Cross Training?

Alrighty, so my CS starts Aug. 14 (!!!), and the thing is, I think I'd like to extend, at least for a few months, mainly because I want my job with Disney to last a long time, and i don't really want to have to worry about an apartment quite yet. However, if I did extend, (depending on how much I like Custodial...) I may want to cross-train to something in, say, Attractions. I know you can't do that with the normal CS, but is it possible with an extention of the program? Or will I just have to suck it up and get a real apartment in order to begin my adventures on the Jungle Cruise?

When I read "Cross Training" I just pictured Michael Palin in Life of Brian "Crucifixion? Good. Out of the door. Line on the left. One cross each. Next"

Hows that for cross training ;)

With the regular CP, you are able to switch roles if you extend for another season (as with a girl i worked with last fall extended and went into lifeguarding). But with CS, i am not sure, if you still ahve your recruiter's e-mail address, I would give them an e-mail and ask.

In the end, it's all about who you know, not what you know.

When I did my college program stint at the Animal Kingdom, I was going to get stuck working at the tusker house restaraunt. ( all that way to work in a kitchen).

However, two weeks into it. I found out who I needed to talk to and Viola! I was switched over to Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Long story short, with a little work, schmoozing, and a great attitude you can change your job rather quickly. They tell you it's not possible, but it is. They just frown on it a little. The only thing is there must be an opening in the area you wish to transfer to. It's best to find someone who is not happy with their job (yes, there are quite a few) and switch out with them.

I hope this helps.

Basicly, go to every networking event, and be a good employee, and people will take care of you.

EXACTLY. Be a great employee, work together as a team with your fellow employees, and network, network, network! You'll have contacts for life, and those contacts definetly reap their benefits. ;)

It all depends on what they offer when you go. You may be able to extend until May, or until August. It all depends on what they need. Most likely, you can do either.

Whether or not you can change your role when you extend really depends on your record card, you can't have more than one reprimand if you want to change roles, you can still extend but you'll have to stay in your original line of work.

Well, I'm definately not planning on getting into ANY trouble, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I think I'll enjoy Custodial, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I randomly DID get into trouble and wouldn't be able to switch, but I'm still holding out for the Jungle Cruise, at least for the extended bit of my program, lol

That's good to hear Taryn, but still stay away from "cliffs" or trouble will find you. I'm not a trouble maker at all but somehow it seemed someone was out to get me. One time my buddy Jason and I and others were at the Magic Kingdom and he was pushing me in his wheelchair because he sprained his ankle but he felt it was a little better. He's going a little fast and a security guard stops us. (P.S. Beware of Skip, the guard!) He took our CP ID cards and called our managers on us. He ripped us a new one for what? Pushing me too fast? Some cast members take their job beyond serious. I understand his concern but man, someone peed in his Cheerios. So that put me on the edge with my managers. I'm not bragging at all but I worked harder than most at custodial and other CP took credit. I went clear out of my way to clean up a protein spill on the other side of DAK and someone else took credit for it. She didn't tell our managers it was me. Any way, I'm dragging on. I'm sure you won't get into trouble, Taryn, but again, never get near a situation that they might call you on. I guess I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
