stayed in Contemporary for the opening of EPCOT. This fostered an enjoyment of all things Disney (but especially the parks) that has lasted to this day. In the late 80's to mid-90's I had a Floridian Annual Pass and went 3 - 4 days a week most summers. I've also been to Disneyland California, which I adored, and on a Disney Cruise.

The kiddo has been to WDW 4 times, Universal once, and on one Disney Cruise (Fantasy - Western Caribbean).

Last year was a rather rough year, and I had to cancel my plans for our normal trip, as well as a family trip with my Grandfather. But, things are now back on track, and I'm back to doing Trip Reports!

This thread will be where I post pre-trip / packing / plans (and plan changes) / updates for the trip. At the end of this thread I will again attempt to do a daily trip report as seen with my Surf and Turf Adventure, which may be found here.

Note, it is missing the last day. I will finish that and the video for that trip (which is halfway done) before the coming trip, and will post in that thread.

MDE set up, Magic Bands customized and ordered!

Yeap, I bleed orange!

Current plans (booked) are as follows.
Friday - August 7 - Fly to DC (Reagan) and meet the kiddo. Take the Metro to a hotel (not yet booked) in Crystal City / Pentagon City.

Saturday - August 8 - Tour the Smithsonian and the National Mall with the kiddo. The last time we did this we did the Capital Tour. I think this time we'll try and do the White House or the Washington Monument (or both). Air and Space is a must, as both the kiddo and I have a thing for planes and space (ok...I may have influenced her tastes a bit with that...addicting her to Star Trek young...nah...that couldn't have anything to do with it...)

Sunday - August 9 - Fly to Orlando (MCO) mid-morning. Take a taxi to Leow's Portofino Bay Resort at Universal Studios. Hang out around the hotel pool (the kiddo now has 2 years of swimming lessons under her belt, the last trip she was just learning how to swim properly, and it's something we continued through Red Cross Swimming classes after the trip).

Then we'll walk Citywalk, grab dinner somewhere. Probably this place, because it intrigues me:

But, the kiddo and I will just play that by ear.

Then go see Blue Man Group that night. This is a redo of a failed Blue Man Group experience we had last trip to Universal.

The whole experience is noted in my 2012 trip report, but the long and short of it is that it was rainy, the kiddo and I were soaked, and the twinkie stuff (mushed banana) getting splattered on her (we were front row, center seats, so we got the brunt of it) was just too much. The kiddo's mood was shattered, and she frumped the rest of the concert. So...now she's a bit older (and I'm smart enough to bring better ponchos to the show!), so we are gonna try it again.

I will contact Blue Man's Box Office directly to get the front row seats again. Maybe she'll get another Shadow Drum Painting?

Monday - August 10 - IoA

Breakfast at the Three Broomsticks before opening. Then enjoy the park. No Dining Plan this time (though they did change it since my 2012 trip...in 2012, it certainly was NOT worth it). I want to try and have an early dinner at Mythos. But, we'll play it by ear. I do want to have a dagwood sometime on this trip as well. :hungry:

DSC_0242.jpg

Head over to Universal at some point through the Hogwarts Express (I've heard we need to experience it going both ways, that the "show" is different, so...) Hang out there and catch the Cinematic Spectacular Nighttime Show.

Tuesday - August 11 - Whatever Universal

Basically, just go spend time in the parks. No special plans. She is finally tall enough for all the coasters, so I guess I'll have to brave Rip Rocket! Hope it doesn't get stuck! ;)

Wednesday - August 12 - Morning at Universal, head over to our next stop mid afternoon.

I have 3 day tickets at Uni, so since we likely won't be back for another few years, we'll spend most of the day meandering through the parks.

However, we have places to go and meals to eat (a late dinner at Jikos).

So, picking up a taxi from Portofino, we'll head over to Animal Kingdom Lodge. I got a stellar deal on a Club Level room with a view of the Arusha Savanna. We'll have a late dinner at Jiko, and then nibble on club level goodies as we attempt to spot animals on the Savanna from our balcony with my new toy (ordered yesterday).

That's a Bushnell Equinox Z Day/Night Monocular. It is capable of Image Capture and even records video. Should be fun!

