Disney cruise

We recently took a NCL cruise with our relatives and it was the worst trip we ever had. The staff members were rude, rules were not enforced, the boat was filled with drunk 40 something year olds and their latchkey kids, the food was average and repetitive, and everything was a money grab. It was not our cup of tea, I would hate to book a Disney Cruise and have the same experience. Are the cruises worth the money?

I've only taken five DCL cruises, they are expensive, but I have enjoyed all of them. Some see more value in other lines and I am sure there is, however, I feel I get my money's worth.

I've taken three Disney cruises. Other than there being upcharge options, I can assure you none of your other concerns would happen.

I've never encountered drunk adults on a Disney ship, even in the adults-only areas. I don't visit the bars/clubs, but people don't come out of them and stumble around the ship.

The food isn't repetitive, especially since you dine in a different restaurant each night. Heck, even the lunch buffet is different each day.

We've never once encountered a rude cast member on a Disney ship. I don't think they'd last very long.

I've never sailed on another line, so I can't compare. I know plenty of people who love others, including NCL, so I'm sure you just had a bad experience.

If you live the Disney theme, DCL is the place to be when you're at sea. The biggest difference I found between DCL and Carnival (I know, I know) was aesthetics. Every inch of a Disney ship is touched by an effort to create some magic that you can't find anywhere else. That's what I apprciate on a cruise, so that's where my money will go.

We've done both Disney and NCL. Disney was simply a wonderful experience for our family. It all depends on what you enjoy. The food, service and amenities were far superior on Disney. The lower prices, free unlimited alcohol packages and an on board casino draw a different audience to NCL.

Disney's price increases however in the last 2 to 3 years have made it prohibitive for us to even thing about booking another cruise with them anytime in the next few years. Additionally, we were on the Wonder which is one of the two smaller ships in the Disney Fleet. After being on the NCL Escape with 4,000 other passengers, I would only book on the Wonder or Magic if possible.

We've done 8, with a few 11-12 nighters in there and have never had a problem with drunks, boring food (or boredom in general). Are they worth it? That's a very individual question and dependent on a lot of variables. For us...yes, without a doubt. If you are a person who expects total bliss for their money, well, you may never get that at any price, but Disney is pretty special and about the best there is. Other cruise lines (Carnival....cough cough) can be just floating bar/casino/Vegas trips for a collection of bro's n' ho's. Disney is very different in a lot of ways, much of it due to the clientele. I think you'll love it, but it is very expensive.

We've been on DCL and HAL cruises. No comparison. DCL much more expensive but if you want better, you are gonna pay. Price difference is an individually acceptable issue or not. For us, crew, food, no casino, no drunks (that we saw), entertainment, and atmosphere made the choice simple. However, YMMV.
