Pre-Trip Dreams Do Come True... May 2017 Pre-Trip

***Our plans have changed around a few times since this first post! Changes are in red.***

Well hello there friends! While I've been reading and loving all your trip reports, I'm finally back to tell you about a new trip of my own .

WHO:
My name is Ashton. Just your fellow Disney addict with a slight coffee obsession (particularly the Dunkin' Donuts variety).

Here I am two Halloweens ago, trying to bring some Disney spirit to my office:

Mary Poppins.JPG

My traveling buddy is my husband Jonathan, J for short. Here we are riding the TTA on our trip from this past July:

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have a full trip report from our August 2015 trip and a pre-trip from our short, two day trip in July 2016 if you'd like to check those out. Unfortunately my phone bit the dust shortly after our July trip, before I had a chance to upload any of our pictures to my computer, so I wasn't able to complete a trip report for that one :(.

WHY:
2017 was supposed to be the year of no Disney. Actually, it was supposed to be the year of no big trips at all as we have some financial goals we're working really hard towards. Of course, not going to Disney bummed me out but I was trying really hard to look at the big picture.

Then, halfway through January, I hear about a charity raffle where one of the prizes is two sets of 5 Day Park Hopper passes. Being that it was for a good cause I decided to enter, hoping but never really thinking I would win. Well there must have been some pixie dust floating my way because wouldn't you know it - I WON THE TICKETS!!! :jawdrop::D

I literally called J freaking out. I'm pretty sure I was in shock - I kept saying "Did I really win?" over and over again.

It is not my intention to brag - I am just incredibly thankful and grateful!

With such a big part of the cost taken care of, we just couldn't pass up taking a trip. I'M GOING BACK TO DISNEY!!! :inlove:

WHEN:
May 13th, 2017 - May 20th, 2017

Our last two trips have been in July and August and while we definitely made them work and had a great time, I really didn't want to go in the dead of summer again. The fall/winter is also tricky for us so May seemed like as good a time as any.

Plus, I'm really excited we'll be there for the Flower and Garden festival since the pictures I've seen of EPCOT are beautiful! I'm also hoping it won't be quite as painfully hot and maybe not quite as rainy but it's Florida so who knows.

Also, we'll be gone during Mother's Day weekend which bums me out a little bit but both our Mom's are so excited for us to go and told us it's totally fine. We are going to make sure to celebrate with them both before we leave.

WHERE:
May 13th-17th : Walt Disney World Swan
May 17th-20th: Carribean Beach (Originally Wilderness Lodge)

I CANNOT BELIEVE WE'RE STAYING THIS CLOSE TO EPCOT/HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS AND MAGIC KINGDOM IN MY FIRST DELUXE ALL IN ONE TRIP!!!!
**Lol there's always next time right?**

Can you tell I'm a little excited? :hilarious:

I seriously cannot put into words how magical this trip has become. Shortly after I won the tickets, we were all set and ready to book All Start Music as it was the only Value available for our dates at the time and again, we were trying to make sure it was reasonably priced. Then, J's dad asked if there were any Starwood hotels on property because he had a bunch of points built up that he wasn't planning on using and offered them to us if we wanted them.

Well of course being crazy Disney lover I am and planning random trips in my head all the time, I knew the Swan and Dolphin are in the Starwood group. A few hours later, J's dad let us know the Swan had availability for our requested dates and he had enough points for 4 nights if we wanted to use them.

I was over the moon. I asked several times if he was sure he wanted us to use them as I didn't want to take them if he thought there was even a small chance he might use them, but he assured me he really did want us to have them - we just needed to pay the resort & parking fee and we'd be squared away.

At first, we were just going to pay out of pocket at the Swan for the remaining two nights but I decided to check the other resort prices just in case. I knew we didn't want to go from the Swan to ASM and since we had even more room in the budget, we decided to go with a moderate.

THEN, I saw the Wilderness Lodge was priced only a little bit higher than POR (our original choice) so how could we say no to that?!?

Just like that it was booked! Now here I am pinching myself that we'll be able to spend part of our trip so close to the Boardwalk and EPCOT (J's favorite park) and part of our trip close to MK (my favorite park) and at one of my dream resorts!
I know the Wilderness Lodge is still going through construction but I honestly don't care - I'm excited anyway!!!

If you made it this far I appreciate you reading all my rambling ;).

So here were are folks, I went from not having any Disney plans for the foreseeable future to now being in double digits in our countdown. Dreams really do come true :inlove:.

NEXT UP:
ADRs and daily plans!

We are eating at Via Napoli for our last dinner there:coldfeet: the following Friday after you.

Via Napoli is my DH's favorite restaurant and as crazy as it sounds, is one of his driving forces for wanting to come to Disney. We're eating there on our first EPCOT day but I thought it would a good "last meal" too. We'll try and leave some pixie dust for you!

Looks great ! We'll be at Coronado 5/13 - 5/17 so we'll slightly miss each other lol

Well shoot! I just read back through your plans and they all look great too! Just goes to show that there really is so much to do at WDW outside of the parks. Can't wait to read all about it, especially the Highway in the Sky Dine Around. That looks so awesome!

I should really just rename this thread to "How Many Times Can We Change Resorts Before We Go" because we have changed our second resort again!

If you've read @Jess G's pre-trip you'll see we're both concerned with how quickly the construction started for all the updates to Coronado Springs.