Thursday - August 13 - Magic Kingdom

Breakfast at Cindy's at 8:05, and it's morning EM hours that day, so we'll head off to the rides after that. Can't wait to try out the Mine Train!

Lunch at Be Our Guest. I do hope they serve the Gray Stuff at Lunch service. I've heard it's delicious (I asked the dishes).

Dinner at Tony's Town Square. This is actually the first time that we've eaten there. I generally avoid Italian at Disney aside from EPCOT after a pretty poor experience at Mama Melrose a few years back, but I think it's worth a shot. I looked up pictures of it and I think it's worth a try!

Friday - August 14 - EPCOT

Breakfast at Cape May. Another new one for us. Then we'll hike through the International Gateway (rear entrance) of EPCOT.

Lunch at Teppan Eto

Dinner at Le Cellier

Saturday - August 15 - Leaving...or are we?

Ok, I played this trick on the kiddo last trip (and she wasn't too happy until she realized what was going on). After a breakfast at Boma, we're gonna head off to catch our transport. To where, you may ask?

Here... (and so this is the Real Life and it is Fantasy?)

disney-fantasy-cruise-ship-1.jpg

Got a veranda midship room, which is great. Last time I stayed in room 9172, which is aft with an oversized veranda. It was very nice, but one of the complaints I had was the vibration and noise from the engine during at sea days. And, since this cruise has a LOT of at sea days, I'm glad to be midship in room 6558. And, now that I know the ship better (I was SO LOST last time), I really like that placement.

Sunday - August 16 - At Sea

Well, it's a day at sea. Which means...we do...whatever we want! The last cruise, once I got used to the vibe of a cruise, I found the at sea days were the most enjoyable. This Eastern Caribbean itinerary offers 4 days (including departure day) at sea, and I'm excited for that!

Monday - August 17 - At Sea

Ditto above. Catch a show, maybe a movie, play the interactive games, and enjoy the free food. :hungry:

The kiddo adored the kid's club last time, so I think I'll try and do Remy or Palo one of these days.

Tuesday - August 18 - St. Maarten

No idea, no plans. As I posted in the Disney Cruise forum, there are no Port Excursions listed for this port, so I guess we'll just make it up as we go along?

Wednesday - August 19 - St. Thomas, St. John

This is where I'm actually a bit torn. My daughter has family who live on St. Thomas who haven't seen her since she was 2, so we may meet them for Lunch or something. I haven't decided on an excursion (if we do one) either.

Thursday - August 20 - At Sea

Yeap, more chillaxing!

Friday - August 21 - Castaway Cay

Last trip, we just stayed on board. This time, I'm hoping to get out and we'll at least rent some bikes and snag some beach time!

Saturday - August 22 - Back on land...

<sigh>...tanned and fed, we'll head back on land, but the adventure isn't over yet! We'll hop the Magical Express back to our next and final leg of our journey...

Art of Animation!

We stayed at Pop the year this opened, and the kiddo really wanted to swim in the Nemo pool, but we couldn't (no pool hopping, tsk tsk...but at AoA with their keycard access gates, they take it REALLY seriously!)

At some point we'll head over to Hollywood Studios. We have a late lunch at Sci Fi Dine In (the Kiddos favorite, and frankly mine too...even over <gasp> Brown Derby!)

And a late dinner at 50's Prime Time, before heading over to see Fantasmic.

Sunday - August 23 - Go see the animals...

Ok, I dunno why this seems to happen every trip, but Sundays just "work" for Animal Kingdom.

Breakfast at Tusker House

Lunch at Yak and Yeti

Dinner at ?, then back to the hotel to chill out and relax around the pool!

Monday - August 24 - Disney Springs / Water Park

Here we'll hit up Typhoon Lagoon, and do some last minute shopping! I think we'll skip La Nouba this go around.

Breakfast somewhere...?

Lunch at T-Rex (ugh, I don't like the Landry's restaurants, but this is the kiddo's favorite, so this is for her)

Dinner at Raglan Road (yeah, that's for me...my second favorite (Bongo's is my favorite) at DTD).

Tuesday - August 24 - The end...see ya real soon!

Breakfast at Ohana (Tonga Toast!)

Lunch at Cindy's Royal Table

3pm Parade (Festival of Fantasy) and then a late flight back to DC where I'll crash overnight before heading back to ATL the next day.

So, there you have it! More to come later, but feel free to join in and chime in with any ideas / suggestions you may have!

So excited to be going back!

One Little Spark...
Original Poster
They have a spray and a thick paste. It keeps a crap load of glitter on my props without coming off.
I stopped by Staples and they didn't have it <sad>. Then Target, and they didn't have it either.

Guess I'll need to go to Micheals or something (I don't even know if Micheals is still in business!?! The one near me closed down years ago)

I'm gonna try a project glue stick I picked up (3M product) and see if that works. If not, I have some super glue, so that will be test two...

And, if that doesn't work, then I'll certainly check out!

Michaels still exists. You could also try Hobby Lobby. They carry stuff like that as well.

You could contact cement. Coat the surface of the band and the back of the sticker. Let both suffices dry. Place sticker carefully as once the cement surfaces touxh, very difficult to remove.

Ah, I didn't even think about that! I think that could work perfectly!

This glue stick thing (I'll post a pic later of it) from 3M appears like it would function in a similar manner to rubber / contact cement, but if it fails, I'll try that as well!

Mod Podge has a lot of varieties. Michael's and most of the commercial craft stores may carry about 5 or 6 types. plaidonline.com has a pdf of the different types of finishes and formulas. About 10 of the types work on plastic.

MM+ Thoughts - Mickey Mail
Welcome Packets - Part 1

General Note - The pictures in this post have been edited to remove certain personal information. I'm sure you, the reader, will understand my reasoning. So, for example, where you see englanddg in the documents, that's where my name would have appeared.

Ok, so this is the first real "analysis" I've done with this report. So far it's just been basic info and brain dumping of a more conversational nature.

But, I was extremely impressed with the new Mickey Mail. This probably isn't a surprise to anyone that's taken a trip in the last year, but if it's been longer than that, the Mickey Mail has dramatically improved since even Spring of last year (I don't recall getting this for the aborted trip, I don't think I did).

So, I'm going to do a brief breakdown of what the packets are, including lots of pictures. But, there are some tidbits which I want to call attention to. Call them "Disney Details"...because...that's EXACTLY what they are.

So, lets start with the envelopes.

I got two packets. One for each leg of my Disney stay. This is the first packet (for the AKL portion of the stay before the cruise).
Envelope Book 1.jpg

Pretty standard fare, matched the Magic Band packaging and Incredibles theme as you would suspect.

However, what is interesting is what the envelope for the SECOND part of my stay (at AoA) looks like.

Envelope Book 2.jpg

That's right. They've programmed into the system that if it's a return visit (at least according to some flag in the system) you get a different envelope.

Now, I work in IT, and I worked in reprographics, in fact...variable data printed documents were my first job where I custom developed 11x17 signature center stitched employee benefits statements that were completely unique to the individual. So, for example, if you had health plan A, then it showed only your plan benefits, not a larger table. If you had retirment plan B, it showed that (with estimates based on a variety of factors of what you could expect your retirement to look like if you maintained the same plan to early and normal retirement ages).

Rather than babble on about it, you can see one here. (note, pretty much every page was different for every employee, and we ran these off Docutech 160s that printed duplex, added the cover and stitched inline. It was really fresh stuff back then.

https://web.archive.org/web/20041001013742/http://www.selectbenefitconsultants.com/floyd.pdf

Anyhow, I was doing that in 1996, when it was extremely rare. Especially in a graphical format. The reason I mention this is to explain how I look at this document with a professional interest and respect for the process, because I've produced things exactly like this and appreciate the challenges involved in doing it well. I'll touch on those as we proceed through the book.

Also, to note, if you've ever used a PDF or MS Word form template to fill out a form, think of these things like that, but on steroids!

Open the envelopes, and the first packet had a flyer insert instructing me to go to a website.

Flyer.jpg

You can go there yourself. It's pretty generic, but pretty neat! But, if don't want to, I took a screen capture of the experience that you can watch here!

I seem to recall this video existed back on my 2013 trip, but the instructions (maybe even a card like this? I don't recall.) came with the bands, not the welcome packet.