It seems like a lot of the on-site hotels are going through some kind of refurbishment (not necessarily a bad thing) but since the main part of our rest day will be spent at the resort, I really didn't want to have to worry about it.

So after going back and forth with WL again (they had our dates open back up) and even looking into renting points, we decided on POFQ. I really liked POR when we stayed there last year but they only had royal rooms available and I didn't want to pay that much. I ended up calling and they had a rate for POFQ that I didn't see online that I was good with.

After thinking it over, it's actually going to be nice to have the boat option to take to DS since we had already planned that and since it's on our rest day we don't have to stress about how fast or slow it is.

I also like that it's not as spread out as CSR so it'll be easier to get to the pool, transportation, and food court (that was our one issue with POR last year).

*Hopefully* this is our last change. I already foresee a trip to Guest Services to straighten out the package connected to my magic band. Last year I ended up changing resorts two months beforehand and somehow the only things pulling up on our new MBs we're our tickets from the previous year . I may go over to the GS window at EPCOT on our arrival day just to make sure everything is good before our first park day.

If anyone has any recommendations on how to avoid Magic Band debacles and/or room suggestions/requests for POFQ I'm all ears :).

Yayyy POFQ is very nice. We really liked it there. As far as a room request goes, I was in the farthest building from everything and I was still close to everything lol. So in all honesty you will be good wherever you end up there. The boat to DS will go to perfect use on your rest day.

I'm still deciding what I want to do but I'm 95% positive we are going to rent points.

I love POFQ. My family has outgrown it numbers wise, but when we did stay there we loved that it was quiet and enjoyed walking by the river. The ride over to DS will be a huge plus, not to forget the beignets. We still do a counter service there each trip to pick some up.

Yay! That's good to know, it'll be nice not to stress about room location (DH thinks I'm insane for worrying about things like this).

I hope everything works out and you get your first choice! AKL looks amazing :inlove:. Can't wait to hear how everything goes!

Glad to hear some good things! I think the boat will be a nice change up from our car/buses - especially at night.

YESSS. I showed DH a picture of the beignets and he was sold. Preparing for powdered sugar everywhere! :hungry:

Free tickets! Staying at the Swan!! How incredible!! I'm a little jealous actually! Your plans sound great. I hope you post a report when you get back.

And you make a great Mary Poppins.

We are super excited and thankful! I honestly still can't believe it. It's mine and my DH's five year anniversary this year and we were originally going to do a big land/sea Disney trip but ended up cancelling it because we're saving to buy a house so this was truly a dream come true! Our anniversary is in November but I couldn't wait that long to go (I can barely stand waiting until May) so we're celebrating a little early lol.

I am definitely planning on it this time around. Can't wait to hear about your trip as well!

Thank you! I love Julie Andrews .

Wow you will be checking out and we will be checking in on 5/20 for 5 nights at the All Star's Music then transfer for 6 nights at the Wilderness Lodge!!!

11 nights - that's so awesome! And you'll be there for the official opening of Pandora!! I'm still crossing my fingers for a soft opening. We'll try and leave some pixie dust for you!

Sooo we may or may not have changed our second resort. Again. This is seriously becoming a problem. And not only did we change but we changed to...

Caribbean Beach! :eek:o_O

But didn't we change from Coronado Springs to POFQ because of construction?

Well, yes.

BUT, then I told DH about the gift card incentive at Caribbean Beach and since so many people were switching to different resorts, they had their standard rooms open again which were $40 cheaper/night than our POFQ rate.

As much as I was looking forward to POFQ, saving $120 on the room rate and getting $225 worth of gift cards ($75 per night x 3 nights) was very tempting. Especially since we won't be spending much time there, even on our non-park day.

So we booked it.

If you've been reading this thread, this is the FOURTH time we have changed our second resort.

BUT THIS IS IT!!! I am not looking at disney's site to compare pricing any more for this trip! Probably... ;)

And for anyone wondering if they can still get the gift card, I changed to CBR last Wednesday and got the construction email from Disney today confirming the $75/night.

In other news, one more week until I can make our FP+ picks! Slowly but surely getting closer :).

LOL I just switched today to! And I am also considering moving to CBR for one night just for those savings! Happy for you. The switch looks promising.

Yes!!! So happy for you as well!!!

I almost felt bad for switching just for the gift card (I have issues) but then J reminded me how much we usually spend at Disney and the feeling passed lol.

:) thanksss ... you scored with savings, you made a good decision!

Did you see that CBR is doing a Caribbean style breakfast buffet? That might be something worth trying out.

Yes, that makes me feel a little better about all our ADRs lol.

No!! I'll definitely have to check that out. We aren't big breakfast eaters but it might be a nice way to linger on our check out day.

I just read through your whole report and it was such an emotional ride! So many things are happening for you between winning tickets, getting starwoods points, staying deluxe, changing hotels, changing again, and scoring an insane deal at CRB. I can't wait to hear more about your trip and live vicariously through you. I've never been in May but I think it would be an awesome time to go! I'll be sending pixie dust your way for a Pandora soft opening!

Lol yes there have been a lot of changes to this trip! I'm so terrible about making changes, trying to get everything just right. *Hopefully* we are all set at this point though.

Thank you for the pixie dust! I do hope they do a soft opening but I'm also kind of hoping we'll get one last moderate crowd AK day before all the crazy crowds after the full opening.

It just can't get here soon enough!