Also, it's interesting that it wasn't included with Book 2...but, Disney knows I'm a return visitor (at least now they do), as I mentioned before.

So, lets move on. The covers. Here, you'll also note a difference (one that I thought was a bit odd, frankly, because it's one of the few "variable" parts that I don't understand why it's like that).

Book 1. We are the englanddg "Party".

Cover Book 1.jpg

Book 2. Note, here it's the englanddg "Family".

Cover Book 2.jpg

It's a really minor thing, but I'm not sure why it's there. What it does mean is that the last part of the line, or maybe the whole line, is completely variable, and probably entered somehow, maybe even manually. I'm not sure why they would choose to do that, as opposed to hard coding "Family" at the end, unless there is some flag (like, if two friends are coming together, then "Party" would be more appropriate)...but, I find it an interesting copywriting choice.

Open up the book, and you are treated to some unique and important information right from the start.

Book 1.
Page 1 Book 1.jpg

Book 2.

Page 1-2 Book 2.jpg

Again, pretty standard stuff that you'd expect (and used to be included on the older Welcome Packets). One thing to note is the Package Type indicates my specific Dining Plan as well (Deluxe for both trips). Note that, because it will come up again later.

Turning the page.

Page 3-4 Book 2.jpg

From what I can tell this page is the same in both books. Just general information about MM+, Magicbands and Fastpass Plus, as long as a "checklist" of things to do. I'm not sure if the checklist (which reflects I customized my bands with a green check) is variable or not, but I don't think so.

So, a suggestion for Disney (cause they have a lot of little things...hidden items, similar to Hidden Mickeys, in the book). I would have the bands section, if it's already been customized through MDE reflect the actual color and number of bands selected. It's a minor thing, but not impossible to do (There are only so many combinations) and while it's a coincidence that the first book actually matches the number and colors I chose, the second one didn't.

Not a big deal, and not something most people would notice or care about, but given what they did throughout the book, I think it could be doable.

Why? Well, I have a perfect example starting with the next page, so lets take a look!

Page 5-6 Book 2.jpg

Peek at page 5, on the left. Take a good close look at the MDE screen. See that name? That's right, in the real book, your name (I assume the primary account on the reservation is where they get that) is displayed there. I replaced it with englanddg.

I didn't notice it on the first readthrough, either that or this is really random that the name they chose for a stock graphic is MY name...so, I'm fairly certain this is added on the fly. And, I think it's the most awesome customization in the entire book. So, you can see why I think the MBs on page 4 would also be a neat little touch.

Again, most probably wouldn't notice it, but when you do, as I said, that's part of the "Disney Difference"...the details.

But, I also want to take a look at Page 6 (on the right). It is also customized. The picture above is from Book 2 (My AoA) stay. scroll back up and take a look at the pool that is listed.

Go ahead, I'll wait.

-----------

Did you look? Did you note that it is the Big Blue Pool, which is the main pool at AoA? Also, did you notice the backdrop is a map of AoA?

Well, take a look at Page 6 from Book 1 (my AKL stay).

Page 6 Book 1.jpg

Yep, it lists and shows a picture of the Uzima pool (the main pool at Animal Kingdom Lodge), and the background is the map of AKL. How cool is that!

So, break time, and then I'll be back with Part 2!

Welcome Packets - Part 2

Lets move on to page 7!

Not much to say here. It's a pretty straight forward rundown of the MagicBands and how they work.

That said, considering they put my NAME on the MDE website on the previous page, I think if they had pictures of your magicband selections and numbers, on page 7, along with the band names you chose below them, it would be another neat little addition. Maybe they'll do it someday? A guy can dream, right?

Pages 9 and 10, likewise are generic. They run you through the FP+ service and how to use the MDE app during your trip. Informative, but boilerplate.

But, from there we get really specific again, and I love it!

Book 1

Book 2

You'll note, each is customized to my resort! Pictures and all. This is really neat, and a start of a further trend I'll note in the upcoming pages.

Also, on this page they suggest you visit http://www.disneyworld.com/resorts/super .

I did, hoping for another cute video like the earlier one, but was disappointed. The URL actually takes you to the standard resort planning stage of Disney's site.

So, another suggestion for Disney. I would love it if they made a Goofy's planning video specific to each resort, and you could "explore" the hotel and amenities along with him! It wouldn't be terribly hard to do, and since they are already customizing the hotel section to your hotel, they could customize the link. So, it could be "www.disneyworld.com/resorts/AoA" for Art of Animation. Something like that.

Here's an example for Disneyland.

I think they could use it to hype up the resort, as well as suggestively sell certain amenities the resort offers. Specifically for deluxe resorts where they can push additional services (like spa treatments), as well as pushing resort shopping and dining in a very visual and entertaining way that, budget wise, isn't terribly difficult to do (I mean, they sortof have goofy costumes on hand...<grin>)

It also would add a very unique "interactive" element to the brochure, as you could have these videos progress throughout each page to enhance the experience. Read the page, then watch the video, rinse and repeat!

Anyhow, I like the idea, so if you see Disney doing something like this in the future...well...I'm claiming my share of the credit! <wink>

But, I digress. Off to Page 13 and 14!

Book 1

Book 2

Two things to note. The first is obvious (on page 14, on the right). The restaurants listed are specific to the resort as well as the picture of the restaurants and the food offerings (the family in the middle picture on the left is generic).

The second is something that I suspect only happens for AoA, due to the name of the food court of AoA and how it works well with the copywriting. You'll note, on page 13 of Book 1, the first line reads:

"There are many fabulous flavors to be found throughout your Resort hotel. And, whether you hunger for something exotic or something simple, you'll find it all right here."

But, page 13 of Book 2 reads:

"Your Disney Resort hotel features the fun and flavorful Landscape of Flavors. With plenty to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this quick and convenient dining location has something for everyone!"

Neat!

Pages 15 and 16 are generic again, and talk about hotel benefits such as resort activities (movies under the stars, pool parties, etc.). It also talks about how merchandise can be shipped to your resort for you from the parks.

Now, I do have two nitpicks.

On page 15, they show a Disney Magical Express bus, but they don't specifically mention it at all (not once in the entire document that I saw, though I could have missed it, I haven't had my morning coffee yet).

Now, that could be because these packets didn't have my yellow luggage tags (not sure when that packet will come), and so they reserved any mention beyond the vague "complimentary transportation" line for that packet, but I'm not sure.

But, I think they could spend a bit more time bulleting the on-resort transportation options. The busses, monorails and boats. And, since they obviously can customize, and know where you are staying, they could even make that "intelligent" so it shows, for example, if you are at Wilderness Lodge, you can get to MK through boat or bus, or if you are Grand Floridian, you can get to MK through boat, bus or Monorail.

I dunno, a minor nitpick, but this next one is not. Because this next one is BAD SHOW!

So, while I've been very complimentary so far, this is unacceptable in my view. So, the page directs you to go to http://www.disneyworld.com/benefits/super .

What happens when you do?

STITCH ATE THE PAGE?

Are you serious Disney? Ok, I can overlook that the hotels link merely goes to the hotel selection screen, but this doesn't go anywhere. This is unacceptable.

That said, they'll probably fix this in the future, and, again, I think a Goofy Planning video with him utilizing Disney Transit and talking about room merch delivery would be really neat. It can be generic, because the resort specific activities can be saved for the hotel specific videos I suggested earlier.

The next few pages are breakdowns of the parks and activities available on the resorts, and are generic to both books, so I probably won't have much commentary on them. So, lets move on?

It directs you to go to http://www.disneyworld.com/fastpassplus/super , which, unlike the previous failure...actually works? (though, I think a Goofy Vacation Video about using FP+ would be neat, instead of a brochure style webpage, but at least it works!)

Here's what you see when you go there.

However, the first few times I tried to watch it, the video just sat there and timed out...it wouldn't load.

After a few minutes (and a few refreshes) it finally worked, so...

It's pretty generic, and I think a Goofy video (or some other Fab 5, like Donald or Pluto?) would be more amusing.

Page 19 and 20 talk about Magic Kingdom.

You are directed to go to http://www.disneyworld.com/mkmap/super

This takes you to the interactive MDE map of magic kingdom. I won't mention these maps again, but the links are referenced on each of the 4 major theme parks for them.

But, I will note that when I tried to go there, it...didn't work.

Now, I know these maps work, because I've used them. But, when people talk about MDE and Disney's Site being slow, THIS is the sort of systems / performance inconsistency they are talking about. So...<ahem>...Disney...should do better.

And, just so you know it's not MY internet...here's a speedtest

Also, note, it still hasn't loaded while I'm running this AND streaming Once Upon a Time on hulu on the other screen...but the Magic Kingdom map STILL hasn't loaded...it's been...about 10 minutes now. I'm going to close that tab, but, you get the idea.

Next is my personal favorite park. EPCOT (it will always be all caps to me and end in Center, darn it!)

Then Hollywood Studios.

And Animal Kingdom.

Downtown Disney

Disney Water Parks (including a mention about the Magic Band being waterproof!)

Now, on page 31, the customization starts again. This discusses your tickets. On the first leg (Book 1, AKL)of my stay I didn't bother getting Park Hoppers, but for the second stay (Book 2, AoA) I did get Park Hoppers and Water Parks and More. Note the text has been changed to describe the PH and WP&M benefits!

Book 1

Book 2

The page instructs you to go to http://www.disneyworld.com/magicbands/super . Like the FP+ page, it takes you to a generic brochure style run down of Magicbands. (ahem...goofy video talking about tickets and bands here? Yeah, I like the idea of the Goofy vids, I love his Cruise Line planning vid!)

There's also a video here:

The next section is the same in both of my books, but outlines Dining plans in a truly fantastic way. On my first trip with a Dining Plan (2010) I had a lot of questions, and I know from hanging out on these forums that Dining Plans tend to cause a LOT of confusion for first time visitors.

So, I strongly suspect this section breaks it down for the type of Dining Plan you got. What I do NOT know is what it looks like if you didn't get a Dining Plan, so I'd be curious to know what filler they put in this space instead, or if the book is actually 2 pages shorter. Perhaps someone can chime in?

It also instructs you to go to http://www.disneyworld.com/diningplan/super . No screen shot, but the link does work...though, as I noted before, I think a Goofy Vacation (or a fab five for meal shots) could explain Dining Plans and ADRs a bit better here instead of just a brochure style informational page.

The other thing that is NOT noted anywhere in the book (that I recall) is ADRs and how to make them. So, that's some content that, I dunno, is pretty important? Especially for a new or infrequent guest?

But...I'm just being silly, right? RIGHT? <wink>

Also, and this is just a design note, I find it hilarious that they chose the slender Violet Parr as the picture on page 34 (on the right). Why? Well, if you've ever had the Dining Plan before...you'll understand. It's a LOT of food. I doubt I'll look that good in spandex after my trip! (not that I'd look that good in spandex on a normal day either...so, yeah, lets drop the subject shall we?)

The next section details Memory Maker. Now, I haven't purchased it yet, though I do plan to add it before the trip starts so I can get the discounted rate (yeah, it's cheaper in advance, so even if you THINK you may want it, get it before the trip). So, I don't know if this page changes if you have pre purchased it, but I suspect it doesn't.

It also instructs you to go to http://www.mydisneyexperience.com/memorymaker/super .

And, yes, you'll find another video. Here it is:

So, one last note, it seems they did litter the booklet with unique videos, but I think they should have taken advantage of their custom landing sites (the URLs they give you redirect) and made it a bit more immersive and fun...and...included Goofy! :p

The current links just send you to the general landing pages for these services.

And now we're on the home stretch, and I REALLY like what they did here.

Book 1

Book 2

This is an EXCELLENT addition to the packet, as these dates are extremely important!

Though, I do have one RATHER LARGE complaint. They don't list the ADR dates there! Now, that could be because I'm within my 180 day window, so they felt I've already "passed the deadline", and if that's the case I retract this criticism.

But, considering ADRs are a rather important part of the process, especially for non-frequent trip goers who may have bucket list experiences they want to check off, I really wish they'd listed it and gone into some more detail on how the system works.

Not that I need it (I don't), but first time or infrequent Guests would probably find it invaluable.

And that, my friends, brings me to the end. Thanks for reading!

<edit / update - I was informed by someone that, yes, they do list the ADR date in the packet if you are outside of 180 days. Good show Disney!>

Now that looks awesome, shame I wont get anything like that in the mail coming from the UK :( unless you get a basic version of this if you book directly through Disney (which i did not this time)

Very nice review. We stayed non-DVC in August, so we got this stuff too. I was equally impressed, for mostly the same reasons you were.

As for DME, my wife would know better, but I remember there being talk about DME mail being consolidated into the Mickey Mail, and the yellow luggage tags being shipped by themselves, without the booklet.

As for the links not working, when I go to http://www.disneyworld.com/benefits/super it sends me to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/benefits/ which comes up just fine. Granted, I'm not logged into MDX on this computer right now, so perhaps it breaks when it tries to show a logged in user that page.

And as for the customized Magic Bands not showing in the book, my hunch is that since they send the docs out much earlier than the bands, and because you can technically change your band customizations up until the day they ship (~30d), they may not want to risk the confusion of showing bands that you end up not getting. I agree it would be a neat touch, but to guarantee everything matches, they'd need to cut off customization privileges the day they mail the packet.

Great points!

I hadn't thought about the fact that I still could "technically" change the bands (I have a few more days), and I'm sure that is likely the case. It seems so obvious that it probably got bounced around (no good idea is a new idea) and shot down for that reason (or similar).

I doubt it was a cost concern (I reviewed the material to see if they were doing offset "shells" and then running through a high speed color laser (production models for those are INSANE nowadays, amazing units!), and it didn't look like they were. It look like it all went through the lasers.

You save some money doing that materials / production method (using shells), but I know high volume print shops that actually started charging more for it (even though the materials cost was less) because they had to pay more staff labor to assemble and bind the final products, as the production grade machines now can do all sorts of paper and binding functions inline (the stuff the Docutech series could do in the mid to late 90s was impressive, but I did a tour of a print shop about 2 years ago, and was floored with what they can do now!)

(see, like I said, I look at it from a different perspective than some would...I love this stuff!)

As far as the link, I just tested, and it worked for me now (no Stitch). I wasn't logged into MDE on my home PC either, but I did note that their site was doing wonky things around that same time, so maybe I hit them at a midnight server maintenance cycle?

Still, you'd think they wouldn't have those issues...I'd suspect the inter-networking on the back end there (disparate systems, many probably controlled by different administrative and security teams) is a rats nest.

This seems to be working though as Tom said, it directs to the second page even when I am logged into MDE, maybe the page was just down for whatever reason while you were trying to visit it :/

On a different note I just got the different packages too and noticed the difference as our first rooms are for 1 adult each (before our wedding) says party and the second rooms (for our honeymoon) say for family so they must have some algorithm setup to personalize the pamphlets though my second one did not say welcome back; I am guessing this is because I checkout the same day I check in to the other one.

Anyway I am really liking following your magic bands, if you get to trying them on tattoo paper I will be interested to see how that works, as well as see if you can figure out sticker or photo paper :)

Good luck!! And I hope you're having a blast!!

Some music to enjoy as you read...

It's been two years. But, we are finally going back. I suppose I should introduce myself.

I'm @englanddg and the kiddo is Kaylee or KK. I'm old, she's young (10), and we like Selfies.

View attachment 91311

The whole experience is noted in my 2012 trip report, but the long and short of it is that it was rainy, the kiddo and I were soaked, and the twinkie stuff (oatmeal) getting splattered on her (we were front row, center seats, so we got the brunt of it) was just too much.

Our trips are going to overlap a few days. I will be there from 8/22 -9/1.
Sadly, it looks like we will be at different parks on those days.

8/22 - Taking a Newbie, so we HAVE to start at MK, before heading over to Epcot for dinner @ the Garden Grill.

8/23 - Starting out at DHS. Then evening at Epcot, where Son #2 and the GF will be dining at Chefs de France.

8/24 - Looky look - we have breakfast ADR's at Kona @ 9:35. Would be awesome if we could meet up for a hello, and a stroll around my favourite resort. PM me if we can make this work.

Might could make that work.

Bring me something from Tim Hortons?
